What a legendary lineup of talent, to show the legacy of The Don Kelly Band in Nashville, TN over the last 40yrs. I wish I could have made it to see this live. All of these guys have been enormous influences on me as a guitar player the last 25+yrs. I think they would all agree a little better planning would have served this impromptu performance of Ghost Riders in The Sky. Clearly Brent and Redd weren't familiar with this hybrid version of this song and weren't prepared or maybe the sound on stage was off and they couldn't hear what they were doing? I don't know. I would be interested to find out ...what happened? It's just riffing in the 1 chord.. should be a piece of cake, right? I hate to see anyone "drop the ball", but It just goes to show, these guys are human after all LoL. As guitar players, we all find ourselves in situations, from time to time, where we have a bad night or don't perform as well as we know we are capable of. Maybe our amp isn't loud enough or its too loud, or our guitar pick or fingernails aren't "right" or we're playing a new song we're still getting a handle on or we're just "off" for no good reason. Whatever the reason... we've all been there. Let this be a reminder to not be so hard on yourself!! .... it can even happen to the masters. The REAL musicians are the ones that don't quit. They keep going no matter what... Some other things I noticed, that I wonder about... It would have been nice if all of the guitar players could have been there and apart of this last song. Guthrie Trapp and Porter McClister were both on the list to be there, but were missing I noticed.. wonder why? I know Luke Mcquery was there, but didn't play on this last song? Why did Brent switch from the tele he started out playing and then switch and play Luke's guitar( that he seemed to be uncomfortable playing)? Why didn't Brent bring his famous grey tele that him and Don bought when he was playing for Don in the 80's? Seems strange to play another guitar on a night like this. Maybe someone can do an interview and answer some of these questions. Thanks for posting the video! I looked all over RU-vid, Instagram, Facebook, etc... and couldn't find much on this night, which shocked me. It also shocked me that Robert's didnt have someone LIVE streaming the entire day/night on their Facebook, Instagram or RU-vid pages.. What a missed opportunity in my opinion. I'm sure more videos of it will emerge as time goes by

I love Johnny, Redd, Simo all these guys are awesome but there’s only one cat on that stage who completely changed how country guitar players approach the guitar. He is to country what Tony Rice is to Bluegrass. He completely revolutionized country guitar single handedly. From Johnny Highland, Guthrie Trapp, James Mitchell to Daniel Donato, if it weren’t for Brent you could take away 3/4 of the licks/trick in their repertoire. Brent Mason is still having influence on young guitarist all over the world. Trust me some kid in Japan is learning HotWired as I’m writing this. By the way I’m fully aware of what this represents an how special it was to Don. I’d like to imagine that all these guys had a drink an reminisced aftwards. Hope Roberts the best an hope that venue is open for another 25 years

We'll post other songs where there are only 2 or 3 guitarists onstage at a time, but this was a special moment to capture.
This makes me feel better when I’m on stage with 4 other wanking guitar players at a blues jam 😂 It’s hard to do and play your best, even when these legends are involved.
Honestly it looks like a classic thing of being thrown into something you didn’t expect, did they even get a chance to jam on the track first? the beginning progression wasn’t traditional and then they just rode that one drum beat with no backing bass or melody, so it was awkward for everyone, all of these guys can cut heads just the progression and backing band vibe was weird. Also the other guys were trying to make it jazzy/mode , when I think Brent wanted to lean more into the traditional country thing
There’s only so much you can do noodling over one chord. It always seems like a fun idea, but really, having them all up there at once just keeps any of them from being able to showcase anything. They’re all great players

@@premierguitar Yeah, I get that. I’m just used to the usual rehearsed lick trading group jam. Like I said, they are all great guitarists. Not knocking any of them. I wish I could play like them, especially Johnny Hiland. He’s a beast on guitar. 🎸👍🏻
There was no rehearsal. JD Simo literally got out of an Uber from the airport and hit the stage. I imagine it was pretty hard to get 8 of the former guitarists from Don Kelley's band to be available for this event. We're just glad we didn't miss it! Stay tuned for other performances...
Sorry but I don’t think this was a good showing of these guys talents. JD and Johnny burned it up but I am completely disappointed in the others. I’ve seen all of these guys play and they are all off the charts top musicians but not on this song. Brent looked like he had no idea what to play the first time. No, I couldn’t do better but these guys can. They can do much better. Hopefully the rest of the show was great.
