I would definitely ad what works for you may not work for me. Two tank’s exactly the same may run completely different. Oh don’t jump on the newest thing. Let other’s work it out first 😂 good to see new sponsors for you. Looking forward to see what you put out in the future. You are one of the O.G.s of reefing and I personally have learned a ton from you!!!

So there have been a few comments like this one and I want to address them.....Personally, I don't count each trace element as something that I dose to my tanks. For each of my two systems I have a trace element cocktail that has all the traces I dose in one container and that is dosed via one peristaltic dosing pump. So if you want to bust my chops for dosing a bunch of traces then go ahead, but my intent was to get viewers to post constructive comments about their experiences dosing stuff to their tanks.

Patience is probably one of the most important aspects to apply to this hobby! I'm digging the new sponsors. I've been wanting to try some GHL products because their build quality looks great but I their operating software has me holding back.

Yeah, the OS is disappointing. It's why I sold mine for Apex. I really wish they'd pay to have the OS modernized because it would be the aquarium controller system we all want.

Personally, I like to use the most reliable and well built equipment that is out there and for me that has been GHL. Yes, there is a learning curve with the app but once I had it figured out it has been smooth sailing.

I hope you’ll look at this as a constructive conversation to stimulate some critical thought rather than attack because it isn’t meant to be. Regarding chemiclean: Have you personally used it before and seen adverse effects? I’ve used it and had no adverse effects with it. The cyano goes away and the tank just continues. From what I’ve seen you speak negatively of it pretty frequently, but I’ve never heard you mention using it yourself. I’ve heard a lot of other people share experiences like mine with it too, many your talk show guests. If you’ve had a bad experience with it, then that’s fine, share it so people can make their own opinions. From my point of view, it seems you’ve surmised that chemiclean is a detrimental product but I’m not sure on what grounds. That doesn’t seem fair to the product or fair to the people listening to your advice that may be put off from using it based on an unfounded fear of “damaging the microbiome.” I’m curious to hear your thoughts? Is it possible you’ve taken a stance against “chemicals” based on others recommendations without actual firsthand experience?
@ReefBum
@ReefBum 4 месяца назад
I have used Chemi Clean myself and it cleared out the cyano but then other algae issues developed. And the cyano eventually returned since the source of the problem was not resolved. I know other hobbyists who have done pre/post Aquabiomics tests with Chemi Clean and those results showed that the microbiome changed. But that is a small sample. My personal belief is that antibiotics should be used as a last resort. Again, this is all based on my experience reefing....I know others use chemicals and claim no ill effects but for me I think my sustained success is related to laying off chemical to solve problems.
@telegraham
@telegraham 4 месяца назад
I can be another sample of one. I'm a ChemiClean user (my last treatment was 21 Jan), and I very much agree with Keith. There can be a negative impact, that negative impact generally results in a pH drop, and a resulting decrease of alk consumption. In my case, pH and consumption recovered, but given tank differences, the negative impact could result in coral mortality. One no adverse effects doesn't translate to it being safe for all. BTW, the cyano has returned, and I'll be going in a different direction this time around.
@TrevorHiller
@TrevorHiller 4 месяца назад
@@telegraham Absolutely agree that N=1 is crap. There are other “experienced” reefers on RU-vid who also have used it and reported no major problems. Very few (no?) disaster stories. I do agree it probably affects the tank in multiple ways that we may not even understand. I don’t recall my pH swinging, but my skimmer definitely went crazy and my nitrate and phosphate levels slightly increased due to no skimmer export for about a week until my skimming finally returned to normal. I personally don’t care what people use, chemiclean, fluconazole, carbon dosing, ozone, etc. You do you. I do like people to share the specific examples of why they have a stance on things so those watching can make better informed decisions regarding their own tanks, particularly in video sharing tank methodology/advice. That’s all! I’d heard Keith steer people away from chemiclean several times over but never heard him talk about his actual experience with it. I’m personally a little skeptical of the all the fears of changing the microbiome. For years we haven’t known what’s in the tank from a bacteria standpoint, but now that we have a test for it, it’s jumped to the front of the line.
@ReefBum
@ReefBum 4 месяца назад
@@TrevorHiller My point is that in my 30+ years of reef keeping my corals do much better over the long haul versus when I don't use chemicals vs times when I have used chemicals. I am sharing my experience and I appreciate @telegraham sharing his. As I mentioned in the video, it would be great to hear the experience of others directly from them vs hearsay. Too bad others just want to post snarky, unproductive comments...not u @TrevorHiller.

I hope this doesn't mean Aperture is doing less to support our hobby but then again I think they have unfairly drowned out better or equally great products
@JoeKoors
@JoeKoors 4 месяца назад
@@sunnygoold9449 name one example of this? What does 'drowning out' mean? and what is 'fair'? and how do you determine those products are 'better or equal'? and what obligation do they have to no matter what the terms stocking that companies product in their warehouse?That statement makes no sense without context.

Siphon as much out as you can and remove detritus. If you have high nutrients then you will want to get those down.
