@@timrettig8457 i dont get why people consider that bulls a superteam. I'm a Rodman fan. He's one of my favorite players ever. I have a collection of his jerseys. He is a hall of famer. But he was not exactly a guy known to change a franchise. He had just com from Spurs where he did not have such an impact and he wasn't exactly sought after. In fact he was traded for Will Perdue. Not exactly an NBA shaking move. And the numbers support that. He was more hustle than technique. Thats why I loved him playing, but that hardly makes a super team. The Warriors also bother me. Their big 3 were drafted and had a 73 win season before adding Durant. That not a super team in the meaning I get for that expression. That is a very well managed drafting. Not hired for millions in order to stack with talent. Anyway, all this is subjective, I suppose.

Wilt's 48 inch vert always sounded insane to me, but a 40 inch vert is still pretty damn insane for a 7'1 player and he was a true 7'1 (measured without shoes). I was always impressed by how easily Wilt launched himself into the air. A lot of big men really have to exert themselves to get airborne, but Wilt did it so effortlessly.

My take: being clutch means NOT having a worse percentage, when shots start to matter. Clutch performers aren't getting better - they just stay as good as they are. Others don't. Funny enough, there is a stat that claims that Lebron only hit 20% (!) of shots with 5 seconds or less on the clock, to tie or win a game, during his career... he’s great and ice cold, up until this very last possession... and if you've watched him over the last seasons, you know that he almost never takes the last-possession-shots, anymore...

In respect to the "Clutch" player thing: The calculations were based on the last 12 minutes of a game, but many examples come to mind, that really don't impact the game that much in the 4th quarter overall, but for instance in the last 2-3 minutes they make one or two super crucial plays or make the game winning shot or score in rue of taking the lead and the momentum. Basing it on 12 minutes tells the average and not really the whole story, I think. Also, I believe there is a thing like certain players being more prone to get hot in crucial moments. If you look at the averages over one or more seasons, that phenomenon might be statistically invisible, if a player has one of those games now and then, but also has a number of games in which he performs subpar in important minutes or even the whole game.
@rasmusbang6118
@rasmusbang6118 Год назад
yeah the clutch part he kinda butchered. The last couple of possessions are where you can see the best player being forced into a bad shot, on a defense that uses everything to stop you. This is also where people really get to play with nerves, that can seriously affect your ability.

@DJKHOTTA 7 месяцев назад
The last 12 minutes is too much time, that's a whole quarter if the score is less than 6 points apart, what if the team was losing by 8 points and get back at the end? Weren't those first 2 or 3 points made in clutch time too? We know that it's arbitrary, but 12 minutes is too much.

Just copy and pasting one of the comments I said earlier when someone said he doesn't have a 45 inch vert. Think about how they were placing him at around a 40 inch vert by just watching him play sports, he is not even jumping as high as he can, he has to also focus on playing the game, we have no idea how tired he already is(he plays every minute), whether or not if he is sore, and he is not just solely doing a jump at full capacity. We don't have enough information to even prove that he doesn't really have a 48 inch vert. And just based off of him getting a 40 while just looking at a random jump from his games I wouldn't doubt he at least has a 45 inch vert. And maybe he really did have a 48 inch vert at some point, we didn't even get to really see his prime.

@@smoceany9478 Well that is a big factor, you cant compare otherwise, it is biologically impossible, what I was trying to do is put this myth into a perspective, 2 inches more than highest one doesnt sound that much, especially since it is Wilt and since he was special it is plausible for some, who dont take into consideraiton how height influences jumping negatively after a certain limit. Hell 8 inches more than highest center sounds plaussible as well for some, because you dont have perspective and reference of how big of a difference that is, 8 inches can be relatively big or small number. But when oyu say almost a quarter more than the next most capable person in that regard, we aint comparing him to average person in that category, but the next best jumping center, that is how you put it in perspective and make it obvious how it is impossible that it was truth. because 8 inches doesnt tell you much, what if the next best guy had 100 inch vertical, then 8 inches would be 8% and while still impressive margin, it would be possible. But almost a 25% difference in any category would have to mean he had some genetic or in other way biological anomaly, its not possible for a normal natural human beign to have that advantage over the next best one Edit: this was my original train of thought, but since it is a youtube comment seciton I wanted to make it concise as possible so I wrote it the original way I did

@younglove3362
@younglove3362 3 года назад
@@taskmaster6129 actually, no he's not. He says Jordan may be the most clutch player in that regard. I disagree with him. Jordan is overrated. No one ever points out Jordan's flaws such as when he used to be a selfish player before Phil Jackson came along or how Pip6made clutch plays to keep them in the game resulting in Jordan being able to take the final shot and clench the win. There's times when the Bulls bench stepped up while Jordan struggled. But when it comes to everyone else they got excuses for why they're not clutch. "Ray Allen and Kyrie irving saved Lebron's career." "Kobe took too many shots and they don't count the misses." "Jerry West only has 1 out of 9 champions." As far as I'm concerned, Reggie Miller is more clutch than Jordan. He doesn't have as much skill and versatility as most shooting guards but his clutch gene compensates for all that an is a primary reason that he was a superstar as opposed to an All Star. And that's just one example of many.

Also, I always thought the concept of a super team arrived when superstar players started seeking out teams with other superstars; in order to increase their chances of winning championships. If a team's management acquires multiple superstar players by offering them good contracts, they might have a stacked team; but that's just business as usual. So my assumption was always that the formation of super teams was player driven. But maybe that sort of thing was happening in the 60s, 70s and 80s too, but wasn't as well known....

