I love how it feels on longer journeys. You can do 600-800 kms in a row without having to stop and without feeling tired. Also the worse the weather conditions, the more you trust it. It really feels like a tank. I thought I liked Mercedes before jumping into V70s. Third V70 in my use now. What a car!
O yer, I love my V70 for all the reasons luke listed, I've slept in it at festivals and I'm 6'4" ,I've hat a cross trainer in it and a 3 seater sofa. 178,000 miles on mine still no rust, and it sounds sweet as a nut, starts first time every time.
Love the v70, great colour which you have done a fantastic job detailing. I drive a 2007 vw passat Estate diesel with 170bhp & 182k on clock that pulls like a train too!
Got an 06 exactly the same (although it's an auto) with 105k on the clock. Absolutely love the drive and use it all the time on long journeys around the UK. Hopefully will be keeping it for as long as I can as it's one of the best and most practical cars I've ever owned. Bullet proof for life.
Nice loading capacity. I like how the front seat folds and that you can remove the rear seats so you get a flat surface. Another thing that reduces boot capacity from the A4 B7 Avant is the "hidden compartment" on the boot floor. I like it to keep small things a bit more organised, but it takes loading capacity permanently. They should have made it like in the Volvo, much more useful in my opinion. You can always get a boot organiser to keep little objects organised. 👍
Beautiful car Luke, I've got a similar 03 plate. Love it to bits but yours looks so much better. I'd love to spray my grille like yours but need a video on how to take the darn thing off. Best wishes for the New Year
The grille isn't difficult to remove. Easier if you take off the front end. That seems hard but isn't. Two 12mm bolts behind the rubbing strips (prise them off with plastic trim remover) then a few 10mm bolts below and outside of headlights. Push pin clips along top, and loosen (don't remove) plastic screws rear of indicators next to wheel arch. Old piece of carpet under the front to avoid scratching the paintwork.
Great vid. I've had a '02 V70 three months now and I just love it so much. It's in super nic and with the petrol engine is as quiet as a mouse. I have a roadster in the garage, but to be honest, my V70 just makes me feel, well, more of a (responsible) man!
I love my V70 P3 2011. It was cheap to buy, cheap to run and it is amazing to drive and comfortable! I haven’t given it a big load to swallow though but I’m sure it will take it all without getting any on it’s chin or in it’s eyes 🤣
I'm now on my second V70. First was a 2.4 petrol, manual box. Now I live in USA and manual transmissions are like rocking horse shit to find. I now have a 2.5 turbo, auto box. I think the 2.4 was a nicer car to drive even with 60 or so fewer ponies under the bonnet. Neither are the best cars I've ever driven...BUT, they are the best cars I've owned. The best car driven was a 2.0 Saab 9000CD Carlsson. The V70 is just as comfortable, on a long drive, better than anything I've ever sat in. Load space, c'mon! Better than almost anything on four wheels. Quiet. IF you do your own work they're not that expensive to keep on the road, if you don't, can be a money pit. Looks? Dark colours suit, great shape. Smooth as silk to drive, pulls like a train. Did I say comfortable?
Lovely car and very well specced too. I recently bought a 718k Volvo S80 and I’m giving it a new lease of life. After owning many German, british and French cars, I wonder why I never owned a Swedish before, although I drove loads of them years ago.
You have the diesel, I've got the gas and for real the sound of an inline 5 at full throttle is glorious no matter the fuel! Plus the B5244S got intake VVT and when it kicks in it's like all those Honda memes.
Vauxhall did a colour a bit like this called black sapphire. On dull days in was black but on a sunny day it showed up a bit purple. I really liked that colour
Love my 2010 SE Lux AWD D5. Hate the useless roof rails that create drag and whistling noise in sidewinds. Love how it will just accelerate out from a side-road with no drama or wheelspin.
@1:49 The Mercedes E-Class W210 wagon begs to differ because it is hard to beat in terms of cargo space. It even comes with air suspension at the rear.😊
Luke, I think you bring down the average age of a volvo owner. The v70 is the perfect family car. I added the third row of seats to haul around my gaggle of kids. Pros- it's easy to work on, I'm averaging 39 miles per gallon, and I smile every time I see it. Cons - the headlights are horrible, the headlights are horrible, and the headlights are horrible. Thanks for the tip about the front seat. Didn't know that one.
Dave, you can up grade the headlights mine a Y reg, up rated the lamps which was an improvement and then found an easy to install HID kit on the Internet, just plug and play.
Number 6... Longevity... I have a S plate 1999 p1 V70... Hasn't failed an MOT test yet - 165K miles which in Volvo terms is still in need of running in :) - Granted I've had a few things that needed replacing, like the ignition coil (original one from when new so can't complain) failed last week, but mechanically these cars are built to last...
Sitting in this car is like being sat on a big plush leather sofa. Thats the only way I can describe it. So, you're effectively sat on a sofa, whilst commanding this big heavy and fairly wide Volvo estate. And these cars generally don't roll in corners either (unless you go crazy), so they are very effortless to drive at speed which is something you dont expect when you first get behind the wheel. Also I agree regards the tailgating....theres something about these cars which generally detract people from tailgating you. I have a V70 and used to own an S60 and it was the same in the S60 as well. Almost never got tailgated.
In the 90s people used to avoid volvo drivers like the plague because they used to be driven by people who just don't care about them, but now since volvo is a bit of a big brand and they make such nice cars its less people with zero depth perception driving them and more sensible drivers
If you think this is long ,you want to see my peogeout 505 8 seater gti its a hotel on wheels and so comfy to sleep in .8 SEAT ALL FORWARD NOT BACKWARDS ALL FRONT FACING AND WILL DO 130 MPH IN GERMANY ALL NIGHT .IVE HAD IT 6 YEARS .
I had a 98 XC70. Marine Blue with parchment t leather interior.. Great colour. I am in Australia. People don't respect Volvo drivers here. It's a Holden Commodore or ford Falcon country. Volvo drivers are though conservative , bad drivers. Bikers rear Volvo for sideswiping them in the blind zone. anyway may XC was a great car until a drunk driver rear ended me at 40mph. I drove away his Holden was totaled. But my on board computers were damaged and the car never performed well after that accident.
Been watching your videos for some time back from the original Astra videos. Just find the content release tad slow, I appreciate covid etc.. but this video regarding the Volvo has already kinda been done I feel.
