Having a clean home to go into with my nanny family is very important. However, we’re all humans and slip ups will happen every now and then. While the kiddos are napping and I’ve already had my lunch and rest, I have no problem helping out. I know you mention we don’t have to clean the garage but I really don’t mind organizing the shoe racks in the garage if there really isn’t anything else to do. They show their appreciation in more ways then I can count so the relationship I have with them is amazing.

I am sorry you experienced this. Many families value what nannies do and respect them. Finding a good family can be difficult for sure.

I have been working as a nanny for 10 years, have had great parents and also really horrible ones. The one thing that seems to work across all families to keep the boundaries and respect is the respect and boundaries you create fpr yourself. When you give ypur job value, others will tell you how they feel about it, so it will be on us nannies, sadly, to choose to stay or not with employers who don't value our important job. Dont let anyone make you feel this job is not important, remember that most parents can't do whay we do ❤

Hi Michelle I’ve been watching your videos for a while. I think I had said I was in the childcare field for 20yrs. I was both in center based work or a private nanny. I have always loved the nanning better. Once during an interview the family wanted me to come on Sat and pull weeds for free. I knew that was a big red flag 🚩 & told them no & pretty much the interview ended. I even had a family that wasn’t mad at me when I told him they were running low on diapers.

My family got a puppy once and it was the WORST thing about my day. This was during the summer and the teenager was home so she was put in charge of the dogs. I do not mind feeding, giving them water, and letting them out. I just don't do dog poop and cleaning that up. Nor do I do dog throw up. I heard somewhere that people who are around kids all the time will deal with other kids' functions (poop, pee, throw up, and maybe even blood) but they won't clean up dog poop and throw up. And vise versa. Dog owners will clean up other dogs poop and stuff but won't change a diaper or potty train.

It’s surprising to me that asking my nanny to walk my dogs is a don’t. I’m expecting my first little one and am looking into the different childcare options. I’m definitely leaning towards hiring a nanny, but it’s more intuitive to me that I would ask a nanny (during the interview) if she could walk my dogs during the day than asking her to throw birthday parties. While I think it’s should be discussed at the beginning that dog walking is a need that my family has, and I would only hire a nanny that’s comfortable with that, it’s ludicrous to me that it’s possibly a don’t to ask my nanny to walk the dogs. That would mean hiring a dog walker as well when there’s someone available to do it. I guess that’s why contracts and being upfront about what your needs are is important.
@TheNannySolution
@TheNannySolution 23 дня назад
Yes, there are absolutely nannies who walk dogs. But that is discussed at the interview stage. It is when it is an expectation and never discussed and then added as a job duty later that it becomes a problem.
@mimi1578tube

I think some of these expectations are way out of line. There’s no way I as a nanny can spend my time planning, birthday parties, planning activities, replenishing supplies? And what is the little 15 month old child that I’m taking care of doing while I’m planning all of these things and running errands? I’m already prepping and bringing food for the little girl. I take care of when I’m at home because there’s no time to take care of it when I’m at the house. I rock her through her one hour nap because she will not sleep in the crib. I literally get no break while I am there. Every situation is different. It bothers me that you’re putting these expectations out there. It’s not always possible to do all of these things and take good care of a child. I tidy the playroom every day, and every day when I get there in the morning, it’s a complete disaster again. I do all of her laundry, and always have a big pile of clothes to wash on Mondays. I keep her room clean, I vacuum every day, I keep all of her dishes washed up. But that’s where I draw the line I don’t clean their dishes, I don’t wash their clothes, I don’t pick up after them when they leave stuff in the playroom, kitchen or her bedroom. You don’t want to set a precedent that you don’t want to keep doing. For instance, if I start doing all of the dishes and cleaning their disgusting kitchen, that will be the new expectation.

It really depends on the age of the children. If you are caring for school age children then you do have extra time to plan parties and tidy while the children are at school. It all depends on the job.

of course not! You should only be asked to provide care for children and thier areas and things. That's it! Anything else and the family with have to engotiate with you and you can say no.

If it is not a child related task, it should not expected for the nanny to do. Did you agree to this task then you accepted the position?

Could you do a video or give some advice about neighbors using you to pick up and watch their kids without compensation? I'm referring to neighbors who live next door to where you nanny. What makes it difficult is my charge plays with these children multiple times a week. How do you draw the line between play dates and getting asked to watch the neighbor kids for a few hours or pick them up from school because their parents are busy.
@TheNannySolution
@TheNannySolution 4 месяца назад
That is a difficult one. Start with a discussion with the parents you work with. Let them know the issue and see if there is a way you can work out a solution. Let the parents know your rate is for their children. If the neighbour children need picking up from school and staying with you when the parents are busy there should be an extra charge.

I am a nanny just started is it mandatory that I get paid for training ? because the training has been three hours to five hours so far. I also have to do the husbands and wife’s dirty laundry and it’s uncomfortable they also like things folded a particularly and when they left to a concert they were supposed to show me how to do things in there room but they left. I couldn’t even hang up the clothes because I was too short, and I had no Waze of knowing how to find something to assist me. I also was told to walk the the dog at the last minute before I leave my job it was my parent’s anniversary so I wanted to go home early . I also Do not own a dog I didn’t even know if she meant around the block or just to let him out in the backyard regardless, she never told me until last minute. I was also uncomfortable when the dryer stop for one second and it seems the husband implied that I was standing around when the dryer literally just finished before I could unload the next load into the dryer.I also don’t like That she asked me to watch the cleaning ladies make the beds. First she made uncomfortable because I don’t think she let them know that I was going to watch them. I also like to take pictures, so I was trying to tell them but I was also unaware that they didn’t speak English, and so when I was trying to see them make the beds some of the times they were mopping.it was really uncomfortable and they weren’t even prepared the nannies couldn’t even find the sheets and I had to quickly start washing the sheets as soon as I came in it was just terrible.l the wife braggged that she put them in but she put in two different loads that weren’t even the sheets so I had to wait for them to be done. I told her husband there was a language barrier because there was, but he dismissed it. I even apologized for seeming racist but the truth is that was politically correct .she asks me to ask the Grandma to help but she’s like 86 can barely move my heart hurts when I see her have to do the laundry which she can barely do. What are the errors in this situation please help me. And I have to organize the garage with the shoes and everything and take out the trash every night.
