5 Things I HATE About My BMW 5 Series (540i W/ M-Sports Package) 

Yes, you're right about these things. Personally, I never buy new but about a year old to avoid that 25% hit you speak of. And what you say about the BMW Packages is a really annoying truth as well, especially trying to find the right used 540i M Sport. You find M Sports but the original buyer opted out of the things you really like: after having that 360 top view camera in my loaded 535i, I won't buy a car without it. That's just an example. They pay $4K + for M Sport, then go cheap on other stuff because - as you say - BMW puts that one feature in a $2K package. The one disagreement I have is the back seat leg space: the car seems smaller and sportier than my 1990-2010 5 series (5, I think); I rather like the compactness and still have a good-sized trunk; back-seat space I would expect in a 7 Series, not the 5. First off: I'm from Germany, so I can only compare the standard-equipment for german-models. That being said, the 5 series actually is pretty good equipped as standard: Satnav, LED-headlights, alarm system, half-way digital dash, 17" alloy-wheels, bluetooth-audiostreaming, etc etc. An E-Class has much less to offer as standard (no LED, no satnav, no alarm system, just an analoge dash, 16" wheels..). And comparing it with the Japanese, it gets really interesting: A Lexus GS 450h didn't have satnav as standard. You couldn't order one alone, as well. You had to buy the Premium Pack(?) for around 18k. Then your car was loaded with crap you didn't want and / or need. So tell me more about BMW ripping you off.. ;)

Picked up my 540i M today...so far I'm loving it, but I agree on the lack of backseat legroom. For such a large car they could've given 3 more inches. My Infiniti M37 had tons of legroom.

Dude, what does buying a new car and having depreciation on it have anything to do with the 540...thats any car you buy new everyone knows this. Also, you bought a luxury sedan why would you want or expect loud exhaust on it?

The full digital dash is an Option u didn’t order. But u are right they charge too much for minor things, it could’ve been standard for the 540i. My 540i costed 92k € in germany. the idrive here is an 3k option, if you don‘t order that u get an ugly non touch display with way larger bezels. M pack was 5k lol.

What are some things on the car you recommend upgrading so it has a less chance of causing problems and is reliabilty and maintenance a issue?

I had a 2011 5-series, and I'm purchasing a 2020 540i soon. Its a love-hate relationship! I loved my 2011 because it was the smoothest vehicle I've ever driven, truly a pleasure to drive. The downside: notorious fuel-pump failure ($$$) and the absurd depreciation like you mentioned. I bought it for $22,000 USD used in 2015, and by the end of 2016 it was worth $10,000 USD. I had an even older 3-series, and at 120k miles everything started to shit the bed. Expensive repairs at such low mileage is probably why they lose value so fast?

Question : I saw your front grill is black which is normal but the border of the grill is black too ( normally it is silver ). Does it come like that with the M sport package or u colored it black later? Thanks

With G30 -must have options- M sport package, sport steering , adaptive susp, LED hexagon style head light, Large Navigation, Harman kardon sound system, Heated seats front back,( cooled seats) Rear camera at least(360cam) These are musts - then Comfort access is great feature, softclose , sun roof, And my Opinion White colour is the best With some sick black wheels H&R Springs ,, Front lip, side M sport decals, Black rear spoiler , front black kidney grill , Rear diffuser with Quad exhaust And you hAve a very very very sick car , b58 Is a Monster ❤️

Actually the back seats are fine in my opinion.It depends of the drivers seating position.I am 172cm and i thing people at the back will have a plenty of space ☺️

Insulated is great. The trunk is very narrow. My Audi A4 had way more space. The glove compartment is tiny as well in this car. But the drive makes up for everything. Very smooth drive. Worth it to wait a few years and get it for $20,000 less.

