Thank you for being such a scientific and illustrative teacher, I appreciate it so much! 0:10 Compass Technique 0:44 - Keep most of your weight on your metatarses 2:19 - Bend your standing knee 2:57 - Torsion 3:50 - Traction
This is exactly what I've been teaching for years....and is the best video I've seen! At last, someone whom knows what they're doing. All it takes now is practice, practice and practice.
I'm working on pivoting stuff in Bal(boa)-Swing as a lead. As someone who doesn't do much turning, this was one of the first helpful videos I have found. Thanks!
I'm working on this pivot in my Argentine tango lessons, now. And, this information is very helpful. Regarding a comment below, please do not be overly concerned about your English, as it is very understandable & clear. So, thanks very much for sharing. It is greatly appreciated. Please continue to help us with your expertise!
justo lo que necesitaba..mas acerca de abrir la punta de los pies en v, tal vez yo los trataria de cerrar mas cuando ya lo tenga muy practicado e incorporado! muy buen 'paso a paso'' y razonado! gracias
Great video! After 4 years of study, I am getting pretty good at some of the "hard" stuff, but the basic pivot kills me every time. I will definitely be using these tips!
Fantastic and very useful, please continue to help us to understand the steps .By the way it was now I completely understood about pivot and how to lower the hip for balance thank you Vanessa Gauch. One question please:can we practice or dance with Latin shoes the tango or it is harm for our knees.
Vanessa I've been a competitive ballroom and Latin American dancer and, as you would expect, I've been to many and the best teachers my country has. Your teaching in your series of short videos is not just on point and crisp but inspirational and the best I've yet experienced. Thank you for the generosity of sharing your deep wisdom and excellence - which I'm certain has taken countless hours of awareness. I now teach Mindfulness and wellbeing and the presence I feel in watching your videos is immense. Bless you.
The pivot stops when upper and lower body get back on the same direction: cancel the disassociation (from your waist) when you reach at your direction, it should do the job :)
All the technique points here seem correct to me, it is a very useful video. However you should correct the English, which is wrong in several places. The correct words are: axis, metatarsal, metatarsals, and a couple more I can't remember. Also only the upper part of the spine vertabrae can rotate, so the advice to try to rotate the lower and middle back is wrong and potentially dangerous.
