I have 2 trees from seed. One is in a kratky water pot and is thriving. The other is in soil; healthy but not as big. I knew most of these tips, but I was unaware I needed 5 Gallon worth of roots!! I was about to switch my nutrients solution as he is turning 3 years old, but I will hold back now knowing he needs more roots. Helpful video !

A long time ago I watched your video on your coffee plant and became convinced I would never be able to keep mine alive without volcanic ash, LOL. I planted it behind my shed under a big oak tree and it turns out that's all it wanted. it's 3 years old, over 6 ft tall right now and thriving, zone 9b/10

It is not correct to describe coffee as such a short tree. I have seen wild coffee in Ethiopia (unmanaged) that easily grows above 3 metres. I pruned my tree when it reached 2.5 metres (in London, UK); it flowered without much problem and I still have trees planted from the first batch. Finally, 'rainforest' is not the same as 'tropical forests' -and while there are differences across rainforests, in tropical rainforests near the equator, there are no seasonal differences (dry and wet), it rains pretty much daily! Please check you fully understand what you claim to know!

All of what you say isn’t always the case! I have a coffee plant that is only in a 2-3 gallon pot(about 2.5 feet tall)and it is flowering for the first time I just noticed today! Also, the flowers are forming on new growth that just came over the winter while it’s been in the house. I live in Minnesota, so it lives on the deck in the summer and in a south facing window in the winter. Also, if I didn’t keep the soil moist at all times, it would be dead, or have lost most of its leaves from stress! Don’t let your coffee plants dry out, they do not like that!

Is your coffee plant still alive and if so how is it doing? I'm in mn and am interested in growing one too
@elle-iza
@elle-iza 4 года назад
I was curious, so I started to water my coffee plants differently (both of them living next to each other in a south-facing window, same soil, same pots) a month ago. The one I watered less and let dry a bit in between watering didn't grow at all, the bigger leaves started to turn yellow and drop. The one I watered more frequently (no water in the overpot, but consistent watering every other day) is almost double the size and deep, lush green. So I'm back to frequent watering, and hope that the plant recovers.

Que Mango most full sized trees yield 12-30oz of roast beans. That’s 1/3 to half the size of a full tree.. so I’d guess it yields 8oz of beans by weight after roasting. It looks like a 3-5 year old tree. It takes arabica trees 8 years or so to reach a full 16oz yield.

It’s been in its container for a while and I’m not sure how to tell when the nutrients have been leached. Since they’re acidic, I was wondering if I can use spent coffee grounds to keep it happy. I could use some help with my 9ish month old coffee plant. It's probably 2 foot tall at this point. But I have a few concerns... The plant is losing its lower leaves, so about 50% of the plant is trunk at this point, with lots of outward growth at the top. 1) Did it not get enough light? 2) Why are the bottom leaves turning yellow and dropping? 3) How often should I be feeding it? The new leaves look healthy, but I'm constantly losing lower leafs, which is concerning... Plant has been grown indoors always, soil is a mix of a variety of things including crushed lava rock.

maybe you put too much, if i remember well, it is a spoon per year in the pot, try adding tea leaves, washed then mixed egg shells and dry then mixed banana peels ;) a spoon of each just around the stem

I have a few coffee plants indoors. The oldest one is just producing its first buds. It is not growing them on bare branches like you say in this video. It is forming them right where the leaf joins the branch and mostly on the green growth of branches just starting to bark up. I didn’t even think about the pot size of my plant. It must be at least five gallons if it is producing flower buds. I am watering it every one to two weeks. The only fertilizing I have done is some lava rocks and occasional miracle grow last summer and some biochar at the beginning of this year. I use some fertilizer spikes before that too and they seemed to work. I must be doing something right and your guide helps. Thanks.

Nicholas Hoffnagle I agree with you! I came looking for videos about coffee plant flowering because mine is! But I also dispute some of his statements on here. My plant is small, and only in about a 3 gallon pot, yet it IS flowering. And, the flowers are forming on new growth that has just grown over the winter in my house. I live in Minnesota, so it lives outside on the deck in the summer, then comes in and sits in a south facing window for the winter.

increase the light amount and try transplanting it. Sometimes all it needs is a little environmental change to flower.