In Australia, all that stuff that you said is missing comes as standard but the cost is $100k. We don’t have basic BMW here

You can always buy the car one year behind. I'm looking right now at 2019 5 series cars with 15k miles one it. The 2020s are sitting around 5k at the lowest i found. And they all have depreciated. I know its not "new" but thats a reasonable way to avoid steep depreciation

You got your sears put way too far back. I'm 6'1 and the way I place my seat I can still sit in the back with more room you show. You mentioned your 5'10. How far back can you actually go? Are you dressing your gas pedal with your toe tips?

None of your complaints are valid. The price range and depreciation are standard among all car manufacturers. Now that the 2021 model is out with a full digital dash, professional reviewers are not liking it as much as this hybrid approach due to readability. If you want to hear your exhaust then get a 2/3/4 series. This car is built for comfort and luxury. The rear seat thing is plain ridiculous. You don't need your front seats that far back. I'm surprised at 5'10" you can even reach the pedals. You're the type of guy those head is visible from the back window of the car.

Hey man quick hack. All you have to do for the middle hump in the backseat is do the transmission mod. You just remove the whole transmission and you can get that hump gone.

My 2019 540i M package is very quiet inside and out it also has an all digital display! And dude!! All cars depreciate once you drive them off the lot! However, I have one complaint and one only...the damn speaker lights!! They make driving at night a nightmare!!😂😂

Let's not forget about the plastic internal parts used in the engine that I have heard break prematurely. Planned obsolescence I believe is what it's called. And the fact that these cars are insanely expensive to repair.

I’m actually getting this car for the back seat leg room. The f30’s are about as tight as my e90’s backseats and the 4 series gran coupe has a pretty hard slant and for taller passengers so for them it’s both legroom and headroom. Also take in mind I’m 5’7 and my girlfriend is 5’5 so the front seats wouldn’t be nearly as far back as it would for someone 5’10+

I always buy 3 years old cars from Holland, Germany or Belgium they are the best. Recently I would say the cars from Holland are the best. They are like brand new even after 100k kilometers. 3 year mark is ideal because the price depreciated a lot but you still get almost brand new car feel.

In India the 530d costs around 120k 730d is double the price after duties But in the mercedes e class you only have the long wheel base option in india and in the same price you get a lot more goodies airmatic shocks panaromic sunroof soft closing doors thts extra what you get @same price in e350cdi but because of lwb option you ll have to go for bmw if you don't have a chauffeur..

I wanted one of these and your video was helpful in making my decision. I had the same concern of the back seats not being spacious enough for a mid-size sedan. Other cars have way more room in the back.

Bro, you should try and drive the m550i, there’s no bmw i ever got and it was a 45 or less, their v8 models are always ultra fun.

Right now I’m 15 but I hope to one day own a 2020 BMW 3 series as a daily! I really like the headlights, taillights, and over all body shape of the car. One thing that I wish was different is the digital gauge cluster. I like that it’s digital, but the dial shape and design is a little strange and the whole cluster isn’t configurable enough for it to have a purpose of being digital. Audi and Mercedes have infinitely more configurations for their digital clusters making them more useful and thus taking advantage of the digital aspect to it. That being said I still prefer BMW over Mercedes and Audi! Mercedes just tacks on two large screens to the dash making it look modern but not expertly designed by any means. And unfortunately, Audi’s are just glorified Volkswagen’s at this point.

Way more pros then cons it’s like a 90% pros to 10% cons, but value of car dropping is not that big of a deal that’s every new car and when you buy a five series you don’t want to hear the outside noise your buying it to daily drive and be comfy while still have a strong car that can put down power. Other stuff I agree with you on though but overall 540i is a beautiful car

I am surprised to see that your's comes with trio climate control only, in my country, it is offered in quad climate control zone (4 zones) as standard across variants and it has its own digital control panel together with air-cond vents in B pillar for the rear passenger. M sport packages here do come with everything inclusive in just one upgrade, it just you opting in or not, it gives you 95 percent overall look of M5, carbon here carbon there, real stuff. Plus I find your meter cluster also different from us, we are fully digital (standard across variants). I think BMW in my country is pretty straightforward with the spec, where they give pretty much everything except the head-up display. The back seat for us (Asian), is pretty fine. We enjoy the space and don't have such cramp legroom tbh (as long as the front passenger doesn't take more space as they should be). in fact, I have sat on the backseat of w213 (2018 E class), a little bit cramp than this but both are exceptionally fine. Good work bro for sharing yours.

