Since we are on the topic of sim racing and tuning. Where do you start? (camber/toe, suspension/damper, anti-roll bar?) and what is a good baseline for how a car should handle? what exactly is "neutral" if people naturally adapt their driving method to suit the cars handling characteristics? Thanks

First place to start is a trial run / test to see how the car drives. Then start adjusting one thing at a time. I tend to play alot with Toe/camber and springs/damper adjusterments . Toe/camber to get better corner grip and suspension to keep the car more planted on the ground.

This setup is still cheaper than us paying our actual costs to race the cars we own at our facility. We want to help others be better drivers/racers and if Sim can help we want to find the best way to teach you how to use it

@Teamoneilrally

The game itself could be considered an 8 in terms of how the game mimics the physics of a vehicle, and a 6 compared to real life in car, we'll subtract a few points for lack of motion. ~Jamie

@@Teamoneilrally Why set it to a much lower number than real life cars, in which engineers have carefully chosen a number that fits the car's stability and lateral grip? Would it not ruin one's knowledge of real life driving in terms of steering input and 'reinforce bad habits' as said in this very video? How about the inability to even execute and practice multiple-turn steering movements in the case of severe oversteer?
@jendabekCZ
@jendabekCZ Год назад
Just make sure you are using the correct SW platform, so the car handling is as close to the real thing as possible = Richard Burns Rally. The HW used is by far less important.
@Teamoneilrally

That makes sense. The next step is to look outside of console games and it seems Burns is the standard on PC. More videos to come. Thanks for commenting - Chris

JendabeckCZ has a very strong reason to always and everywhere defend RBR' real physiscs : he makes money from that game. So nothing ever will come close to rallying like RBR in his opinion, not even real life.

Dirt... Pff! Everything except Richard Burns Rallye is arcade. You want real budget tips? Buy the cheapest steering wheel, open it up and throw away the springs. No force feedback, no resistance. It's nothing like a real wheel anyway. The feedback is too strong unless maybe if you had the latest model. With this setup and a good FOV exactly simulating the windshield I was driving at traffic speed and slowly pushing the limit. Monitor as close as possible. Headphones. This was the closest to reality and quite frankly rallye I ever got. (and most of us will ever get anyway 🙂)
@DarkIzo
@DarkIzo Год назад
disagree about the ffb point, little ffb is better than no ffb at all imo also there are budget priced "proper" ffb wheels, where one should start wheels are not a thing where you start small and work your way up, its more binary than that: either you have a "proper" ffb wheel or you dont, if you dont then youre most likely not gonna continue sim racing because of the frustration
@trollmcclure1884
@trollmcclure1884 Год назад
@@DarkIzo What brand and type? I was thinking about MOMO but it was still way over $100 for used. Then I tried a cheap one and of course I was fighting the motor inside. With zero resistance I'm able to make split second movements just like in a car. The feedback is nothing like real wheel anyway. Yes, it tells you something about the curve but it's more like cheating than simulation. In a real car the wheel doesnt push into your hand in the opposite direction like that. If you lose traction you lose traction. There's no feed-back from real steering wheel. (maybe unless you dont have power steering). Yes, it wants to center itself all the time but that's all. So IMO it's less of a simulator than with no feedback. You just have to imagine the forces. And you have other feedbacks like squeeking of the tires and overall movement of the car
@DarkIzo
@DarkIzo Год назад
@@trollmcclure1884 i understand where youre coming from. generally speaking afaik the golden standard for a budget wheel stil is a used t300. afterwards build a LUT and set all the software sliders for ffb according to internet/preference. thats a solid start
@trollmcclure1884
@trollmcclure1884 Год назад
@@DarkIzo Yeah. This may work but I'd rather buy a juicer or a set of tires on my car than throw $300-$400 into gaming. My computer was half that price 🙂 It proves my point. People dont need that. They can have immersive simulator experience while spending 50 bucks. FFB is only needed for competition to drive on the edge.

Richard burns rally is okay. Its not perfect by any means. It is absolutely NOT in a different class. It is a similar setup to other games like dirt (minus the center axis turning) and wrc but with its parameters tuned to be more realistic. Again: RBR IS NOT MORE OF A SIMULATOR THAN WRC. IT DOES NOT SIMULATE ANYTHING EXTRA. IT IS JUST PARAMETERS. Do i have to remind you that this guy is an actual rally driver? You have to understand that with every single simulator, you are always making tradeoffs for performance.

Would be interesting to see some collaboration from the simrally community, rather than going at this in the dark on your own. www.youtube.com/@JanneLaahanen is one example for what passionate simrally can look like. DR2 might get you better viewership, but RBR is after the heart of actual rally.
