Love this video. My wife and I are building a home (they just broke ground). I will have a woodworking workshop and have been trying to plan electrical needs. GREAT VIDEO. THANK YOU.
Very timely video for me. I am moving from a 900.sq ft shop to 1/2 of a 2 car garage (downsizing). I have everything laid out in the sequence of use of machines but totally forgot about my charging station. My walls are concrete block so it looks like it's conduit for me ! I appreciate your videos.
When I watch this I hear what sounds like music dubbed over the voices. Why is music added to the audio track? Is this for effect? Not sure I understand the purpose of the background music? Wireless lapel microphones ($20 on amazon) might help if the music is coming from the neighbor's house. Thanks for the video. Keep up the helpful and informative content.
No conduit or romex runs in My shop I run SOOW 6 /3 and 6/4 heavy durty cable on the floor and use trip covers on the cables to remove trip hazards all cables connect to a central 110/v and 220v outlets location. This keeps my graage generic and allows me to move my tools and rearrange my shop if needed. Still some great advice and tips ! Thank you for sharing.
Whatever works man, I was going for a more permanent solution in case I ever wanted to sell the place (I never will.) I want to die in this shop, but maybe in like 60 years...
Home inspectors DO NOT check your permits. Best case they see something off, it goes in the inspection report and it's up to the buyer to force the seller to fix it. You can research the code and get a general idea of how you need to do each job, and then doing electrical DIY is 100% doable. The idea that you can't sell a house if you didn't pull permits is BS.
When I wired my dad's workshop, the first and most important thing I did was to put the light on a different circuit. A table saw is very dangerous, a table saw in the dark is terror. Also on the work bench I put two gang boxes everywhere. Left side was one circuit and right side was another. This kind of ties into the discussion at 10 minutes. Also at his charging station I ran two circuits so he can charge everything without a concern for tripping a breaker. He added a window A/C, that was on its own circuit and the dust collection on its own circuit. When we were installing it, he thought it was too much until I explained it and later he told me how nice it was to have the extra circuits so he wouldn't worry about tripping breakers and being able to have a shop light on the project bench while using a saw.
I said screw old work boxes and fishing wire and ran all conduit and mc cable in my shop. The main reason is because its easier than fishing wire and its easier to modify.
Funny you post this today. I have a few post out in Facebook groups currently. Bringing out an electrician to help in my new shop build. Currently only have 1 outlet in the shop area, but plenty of space and capacity on the panel.
Get your lay out figured out, make sure you get enough lighting put in too. Lighting really makes a shop. Fortunately mine already had can lighting installed.
@@mauriceryton Agreed, I'm just putting off the project until I can afford it. Also in my area all garage circuits have to be AFCI protected, so the breakers are going to be expensive too.
I released a couple from the new shop but I need to make some more projects soon. Right now I am working on getting my shop into ship shape. Hopefully those videos are entertaining.
