If you don't like how far the gear lever travels, why don't you get a shorter lever? The closer the knob is to the fucrum point, the less travel you get. Nice vid, thumbs up.

Quite agree about horn button positioning, its really in a bad place, and yes the throttle response at 1 st 2nd gears is very very jerky and violent, specially for the new bikers. Except that, very amazing bike, threaded my Fazer 8 for MT 07 and no regrets at all!

I completely agree with ya. I bought mine in march of 2018 and have about 2500 miles on it. This gas tank is pretty small and makes long trips a hassle sometimes. A Lot of the time, when i'm shifting from 1st to 2nd, I'll shift into neutral without know noticing. Also, the jerkiness of the throttle has crazy torque causing me to launch forward when slowing, though It makes it really easy to get the front tire off the ground ( ; And yeah that rear brake is a bit unresponsive unless you put some good weight on it. I still really love this bike, there is just so much to love about it.

I have a Tracer 700 and I totally agree with the horn and rear-brake thing. The rear is great for extreme slow speeds tho, but other than that it could definitely use more bite and feedback. The horn.. well, i've never been able to hit it the moment i needed to. Let alone come to a stop and hit it whilst keeping the clutch lever in to not shoot forward. On the other hand, I've hit it multiple times without meaning to, when my turnsignal is stuck on the right and trying to pry it back loose with my thumb. Other than that, the bikes are great. As for the 14L tank, well that you have to know upon purchase. No issues with jerkyness here either, but it's a matter of keeping the right friction control with your clutch. I've been thinking to re-wire the horn with the flashing-lights button
@japsniper1980
@japsniper1980 6 лет назад
Well having owned a MT-07 for a couple of years now, I have to agree with a few of your points. The fuel tank is too small, and I'm always filling up which is a real pain. The throttle is too jerky in lower gears, and I've gotten into the habit of changing out of 1st within a second of pulling away to reduce the effect. The horn button placement is shocking. I always miss it when I've needed and it's annoying as hell. I saw someone swap the left hand switches out for a set from a YZF-125 as the horn button is in a better location. And yes, that back brake doesn't feel like it's doing anything. It just makes the brake light come on.

Def agree with everything you said. the throttle is extra dangerous on slow corners. Ive found in some really windy corners in 1st or 2nd that the jerkyness is quite unsettling. Also recently I asked a mechanic to bleed my rear brake because i thought it was polluted XD he comes back and tells me its fine and tightened the lever for me. They really are just completely feed back void. Although I will note, since hes tightened it for me the feedback is stronger

My Yamaha MT-07 (2018) is brilliant. Can't say a bad word about it to be honest. It's my first 'big bike' so I cant really compare it to other same sized bikes, but all in all I'm really glad I decided to go for it. I can't deny that I've hit the horn button a couple of times accidentally and the throttle is a tiny bit tetchy but nothing to bother me. 9/10

I haven't really noticed the throttle being too terribly jerky. It's a little twitchy in 1st, gets better in 2nd, and is totally gone by 3rd. I have an M4 exhaust, which eliminates the cat, with no tune (yet). The horn.......holy shit it's in the WORST spot on the controls. Arg. And yeah, the rear brake's not great. I'm with you man, hopefully new pads and steel braided lines will fix the issue. Even with these gripes though, that engine is wonderful. It's just so much damn fun to ride :)
@mikefrench616

Reguarding your rear brake problem I understand totally, had the same feelings about my old R1100r BMW. Tried the same fixes, wave rotor, steel brake line, new pads, still not what I expected. I found out why in an emergency stop riding 2 up. The rear wheel didn't lock up until we got to a very low speed making the whole situation more manageable. I later found out it was designed that way to be safer. My beemer weights 550 lbs. With a full tank of gas and has about a 58" wheel base. FZ -07 is 400 lbs. and 55" wheel base, if you could lock the rear wheel at will how safe would that be for a less experienced rider then yourself? ( corner freak out stab the rear brake) It has taught me to use the stronger front brake alot better, read that easy on easy off, trail brake into corners. Just a thought.

I just bought one and agree that the engine breaking in first is pretty fierce. My main gripe would be how far out the clutch lever engages, its about 90% out and the friction zone seems very tiny compared to my CBR250, 500f and a Kwaka Z800.

Not sure but did you ever ride a MT Model? I know how to engine break but that's not it. When ever you get of the gas and don't shift up and then get on the throttle hard again it's very unsmooth, "jerking" forwards.... It's in my opinion like that on all MT Models
@drew7280
@drew7280 5 лет назад
@@johannvaske7527 So at high rpms, quickly release the throttle then suddenly get back on the throttle? Yeah that should be smooth as butter, no idea why it would be "jerky"

The MT range is pretty infamous for having a twitchy throttle, they only started to improve that recently. It’s always been controllable, but pretty snatchy.
@justinliu1573
@justinliu1573 5 лет назад
on FZ-07, that twitchy throttle response is caused by high torque output, especially in lower gear, but it can be eliminated by finely tuned ECU from the factory , for example, SV650 has similar torque output but on/off throttle is still smooth, in my opinion, FZ07 is great but it doesn't achieve the gold standard in the industry.
@dadwillfixit
@dadwillfixit 5 лет назад
it's stupid fueling that's what it is. Same for the FZ06, Suzuki GSR and a lot of fuel injected bikes. You slowly get off the throttle and at it goes like this(engine brake) 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 100. Then you slowly try to get on the throttle and it goes like 0-30% instantly. You can get used to it, or get a tune.

