I just found you and I’m so happy! In the benefits video you mentioned The Nanny Care Hub and Lora. I met her at Nannypalooza and have been at an INA conference and at iNNTD with her. It’s awesome you know some of the leaders in our industry. I was late to the game and had no idea there were nanny conferences and training days just for Nannies. I had been working for a family for 9 years. The children were 12 and 9 at the time and I had a hiccup with the tween 12 year old. Working as a preschool teacher and then, at that point I had been a Nanny for 23 years. Most of my work had been with infants through preschool/elementary age. When the hiccup happened I did some research and started taking classes, attending conferences became an INA member (7 years now), NCS certificate, and overall continued education. THE MORE WE LEARN, THE MORE WE KNOW. So I just want to thank you! I’m actually in between jobs and will be doing a trial for a Nanny-Share this weekend 5/19. Your interview videos are a great reminder of things not say and the things you should highlight and for me to know that I’ve got this cause I’m prepared. Thank you! 😊

Can we talk about parents who ghost us too? Also can you give advice on parents who keep asking you to work weekends even when you tell them that you work Monday through Sunday and weekend evenings are the only time you have for yourself? A family asks me every Friday after I am about to leave their house if I can come Saturday because they are busy and need help but I need my free time too. It makes me feel guilty and bad for saying no.
@TheNannySolution

I completely agree. Many parents ghost during the hiring process and it is incredibly disrespectful to the nanny. On both sides communication is key.

Hello Addie, you need to leave. There are many things / rules which families break. Remeber, you are NOT going to change their behaviour, they are what they are but what you CAN change is a family. It has happened to me few times, I know what you are talking about. I have been doing this job more than 10 years so I know. I wish you good luck! :-)

I cannot agree more. Although, it’s not just an old school thing, it should be an any age decent thing to do! 😊 Not only it is important to respect other people time (hence contacting them to cancel, postpone, etc) but also to apologise (if you can’t admit you are in the wrong, how are you teaching children as a nanny to do so?). Basically, as the saying goes: “Do onto others as you want other do onto you”.

I have an interview for a family assistant / part time executive assistant for the dads company . I have no previous professional experience with nannying or family assistant stuff but I have strong administrative qualities from my previous and current experience. I also come from a large family and know that I am on the ball and great at handling things and getting things done . A little over 100 people applied for this one position so I was surprised when they reached out to me yesterday for an interview. I applied over 2 weeks ago ! I bet they had a lot not show up or respond

I think she didn't want waste your time with excuses. And you were not clear enough about wanting an apology. And your wording was harsh so it makes sense she will respond with harshness. It's fire with fire.

Yeah I realize that Annie Stahl could have a point there. She could have been intimidated with your harsh words, just forgive for the first incident as long as it’s not repeated.

If I was that nanny, I would have first responded with, "Oh, now I remember what happened. I apologize for the no show and for wasting your time. A personal emergency came up and I had forgotten to cancel the interview. I am so sorry for the inconvenience. I have since found a way to ensure this won't happen again." -I recently had a nanny interview where I totally spaced on the time for our meeting. I thought the Web Meeting was at 1:30 but it was at 1. The moment I realized this (1:25), I e-mailed the family and offered to meet right away or to reschedule. The family was so gracious and willing to meet with me at that time. Unfortunately, I didn't see that e-mail until 1:35 (unreliable notification system -technical difficulties) and I thought it was over for me. The family e-mailed me back. I STILL didn't see the notification until around 1:42. I just hopped on the Web Meeting and they STILL met with me even though I had to run off at 2:15 for something else. The family ended up offering me the job a week later and while I decided not to accept the job for other reasons, this experience showed me just how much I am allowed to be human and make mistakes. When I declined the offer, I told them I would be happy to occasionally babysit for them and they happily accepted that offer. This happened only a week or two ago so I don't know if they will ever take me up on the offer but I am glad this all worked out smoothly and again, *heavy sigh* I am allowed to mess up. It is okay.
@treefrog1018
@treefrog1018 Год назад
I wonder if their willingness to meet with me had a lot to do with what happened a week before our interview. A week before our scheduled meeting, I had received an odd DM from them (via nanny-finding website) and was a bit uneasy about it. I took the steps I needed to ensure these people are legit and they happily obliged. Turns out, the nanny-finding website sometimes sends automated messages. I think this showed them that I was 1- serious about the job and 2- I care about my safety online over a job offer which (at least I would suspect) would show that I would care about their own child's general safety.

I'm trying to decide if I should give a nanny a chance who has taken a long time (5-14 days) to respond to correspondences. This makes me feel it's appropriate to say, "I'm looking for someone communicative. Is there a reason it's taking you so long to respond?" Also I can't believe you asked the nanny if she could remember why she was a "no show" to an interview, but she can't remember or apologize until it's suggested she's not dependable. Suddenly, she is defensive and has a reason? Hmm.
@TheNannySolution

If a nanny is taking up to two weeks to respond, they are showing you who they are. If this is not ok with you do not proceed.

This is the 21st century when etiquette has really gone out of window. I am shocked by their lack of decorum, also by lack of formality in email writing. If nannies don't turn up for interviews, I suppose that is a good thing: they are revealing their true colours and faux pas. If they can abuse second and third chances, goodness knows what they would be with children in their care. After all, children are a heavy-weight responsibility which they may take too lightly.

Yes, it is true or nannies and parents. Often parents don't show up for interviews or completely ghost the nanny after the interview and never follow up.

🤦‍♀️ Michelle. You make the tiniest situations look awful just to create content. Have a heart. Be a human. Or are you just looking for that placement payout? Not all agencies are like this. If you’re a nanny, do you your research. Check out some other channels. A good agency would never blast a potential nanny’s vulnerable and personal business on RU-vid.
@TheNannySolution
@TheNannySolution 2 года назад
Just to be clear we make ZERO money from RU-vid nor do we receive placement payouts from this channel. This channel is purely to help nannies become more professional, get better jobs and make more money and to help families understand what it takes to be a good employer. The content I create is based on personal experience.

Actually this is a really good video and if it was me, I would love to see a whole explanation of why I got rejected, as no names were really disclosed. What she did can and will close her doors in many places, as it shows lack of respect with the person's time and lack of commitment. Good and clear communication is key in any job and some people need to learn that, otherwise they will lose opportunities without even knowing where they're messing up.