And maybe he really did have a 48 inch vert at some point, we didn't even get to really see his prime

Look Magazine visited Wilt Chamberlain while he was a student at Kansas university. They measured his standing reach at 9 feet 6, and his height after jumping at 13 feet 3 inches. That's a confirmed 45 inch vertical leap. You can find copies of this article online. In the demonstration where they show Wilt Chamberlain jumping at a track meet in Brussels, and also blocking a shot as a player in Kansas, I would dispute that the person who did the measurements is drawing the spot where Chamberlain jumped from accurately. In the Kansas photo, Chamberlain did not take off at the point on the floor as indicated in the chart. He took off at a point just below and to the left of the spot indicated on the chart which would substantially increase the measurement of his vertical leap and place it into the 40s, similar to the Look Magazine article. In addition, the Brussels photo clearly shows Chamberlain jumping more than half of his own 85 inch height. Again, that would place chamberlains vertical leap in the mid-40s. Maybe not a 48-inch vertical leap, but there is documentation that he had a vertical leap somewhere in the low to mid 40s, not below 30s as indicated in this video. It's also worth noting that less than 1% of the games that Wilt Chamberlain played are captured on video. The ones that were captured are mostly later in his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, when he was 60 lb heavier, so obviously that would have impacted his vertical leap substantially in a negative way. No one is claiming that Chamberlain had a vertical leap higher than 40 in during his Lakers days. Those claims are made regarding his time as a college student at Kansas when he was also high jumping nearly six foot seven going over the bar feet first.

When you define clutch as a statistic with a debatable definition then break it down into numbers, you're absolutely correct. However- when you factor in what exactly is on the line, not only is the "clutch" moment shots far lower but the stakes are way higher. Factually speaking- there's no true way to measure clutch because how pressured people feel in certain situations is different for everybody.

By expanding the timeframe for the definition of clutch to the LAST 12 MINUTES, instead of, say, the last 5 or even 3 minutes, you've convoluted what the term means, and it shows in your presentation of players, esp in the compare and contrast. I took stats in college too, it's fun. It's easy to manipulate data to swing one way or another--adjust parameters :p

No, the entire 4th quarter is definitely clutch. If you're sealing away the game in the final quarter to secure your team the win, you came up clutch. If you're always chucking buzzer beaters because your games always come down to the wire, maybe it wouldve been more clutch to have balled out 8 minutes earlier.

That clutch vs non clutch analysis is so weak I don't even want to get to the details. You cant define clutch time as the last 12 mins to start with, and you also cant just look at the %... It doesn't tell the full story... Come on you are much better than that

@orange juice That's the reason why it was a weak argument, there's simply no data to fully back it up. Sure, it could be proof, but to disprove clutch? No. Numbers can't show what's going on a player's or team's mind while trying to win a playoff game with a big lead to overcome and with time winding down.

Everything depends on what we called Superteam ! If it's a matter of Prime All Star joining others/HOF and/or rising all stars then : 1)It's false that there were no superteam after the 1998 Bulls : -In 1998-1999 Glenn Rice, who was an All Star during the 3 season before (All Star Game MVP in 1997) joined the Lakers and they won the title 1 year after. At this time, we saw the lakers as a superteam. In 1998, 4 Layers were selected to the All Star Game : O'Neal, Bryant, Jones, Van Exel. It was also seen as a superteam during the regular season, and until they were beaten by the Jazz. -In 1999-2000, the Portland Trailblazers stacked former all star(Pippen, Schrempf, S. Smith), experienced good players (Sabonis, Stoudamire) and rising stars (Rasheed Wallace, Jermaine O'Neal, Bonzi Wells). The team was so good that they lost in WCF (which at this time was considered as the true NBA final), pushing the Lakers Superteam to Game 7. The next season, they traded Jermaine O'Neal for more experienced Dale Davis, and acquired Shawn Kemp and Rod Strickland, but it didn't worked as well. -In 1996-97, Barkley joined Olajuwon and Drexler at the Rockets. Even they were old and had past their prime, they made the WCF and lose to the Jazz 4-2. Not bad. 2) In Late 80' early 90', there were : -The Pistons : Thomas, Dumars were HOF, Laimbeer and Rodman had All Star selection too, Vinnie Johnson was 2nd in 6th man of the year vote in 1987. They acquired former all star and league top scorer Dantley in 1986, then traded to a more "team first" former All Star Aguirre. -1988-89 CAVS with Nance, Price, Daugherty, Harper. 1989-91 : RUN TMC ! -1992-1993 SUNS : Barkley joined a team composed of K.Johnson (1990&91 All Star), Dan Majerle (92 All Star), Tom Chambers (All Star 89, 90, 91). They also recruited Dany Ainge, multiple champion with the Celtics, NBA finalist with Trailblazers the previous year. 3) Back in the time : -1971 Bucks : Oscar Robertson joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor), rising star Bob Dandridge, and McGlocklin (All Star 2 year before). -1977 76ers : ABA Champion&MVP Julius Erving joined former ABA Champion&MVP Georges McGinnis, All Star Doug Collins, and rising talent World B. Free. The team made the NBA finals. -1978 Bullets : Dandridge (73,75,76 All Star) joined Unseld, Hayes, , Chenier (74,75, 77 All Star). -1980 : Celtics had HOF on the paper : Bird, Cowens, Archibald, Maravich. Lost ECF vs 76ers. There are certainly many other examples...