Many also complain about the positioning of the indicator button and horn from Honda, personally i never found them awkward, the horn button is also super easy to find and the button itself , ergonomically its well designed for the thumb.

can you tell me what kind of modification we can do to fix this jerky throttle? I'm so frustrated, riding in a city is so annoying that I'm thinking about changing bike :/
@TURBOTWINKIE
@TURBOTWINKIE 5 лет назад
I flashed the ecu, and disabled most of the engine braking. It helped quite a bit with the initial jerk, but it is still present, especially in first gear. I don't think you will be able to make it 100% smooth. If thats something that really bothers you, go for a triumph street triple, way more expensive though :/
@pawel_k
@pawel_k 5 лет назад
@@TURBOTWINKIE Thanks for your answer, but sad to hear this mod doesn't solve the problem very well :( Probably I will change my bike soon, I'm thinking of this Triumph you recommended or something with 4 cylinders (Suzuki GSX-S750 or Honda CB650R), but for me it's quite a hard decision because I don't need so much power so it's hard to justify buying much more expensive bike :/ I also think about Suzuki SV650 - in your review you sad it's smoother than MT-07, but is it big difference? Does low rpm assist changes something when you filter in very narrow traffic? Unfortunately, it's hard to test this bike in Poland because local dealers don't sell SV650 too much so they don't have a test bike :/

Rear brake is a heap better with braided lines different pads and a really good bleed. For me suspension and stock tyres were the worst things, it's not even the same bike once you change those two things.
@MotoGoato
@MotoGoato 5 лет назад
Try an ECU tune to really change the character of the bike too ..... best money I've ever spent on a bike was on my MTs ECU tune. It's stronger, faster, easier to ride, smoother and the throttle response is perfection. But yeah the stock tires are pretty solid and dont give much feedback and the suspension is acceptable at best (on the 2018 model) ... next on my shopping list are Ohlins fork kit, Nitron R1 shock and a set of sticky Pirelli rubber ;)
@fknidiotutube
@fknidiotutube 5 лет назад
@@MotoGoato Are you going to get full front cartridges like Ohlins NIX 22's or just some springs? I've been wanting to do a full suspension upgrade but man, with a good rear shock and front fork cartridges alone it's a solid 1500+ bucks. Add tires and a tune and it's more than 1/3 of the bike's value... I've already got 2 grand in cosmetic upgrades so if I add all of it up it would have cost more than a new R6 haha.
@MotoGoato
@MotoGoato 5 лет назад
@@fknidiotutube Nah I rekon a cartridge kit is overkill unless you're track riding a lot (which I don't) .. I'll be going for Ohlins springs and pre-load caps, they will be enough of an improvement for me. Yeah I hear on ya on costs of modding ... but if you went out and bought a brand new R6 you'd still be spending on modding that too, it's a bloody curse mate, lol. I did exhaust, ecu tune and stage 2 DNA intake all for £750 and have spent about £500ish on crash protection, accessories and cosmetics and then the suspension upgrades will be about £750ish .. so will have spent about £2K in total on modding. Sure I could have bought a brand new stock KTM790 for the same money I will have spent on the MT in total .... but then I'd only start spending a couple of grand on the KTM getting it personalised, tuned and modded. It never ends buddy :) :)

What function? Upside down forks are only very marginally better, you'd have to be a superbike rider to feel a difference. The internals usually are way more important.
@J_CART3R
@J_CART3R 5 лет назад
@@epiphonesg007 USD fork is way more better than conventional Fork.You'll also see USD forks on upscale adventure tourers. In offroad riding, those USD forks deal with big hits better, so if you're Lemmy-sized, or you're riding a Lemmy-sized adventure bike, or you just love the big, high jumps, they should offer you some rigidity that a standard setup cannot. The drawback (other than paying for technology you might not use) is that the flipped nature of things makes service a bit trickier. For starters, most USD forks do not have drains in them. (Some conventional ones don’t, either, but that's an issue of the manufacturer not making things easy on the end user.) For those of you who change fluid often, you know how much easier those drain screws make that job! Thus, to change out fluid is a considerably more laborious task on a USD fork. Another issue comes up when or if your fork seal goes kerflooey. On a regular fork, it’s going to leak a little, but it’s not really an immediate danger. On a USD fork, however, the seal sits over the brakes, and the oil is above the seal, so gravity and suspension pumping are both working to push fluid out. Once it gets out, it is perilously close to brake pads and your front tire, so a busted fork seal is a bit more serious on bikes with inverted forks.
@epiphonesg007

@@J_CART3R Lemmy doesnt know what he is talking about. Mt09 has upside down forks but a older sportsbike with regular forks has better suspension.

@timsmotorcyclediary
@timsmotorcyclediary 6 лет назад
Those are legitimate gripes. However, the longer you ride assuming you go up to super sports, you’ll discover it’s not a big deal and comes with the territory. Actually, the MT-07 is better in some ways. For example, better mileage with the smaller fuel tank compared to an R6 or R1. The spongy rear brake isn’t an issue with super sports because you’ll do 95% of braking with your front brake.
@Unfunny_Username_389
@Unfunny_Username_389 6 лет назад
The worst of those issues to me is the fuelling. I strongly dislike a lack of smoothness in relation to throttle movements. I appreciate there are certain modifications available, such as different throttle tube fitments etc. - but I believe quite strongly that this should be right from the factory and not something an owner needs to address.
