Bought a Garmin Edge 130 about a year ago and use on virtually every ride, so thought I would share the reasons why I just love this bike computer.

Another great video 👍. I have a Garmin Edge Explore, still at the budget end of the bike computer spectrum, and not too dissimilar to the 130, but comes with maps loaded to it and a colour display, so you can actually see the Bridleways / routes to follow in real time. Also doesn't have any of the stuff I don't need, like power meters, cadence etc. Simple to use, but a bit more ££ than the 130, but I absolutely love it and wouldn't be without it.

Totally agree, must be nice having a colour screen but wouldn’t have thought that’s a deal breaker.

I have never used Garmin but I can see the benefits. I use old O.S Maps. I also use the sun & wind to navigate. Never fails and never get lost.

And I hope you hunt for food while on rides too 😉. I’m also a sucker for a map & compass ride, be meaning to do a video around that.

I think you should. It would teach the modern techno world a thing or two. But they would get completely lost 😂

Good overview , I currently use mobile phones to track navigate and record ride data , take two phones with me for bikepacking , as second phone acts as a backup incase one breaks🙂. However using your super expensive phone that has your whole life on it not ideal stuck on the handlebars🤣, though for general riding in me pocket 🙂 . I can't quite justify cost of expensive sat nav , but this one looks ok if I can get it for a good price 🙂👍

That’s a good summary, for me one of the main reasons I got the Garmin is I didn’t want my expensive phone on my bars in all weathers. Losing or damaging the Garmin would be easier to take.

Hi hello! I am thinking in buying a garmin, my phone keep running out of battery when I go for long rides. From my understanding, I can add my own routes. Can I add it from the Google maps? another question is if it send you to the bicycle paths. Do I need a computer to add my routes? I am Doing some research and it’s all still a bit new. Thank you

I believe you can add routes from Google maps, though I've never done it. I use Garmin's own website and it's pretty easy, you can either plot or auto generate routes. I'm not sure if it sends you to cycle paths when they are next to a road but suspect not. You don't need a computer to add routes, you can do it all on a phone. Sorry I can't be more help, good luck.

I've purchased the Garmin 130 but it keeps losing GPS connection specifically if I'm cycling along a route with over hanging trees . Do you ever get the same problem

I can honestly say that’s never happened to me (yet!)
