There are many different ways in which people experience "Bipolar Mania." Some of us enjoy it, while others find it to be a very destructive force in not only their lives but those around them.
The way we experience mania is actually the primary factor in diagnosing someone with a specific type of Bipolar Disorder. Countless people end up being misdiagnosed because they fail to see the mania as a problem or they don't mention it to their doctor. If someone who has Bipolar Disorder is misdiagnosed with general depression, it's common for them to be prescribed a single antidepressant - without a complimentary "mood stabilizer" medication. Treating ONLY the depression can add ROCKET FUEL to the mania, so it's extremely important to not overlook this symptom.
When certain types of mania get out of control, it can lead to risky behaviors like reckless spending, sexual promiscuity, an increase in substance abuse, extreme agitation, a complete lack of clarity or grandiose beliefs, and so much more. Also, as many of us know, a manic episode can result in an equally intense period of severe depression (or a "crash") after the "party is over" so-to-speak.
In this latest video from Polar Warriors, we're going to discuss 5 helpful tips for managing mania while cultivating a better sense of self-awareness!
As always, a very warm welcome to Polar Warriors and I hope this video helps you on your journey. If you have any questions about Bipolar Disorder and would like to contact me directly, there is a link at the top of my videos to join our Community on Patreon. That moment I realize when my legs are rythmatically bouncing while sitting, and shaking everything in the room is a sign my MANIC-SELF is finally waking up again. I love it because this is when my creativity, production and organization skills kick into high gear! The downfall is when my manic-self goes back into chill mode, I am then stuck with a bunch of projects in action and I cannot relate to - or find interest in any of them. NOTE TO SELF - When manic do not make too many commitments. great vid!

Wow! Same here! I thought my bouncing leg was my ADHD. It is always there, not just when I head into hypomania. My husband says, “You’re not sleeping?” Trying not to look worried, bless his heart. Worrying is directly correlated with exhaustion. Of course the antidote to worrying isn't worrying about how to get rid of worry- it's trusting the universe, yourself/ lessons and wisdom acquired... And I think knowing it's okay to not have all the answers, will make stupid mistakes. Life isn't a speedrun, it's a journey to be enjoyed more than fretted

Insight beyond your actual words: “So when I first started making this video, I was going to talk about 10 different tips for mania, but this topic is so in-depth I didn’t want to rush information and make it too much to digest in just one time...” One aspect of mania is making our “lists” too long - too many projects or one project so big we cannot achieve it or too many big projects altogether. One frustration in working with others is their expectations that we can keep up the pace we set when we are manic/hypomanic - making the mania and depressions worse. On the flip-side of that, are the people who feel we are unreliable because of past lists not completed. Your cutting the list shorter, whether for length or too much information, demonstrated a restraint we all need to learn. The awareness of knowing (and implementing) when to cut back is key in managing our mania, and by default our lives. Peace comes with balance, balance comes with discipline.

Thank god I’m lucky; because I gamble instead of shop! I win more often than not, so it's not necessarily destructive to my life overall. I only play scratch offs so I don't know how I would react in a casino LOL. The closest one is a couple hours away and that's probably a good thing for me. Also... It’s easier to throw away a ticket instead of sneaking past my husband carrying a new designer purse (which has only happened a couple of times) 😂😂❤️

I have an agreement with my partner of 18years, he keeps hold of my visa card & I have a limited amount of cash in my purse when I'm on a high. I find supermarket shopping very hard & spend far more then I need to, so my partner goes inside with me to help me. When not on a high I make a list of what I need & stick to it as much as possible & am able to shop by myself. Manic spending can be thrilling & gives you such a buzz yet you end up wasting so much money on unnecessary things. I count myself very lucky to have such a good & understanding partner & I've never been in debt. Christmas time was always difficult for me, overspending on gifts for the world & his dog !!! Yet for the past 3years I've cut down on the amount of gifts & money I spend. Also a very stressful time build up to Christmas for many reasons... take care all 🍪pocket.

I stopped drinking a year ago. I can't say I feel any less manic but I don't go out until 5am then neglect my family and sleep all day any more. I know I'm feeling manic when I watch videos like this. A couple of months ago I convinced myself that I was in the top 3 percent of the population for intelligence and there was no point trying to talk to people because they couldn't comprehend what I was saying haha. I walked out of my job then argued with anyone who questioned my decision. I don't regret that but I could have handled it better! I've been manic for ages this time but it beats depression. I would describe it as having limitless self belief and energy with one profound, life changing thought after another. At first anyway. That's quite enjoyable in a way but it usually means I haven't noticed. Those profound thoughts keep coming but instead of hearing them one by one it's like having a hundred thoughts all at the same time and I can't hear any of them.

I’m watching this because I just realized that I’m in a manic state. I have been denying it for many years and saying I just have anxiety. Today I found myself talking fast, mind spinning, body vibrating so much energy that I can’t slow down. I came out of a depression about 6 weeks ago started acupuncture eating healthy exercise and things have been so good but now I’m spinning. I’m trying to be proactive and do something different so I don’t get so down when I crash, but that made me realize how up I am. I don’t want to ruin my life anymore and I don’t want to run myself so ragged. I’m trying to implement healthier coping skills. I need to break this cycle or at the least lesson the damage. Thank you for your video 🙏🏻

I stopped taking my meds immediately because I felt better and I also didn't meet my psychiatrist again. But a month later, I got so depressed, almost dropped out of college when I already finished all classes and only had to finish my thesis. Last week I went to psychiatrist again, and told myself that I'd take my meds everyday even though I might feel better. And I'll also take therapy sessions frequently. Fortunately I finished my thesis and will graduate in August. It's also because of the support from my thesis advisor who has clinical depression, and her sister also has bipolar disorder. So she understood what I was going through.

