Quick tip for saving C1-C6 settings. When in Q menu, press and hold Q button for few seconds and you will see a popup menu for saving or editing custom settings

Just got the Fujifilm MHG-GFX S Metal Hand Grip for GFX100 s. It is light. It adds a little depth to help my little finger fit. The arc swiss fits my tripods. It is not cheap but a nice addition. It is easy to take off to get to the battery compartment. Not an L plate but secure and easy to put on and take off with a thumbscrew.

I think by asking for f2.8 24-70 and 70-200 style lenses for the 100S, is trying to turn the camera from a race car into a tank.

Well if you don’t have more/same total light gathering (noise) and better control of DOF with the aperture then you give away a lot to FF where you could have the advantage. I don’t want a huge system but if they could make it only marginally bigger than FF I’d be in for it.

Its amazing to me that so many camera companies add in the ability to set Custom Modes but then fail to fully follow through in the ability to save ALL The Settings under a Custom Mode ! Olympus in the Em1 Mark III fails to include Video Settings in its Custom Modes and your comments on the Fujifilm not including all the settings you would want. Possibly there are so many possible combinations of settings that it is impossible to successfully identify them all?

Very good points! All of them. Well, maybe the 2.8 zooms would be a bit big'n'heavy. I'm kind of shocked about not being able to make preview on/off part of the custom settings 😮

It's Fujifilm, not Sony; if they get enough constructive feedback, they'll change it in the firmware.

As far as faster zooms go, the GF 32-64mm f/4 is 2300$ and weighs 875g So a GF 30-88mm f/2.8 that is wider, longer as well as faster would be like 1800g and 5000$ or more, that makes an RF 28-70mm f/2 light and cheap at just 1430g and 3000$ Maybe when the system is mature enough in terms of AF, speed and video features, they can start to think about it, but it might not sell well enough.

Some really great points - mainly agree with the EV blackout time, it's my main issue with the camera, otherwise I'm finding it absolutely superb. GF Lens request would be fantastic - but I think the amount of glass required for a 24-70mm 2.8 equivalent would be insane... but if there's a company that can do it! Thanks for your videos!

Agree totally on the custom menu. For what I do I often use the self timer. Would love to set it up to one of the custom menu but I don think is possible. Love your thoughts about faster lenses, although I worry they may be weight monsters. Some of your “complaints” (all well thought out) could and should be addressed in software. Lastly I understand that they were trying to reduce cost, but a few more customizable buttons would have been very useful. And yes please keep coming with your videos about this camera. Your thought process is very clear and very useful.

With regards to the self timer I wish I could choose to have it deactivated (todays implementation) or keep its setting every time I switch on the camera!
@icogicog8287
@icogicog8287 3 года назад
That actually (I recently discovered) is doable. In the shooting setting menu (Camera icon) look for “save self timer settings “ and set it to on. The camera will remember the setting every time it goes off. Just have to remember to check if the self time is on or off when you put the camera on.

Well considered points. I have the 50S and the blackout time is a little frustrating when doing more run and gun portraiture. I had heard it had been improved with the 100S.

Totally agree with the first points, but the 24-70 and the 70-200 on this sensor will be huge and heavy. The 32-64 at f4.0 is already a huge one, I don't want to carry a f2.8 version of it. If you take a look at how much glass it already requires to be f4.0, the f2.8 would most likely require a 95mm filter and at that point it would still be a 32-64mm, not even the 32-100 you would like to see. Looking at the 250mm f4.0 GF (which I owned), 2.8 would be -as a prime lens- even bigger (250GF has 82mm Filter Size) and still it would not be getting close to your dream lens of 100-250mm (FF: 70-200mm). In my opinion the GF lenses are already heavy and big, increasing ISO (especially with the better autofocus in dark situations) will have to solve this issue.

The only way I have found to get rid of blackout EVF is by using the low-speed drive and not keeping my finger to long on the shutter button. Doing this prevents the “saving” screen and you’re ready instantly to shoot again. Is there another way?

Did you use 16bit or 14bit mode on black out test? 14bit gives much shorter black out and it is usually more than enough bit wise. Thanks for nice video!