Roll down the window if you want to hear the exhaust. Ask for a bigger discount off MSRP next time, if you are so concerned about the depreciation.

Best leg space is in the Dodge Caravan. Highly recommended if you have a lot of passengers. Easy ingress and egress. Comes in handy especially if passengers are elderly or handicapped. If your're lucky it will have a handicap sticker as well so you can park up front at Walmart.

You could get a fully digital dash on this generation. It was an upgrade.

Also you say, “not more affordable but cheaper” which is the same thing. The complaint about the exhaust, you realize that most people want it to be less exhaust drone in the vehicle. You say you don’t want to pay for the M exhaust and want the car to come with it. Buddy, you want all the bells and whistles but want it at the base price. Yeah, what BMW charges for super-basic-shit disgusts me. My 2016 didn't even come with a backup camera as standard and they charge ridiculous amounts for blind spot monitoring, which has been standard stuff on low-end economy cars for years now. The thing that I noticed about the 5 series is that there's not even hardly any storage in the trunk. They don't even give you a little area under the floor to store emergency stuff now. How could they not fit that in, in a car THIS size?!?!

Every luxury brand prices the same way. Add all options and it will add an additional $10K to 20K. MB, BMW, Jaguar etc. all the same. Regarding the exhaust, you'd get tired of that growl 24/7. It's a sporty/luxury car not a super car.

If I not mistaken the 2019 5 series does have a full digital display ( my friend has one in his ), but its a added cost option . Any type of added luxury feature your going to be nickeled and dimed for it. That goes with any luxury brand especially the German ones

The centre lump in the rear is to accomodate the prop shaft. All bmw's have it. FWD cars wont have this.

hey bro, i am not sure if you remember me i am the Canadian guy who commented on your first review of this car, maybe i am late here but i just seen your video and i had to comment for things you should know being an owner of a 2019 BMW and its going to be long hope you read it all.. the things you mentioned are valid yet it is not BMW fault that you are blaming, you probably over paid for this option-less car, i know its hard to take but its a fact, nothing personal. it is the dealer/country specifications etc.. is to blame because they just order from manufacture in Germany (BMW). the first thing you hate isn't BMW fault it is the dealer. The specifications you mentioned in the first point are standard in Canada and Europe and even middle east on the 540I with way cheaper price in addition to things you didnt mention such as the adaptive headlights, trunk spoiler, back seat climate control, back doors speaker, Harman-Kardon sound system that your car do not have any of them. second point about BMW are integrating into digital dashboard. actually first digital dashboard was released back in 2011 and ever since their dash is digital. they were one of the first automobile to integrate to fully HD dashboards. Till today Mercedes-benz has a blurry pixelated dashboard but unfortunately in your case USA BMW dealership does not order in the standard 540I a fully digital yet in Canada the least 520I standard has integrated digital fully dash. third point if you want an exhaust sound do not get a 6 cylinder engine in any car for that matter get a V8. fourth point is valid, so tight, no back seat sexing. ;). fifth point valid, these cars are meant to be used for long term to depreciate them right. There's really no reason to not buy a BMW that's a few years old. Brand new this car was selling for in the mid 50s. Now, a little while later, you can get the same model with 45,000 miles on it which is nothing for just over 30.

Bruh BMW is a luxury car to say. 58k for this is nothing. Base model here is 83 000€ so over 90 000$. With M sport package its 93 000€ with the extras in my 540i it costs 140 000€ 165 000$

The resale value of the car after driving off the lot with the Japanese car comparison never made sense to me.
