Pajamas! On one of my first cruises I didn't get my luggage, which included my sleepwear (comfortable pair of shorts and a tee shirt) until the next morning. Ever since, I include those with my change of clothes in my bag. Great topic. Great advice - that should be followed. Thanks, Sheri!
I have never forgotten anything on a cruise but I have gotten my luggage lost on a trip to Puerto Rico. It was the worst feeling ever, even my medication was in my checked bag. So grateful to the pharmacist at Walgreens that was able to help me out because I know the name of my medication. Always always pack you medication in your carry on especially if it's the kind that keeps you ticking right.
Great tips Sheri! I like to wear a tank top with a jacket and pants, then take some shorts an flip flops in my carry on,that way when I get on the ship I just switch my shoes and pants for shorts ,remove my jack and I'm in vaca mode!
I noticed a couple putting their meds in those daily pill containers. When traveling, keep your meds in the original labeled bottles. They make take up more room, but it's safer, especially if TSA sees them in your carry-on and they may want to know what's in the container. I guess it's the nurse in me, but I don't like the idea of carrying around unlabeled pills!
Thank you. That was one question I have. I know that when you fly but I wasn't sure when cruising. My Naturopath suggested to take the original bottles too.
I've hauled my daily pill container through airports and cruise terminals for years and years. I would think if one is carrying hundreds of pills, TSA would be suspicious. But, if I'm carrying a 1- or 2-week container, that's not enough pills to assume there's smuggling going on. None of my pills are narcotic.
I used to feel the same way. Then I got older, hence more pills. I now carry them in the weekly reminder. No problem, on several cruises per year for the last 4+ years now.
I only travel with pill organizers, but also keep photos on my phone of my prescription bottle labels. Not only handy for traveling, but also for filling out those pesky medical forms at doctor offices.
Hello! Just wanted to thank you for all your videos! I love all the information! Also I like just watching to listen to your voice it’s so comforting kind of like an ASMR video 😬 I have all the info I need, but still watch your videos so I can hear you talk! Hope that doesn’t sound creepy lol! Thanks for all the info! I’m going on my second cruise in September. Royal Caribbean liberty of the seas leaving from Texas.
Great tips, along with a bathing suits, bring flip flops on board! Neither my BF or I like wearing them the entire day so we put them in our checked luggage, it prevented us from going in the hot tubs embarkation day!
Hi, I like to start packing early, and my sister gave me such a hard time and so did my husband a bit, more teasing about my crazy organization. lol But sure enough when we got to our destination for vacation, I forgot to pack my husband sandals/ flip flops. So I pointed out to both of them, no more jokes about my packing huh? lol
Yep, for the first time ever; we travelled with only backpacks on our backs (to save on airfare). Easy? Kind of. Heavy backpacks. But, carrying less was very freeing once we got there. Especially when our room keys weren't working. They were trying a new key system; I can't tell you what a circus it was (at arriving at 10 p.m. at night) trying to get into our room. This was for a weekend trip; but we did it! My family is starting to revolt against a weekend trip though, they said the next time-the effort would be more relaxing if it was at least for a two-week trip. So we'll see.
We put all of our electronics important papers in a bag. Didn’t think about our toiletries yet. We pay to go in our room right away so it wasn’t long and our other stuff was there.
Not something you pack but never travel without travel insurance. On our last cruise my son fell, on the cruise ship, and fractured his femur. We did have to pay out of pocket but got every penny back because of travel insurance.
Do you guys have a list for what to pack for a 7 day cruise? I loved your checklist for embarkation day but I can’t find a list I love for regular packing :(
We do have packing Lists for warm and cool weather cruises in our master class: use code 2019 for $5 off : cruisetipstv.thinkific.com/courses/masterclass We have 20 videos that guide you through cruising from planning to embarkation to port days with lots of checklists to help you (packing and planning). I see that you had your 12 pk of soda in your suitcase. Can this go into a checked bag, or does it have to be in our embarkation bag? First time cruiser here!
Great tips. Hubby and I are going on our first cruise in 11 days (on Carnival) and I saw in the video you had 2-12 packs of soda in 1 carry on. Can you put each persons in one?
We are going to Alaska in Holland America. If our sailing time is 4:30 pm. What time would you suggest best for us to arrive in order to avoid crowds on embarkation day? Also Can you walk all around the boat with your drink or Should you stay in one place to drink it?
You can walk around the ship with a drink usually not an issue. Arrival for us is less hectic early in the day, no later than 11:30am, but it's up to you! It gets less crowded as it gets later.
We went on the Westerdam a couple of years ago arrived about 1:00. No problem with the crowds. Holland has a smooth operation and we made it through in about a half hour.
Hey Sheri, What is the size maximum for carry on luggage for Carnival. What is the biggest luggage that I can carry on the boat myself? I was told that by other people the height doesn't matter, just depth and width, is that true and if so what is it?
The main problem is that on embarkation you have to go through scanners just like at the airport with your carry on, on to a conveyor belt. I have seen plastic size limiters that your luggage has to fit through. (Rather small) They do state that you can carry on all of your luggage though. Never tried it myself, I’ve just gone with a normal airline sized carry on and checked my larger suitcase with the porters.
Per Carnival’s FAQ page (www.carnival.com/help) here are their luggage guidelines. “Each checked suit case and carry-on suit case should not weigh more than 50 pounds, and when lying flat, bags must not exceed 16 inches high by 24 inches wide (the length of the bag is not a factor). For security screening purposes, all luggage should be unlocked. Oversized luggage and locked luggage may cause delivery delays.”
"Hubby"? You sound like a... child...when you say that. If you get my drift. Why don't you say "my husband"? It sounds more mature. After all you are an adult, not a teenager.
Daniel Fortier, I called my husband that for years and we were married for 25 years. I didn’t care if someone thought I was immature doing it or not, he loved being called My Hubby.
