5 ton military dump truck build installing bed and spreading stone!  

That was a great video on this dump truck. When I first saw it my first thought was Matt on diesel Creek. That would be a perfect truck for him. Paint it black and yellow m. I could see the diesel creek on the doors. It would be just right up his alley. Great job guys.

I thought the bed made that vehicle, until I saw the new tires. She purdy Clint!!! Dirt Perfect is going to be jealous.

I think I would have put a couple of insulators under the dump body safety bars , I am sure they will bouncing up and down on the frame.

Perfect spreading

Nice truck and well designed installation.

A tip for the mudflaps. Use a full width strap to clamp the mudflap. This makes it easy to loosen the bolts and slide the mudflap back in when they get rippped off. Using the mudflap washers like you have means that you have 5 bites taken out of the mudflap leaving nothing to clamp onto.

Beautiful job of spreading the gravel, not too many drivers can do that well. Now Mike can see what his truck is going to look like when finished. LOL

That is a really good looking dump truck . The main thing that really set it off was when you all changed the wheels and bigger tires . You and the truck did a great job of spreading the gravel . That looks like a really well made dump bed and it sets perfect on the truck, you all did a great job on the build . My dad hauled and spread thousands of tons of different sizes of gravel on roads. And at one time he hauled a lot of blacktop, also and at one time he hauled a lot of slag out of a steel mill (and that stuff was hot, hotter than blacktop) and dumped it on roads. Years ago, he worked on a government job for a while with his truck hauling gravel and dumping them on a big acreage of a construction site and dumped the gravel on a lot of the site 8 feet thick . I was in an engineer battalion back in the 80's almost 90 and drove trucks like these and the 5 ton dump. These were go anywhere haul anything and get the job done types of trucks. How you set this one up is awesome. What we had were basic bare minimum setups. The only thing is that I would caution folks is those split rim tires. Always use a safety chain around the tire and rim when you go to air it up. Accidents happen and nobody wants to see one of those rings come flying off. I know that safety has been improved since the last time I changed one of these but you can never be too careful. I saw the price for one of these trucks that was given to another commenter and I'm surprised it was that low. I was expecting the price to be mid 50's to mid 60's. Good job.

Here in aus we use a brake booster instead of an air cylinder so if you park up with a load your tailgate won’t pop.

Nice build! I took a 5 ton 5th wheel 900 series an put an 800 series dump bed on it. Love the truck but now wish I had the longer dump bed were I could carry more. Would like to know see how yall would fix one with a winch on the front an run the hydraulics for each. I'm sure my problem is a little different because of the 800 series bed. Beautiful truck an looks like it works flawlessly!

Maybe make a pan for the dump body if a person was to dump asphalt into a machine it would dump right into the Harper and not miss and make a mess also put hook and eyes on the mud flaps so when in use they wouldn’t get torn off. Just a thought!