Love this video! Such good advice! It’s so hard for me to manage even small things like remembering to take my meds, make doctor appointments or take notes for a simple to do list while in mania because when I crash into depression it’s literally painful to even move out of bed for days and weeks at a time it’s so horrible! It’s so good to know I’m not alone

I came to this video at 4 am, I don’t have bipolar but my brother does and he just woke my mom and I up. He is having a manic episode and I was really scared for him. He thought it was the end of the world, so I had to calm him down. My mom and I were crying because he really needs to go back to see his psychologist. Thanks for making this video.

@wileymeep

I'm always embarrassed by the sudden interest in a hobby or subject matter. Even when they don't cost a thing. I get super hyped, motormouth, and I usually keep reiterating that "I know I've said this before but it's _different_ this time." Perhaps it lasts a couple of days, weeks or - if I'm 'lucky' - a couple of months. But, eventually, it subsides and in the back of my mind, I've always known it would. I've chalked it up to me not being disciplined enough to follow through. It's been going on for so long and I still don't fully believe that it's actually not that simple. Frustrates the hell out of me. Also, so incredibly exhausting. And, again, embarrassing as I've shared my enthusiasm with someone. Saying it out loud always makes it worse. Geez, even now I read this as being such a bad and obvious excuse. Wouldn't say that if someone said it to me but when I say it.

I’ve just realized I’m Hypomanic recently and this profoundly helped me educate myself in how to better use this fleeting energy. Just scheduled some appointments and got CPR certified while I’m riding the wave! Sincerely, thank you so much for putting this content out there! I was wondering if there were any positive sides to Hypomania? Such as exiting relationships that no longer serve you or making progress in enacting changes in your life you may not have had enough confidence to make before? Thank you again! -Polar warrior type 1, Lauren, Virginia.

What am I supposed to do if my bipolar partner refuses to go to therapy (says he will) and continues to hurt me emotionally during his cycles? I am trying to be patient, even when he is in a rage I try to speak very softly and remind him that he may be cycling and I send him your videos.......it’s like he doesn’t realize that he is being a monster until he comes out of an episode. I try walk away when he is going through these episodes before the damage is done but sometimes that is impossible. I’m not sure what to do other than leave the relationship......any advice? Where is the line between being a supportive and understanding partner to a bipolar person and just accepting abuse? I know he feels lost in his brain and I don’t want to leave him alone but I also must preserve myself right? How do I get him to go to therapy?

I feel completely awful. I’m on meds, they don’t seem to be working anymore. I think they make me worse I can’t even begin to explain how badly this has effected me. But idk where I am. Manic sad hopeless. Then doing all these positive things! Then I’m crying because of what’s taking place and accept the fact that I can’t control everything. I try so hard. It’s extremely hard to even sit and think and rationalize with people a lot of excuses blame game inpatient. There’s a lot that plays into my situation. I so desperately wish there was an easier way to change this behavior we just do whatever and think later wow I was a jerk idk why I was arguing. It really has been taking a toll on relationships and my everyday life. It’s very hard to stop and think ok let’s be reasonable because we just jump. I need to find a way to change this it’s really not ok. I’m lost

My husband is a shockingly good liar. He has bot told his doctor thst he stopped the mood stabalizer. He is now only on welbutrin which is slowly taking him from hypomania into mania. I have no support with this and he doesn't care what we think he is like... He likes how he feels too much to matter, so he gets angry every time i try to talk to him about it. He looks and acts furious but claims that he isnt angry at all. Says he feels nithing but happy at his success. Fast forward 5 weeks and now he is fully coldhearted, mean in his tone and the way he looks at us. He denies it all. All of it. I cant ask for help because he lies to his family so they hate me and i am so isolated that my whole existence is at home with kids (im disabled). He refuses to let me go to the doctor with him. I feel stuck. He agreed during depression that we would be a team and he would trust what i saw if mania starts again, but that didnt happen. He has now turned me into his enemy. I am the only one taking care of him... But i am the one he steps on when manic. He refuses to believe he is manic. Claims he is back to normal. This is not normal. He is a monster to me. So i have withdrawn. Admits he never ever thinks about me. He again stopped saying i love you and all affection ended. He gets super angry if i stand in the way of his daily spending. I have no idea what else to do.

With Bipolar Mania is common to have a feeling of irritability, almost as if you're on the edge? Or even to feel like you want to cry but at the same time everything is impulsive and in the moment?? Edit: I'm only curious because it's been suspected for months of having bipolar disorder and I feel like I'm going through a manic episode currently 😅❤

My boyfriend has bipolar, and he will be fine with me one minute but the next he will switch, I’d have “acted different” or “done something” that will trigger him. We haven’t spoke properly in two days, his blanking me, reading my messages and not replying. I’m so stuck on what to do, I know people say give them space but I’m so consistent with asking if his okay and that I’m sorry.. I need help!😩