For frame rate check the boost mode. You can decide if you want the boost to focus on focus or frame rate. I still think it can be further improved because my xt4 does it wayyyyy better than my gfx100s

This is what has stopped me from jumping to MF with Fuji is that if I don’t need the resolution (and I often don’t) the canon r5 or similar from other companies often provides better value. For example the 28-70f2 from canon is probably smaller than your equivalent f2.8 24-70mf lens. Blackouts are shorter, af is better and so is video. But I will say the Fuji MF has its appeal.
@MiaogisTeas
@MiaogisTeas 3 года назад
Then something like Olympus, or Fuji's x-series make even more sense. Why commit to overpriced and middling quality glass when you can get a better value and quality by staying away from the commodity brands?
@AbrahamLatchin
@AbrahamLatchin 3 года назад
@@MiaogisTeas it all depends on what is important to you. Currently AF speed and sensor read out is faster on smaller sensors. Where you pick your line in the sand will dictate in some way which format you choose. I just finished a shoot for a client where some shots were simply easier with my phone, so they made it into the final edit.

A 2.8 90-250 lens would be the size log. A 3.5-5 is probably more realistic.

Do you think so? With so many people adapting Canon lenses for instance I'm just thinking maybe it only has to be marginally bigger than those. Here's to hoping anyway...

@@JosephEllisPhotographer A 1.8 nifty fifty is the 63mm prime. Dustin Abbott and Ken Wheeler are the lens element experts here not me. But I’d be renting it he Canon Tele to see how it performs. If you have to crop 15% it’s probably still worth it. You could also try Sigma’s EF Mount as the image circle could be different.

What do you use 102 MP files for? I print 20 x 30 in phots from 20MP, and am entirely satisfied with the quality. And what computer handles such large files at an acceptable speed?
@MiaogisTeas
@MiaogisTeas 3 года назад
Mine does, with 16gb ram and by making use of the GPU. Of course, I don't use Adobe either. As for why, check out his previous video as to why he invested in the GFX system
@pauls9108
@pauls9108 3 года назад
I print up to 40x53 and it does make a difference. Also you can crop out a large part of your image and still have plenty of pixels to make a lovely print (not saying you should crop but sometimes you have no choice). Before buying the GFX 100 I built a computer using SSD's, 32 GB of RAM, an i9 processor, and a video card with a bunch of RAM. This handles the 102MB files with no problems. If you plan to build an i9 based computer it really needs to be water cooled.

F4 is the same as 2.8 well actually technically it’s equivalent to a 3.2 but same thing really. It’s because of the MF sensor when being compared to full frame.
@MiaogisTeas
@MiaogisTeas 3 года назад
Are you talking about t-stop or f-stop?
@AliSatchu
@AliSatchu 3 года назад
@@MiaogisTeas if we’re talking equivalent to the full frame system you can argue the T-stop but yes from what I understand the amount of light and the depth of field (although hardly a comparison when you’re on MF) is that of an equivalent lens barrel of a 2.8 and if you’re talking about strict measurements I guess 3.2. I am no expert but just trying to help those who might be confused when watching the video around why the gfx lenses have such a small aperture (f4 in this case) when compared to other zooms for wedding or portraiture in the full frame world. Love the channel and the videos :)
@pauls9108
@pauls9108 3 года назад
@@AliSatchu F stops are determined by the lens (focal length divided by aperture diameter) and have nothing to do with the camera. There are statements like above (and I'm not trying to be a as**ole, just stating the facts) which confuse the issue. There is an apparent difference in f-stop effect based on the sensor. In the case a GF 110mm, it is similar to FF 85mm. Because the focal length of the GF lens for a similar angle of view to the FF lens is longer, it appears to have a narrower DOF compared to FF lenses at the same f-stop, as if the f-stop were lower than it actually is. I suspect that the light coming through the GF lens reflects the real f-stop. I have owned all of the GFX cameras and many of the GF lenses and I have never had a issue with F4 as a maximum aperture, either getting a shallow DOF with lovely bokeh, or in gathering light. YMMV.
@AliSatchu
@AliSatchu 3 года назад
@@pauls9108 thanks for the knowledge share. I don’t really give a $#1t what f stop or t stop to be honest. I thought I was being helpful to the previous stop but clearly I was not. I love both my xt4 and my 100s. I care about the shots and really the experience which I can recommend to anyone interested in owning a Fuji system. Doesn’t matter which way you go - just get out there and capture beautiful shots. To anyone interested I am sure there’s plenty of videos that explains the difference between T stops and f stops :) Have a great day!
