What a coincidence,Balut and Durian. My last trip to Vietnam I tried to eat only Vietnamese food. I had experience with Balut in the Philippines in 1973 so I didn't even try it. One night we were Rach Gia and before eating dinner my girl friend wanted a sweet drink. So she ordered a drink that looked like a milk shake but it tasted like sour spoiled milk. It was a few days later when we where in island that I saw Durian fruit cut up and recognized the smell. Next time I will hold my nose and try tasting it again. Laugh and be happy.

I forgot to talk about flan. My girlfriend in Florida introduced me to flan. She made it for me. She’s Puerto Rican. I thought it was a Spanish dessert. I also became a big fan of key lime pie which is the official pie for the state of Florida. For lime juice I use the brand called Nellie and Joe’s. The recipe for key lime pie is on the back of the bottle. I use slightly less than half cup and I use Oreo cookie crust instead of graham cracker. I’d like to try it with a crust made from nuts like pistachio and almonds. Have a great day!

Absolutely love this vblog. Love your reaction to the king of fruits 'Durian'. It's my favourite fruit and I can't wait to eat them when I return home to Malaysia in 4 weeks time after nearly 3 years. I am sitting here with a big smile on my face, as I just saw this video in my recommendations - and last week had tried Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm for the first time myself. As I learn cooking Vietnamese for about 2 years now, fish sauce is familiar to me. Friends then brought me a bottle of Mắm Tôm so I can try it myself... "tastes like heaven" as they say - absolutely true. As for the "stinks like ..." part, it was not as bad as I thought. Not sure about what my neighbors thought, though...

Bun Cha, had this for lunch almost every day for 3.5 years while working at the US Embassy. About $1.50 and they gave me extra veggies and noodles when I amost finished them. I miss this the most. The 4th platter is also very delicious and filling. Depending on what city you're in, the noodles are sometimes served as cubes. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

first time i got sick from food in VN is when an interpreter broke into a vit lon and he ate it not i (1968)!! never forgot. in 2019 my son had his first balut on Thanh Da Island, SaiGon.

Your mom and you are like total opposite of each other. But I love that you guys are really closed and you both respect each other despite being so different. I love this video, your mom seems real sweet! You forgot Bún Mắm 😜 I made the mistake of cooking it inside so I had to open all of the windows and doors to air out the house. I’m sure my neighbors thought something died here 😂

So glad I found your channel. My wife is from Hue and I've been there 6 or 7 times in the last 15 years, Love the food except balut, I've never had the guts to try it. My wife and her whole family really enjoy it so I will try 1 bite next month while we are there. I have requested to eat bun cha as well since seeing it in one of your other videos. Pork blood sounds disgusting but I actually like in many dishes there. Maybe I will try Durian if my in-laws eat it. Jack fruit and chom chom are 2 of my most favorites fruits I have ever eaten. On a side note: Vietnamese people have been some of the nicest and most pleasant people to be around. If I can ever actually learn the language I would spend even more time there. I just know some essentials; foods beer hello, thank you and goodbye.I'm learning nice to meet you but it's difficult to learn how to say depending on who you are saying it to.

In philippine - > the duck egg is called Balut, and they can mix with pork, viengar and stir together and eat it and its crunchy too. Tried once and defintely not trying duck egg again :P

So cute the both of you ! Yeah, I have tried all the above food. Nothing terrifying about them. It takes determination though but I find I could handle them well. You haven;t eat the best durian yet until you've tasted the Malaysian varieties.

nice introduction for f many traditional vietnamese foods. i used to like the duct egg thing when i was young but since had not tried for many years i eventually couldn’t take it anymore 😂. i actually guessed it correctly about the durian and i think that s a given one as it s most well known and controversial fruit for most southeast asians and chinese😀😀😀

I tried Balut ...The Filipino version but not really my cup of tea... Has a smell that remind me of chinese herbal soup. But I actually do enjoy certain Vietnamese cuisine like Pho, Bun Cha, Vietnamese spring rolls & Banh Mi ( Who doesn't ) ..Durians!!!.. Malaysians love it!!! .. One of my friends used to order a chicken version balut egg in Shanghai couple of yrs ago, it seemed hairier than this one, and also the lower part of it was white. He dipped it in peppercorn sea salt. I took the white part. It actually tasted better than it looked. That’s my first time might be the last time to eat that. This is so asian, u can barely come across this outside Asia.
