Google Contacts is an excellent app to store all the information for the people you need to be in touch with. But you can get so much more out of this app than just email addresses and phone numbers.

@@siumaka I liked this one too. Does anyone know how hiding contacts work (I used the button as seen in this video on the pc, but they still appear on my phones)? And how do you unhide these? There are a lot of contacts that I don't mind keeping, but don't want to scroll through on my phones and when I for example start using social media these people pop up as suggestions. I get that I can use two accounts, but if I can store everything in one account, without these contacts getting access to everything I do would be great. I saw there might be a way to add the contacts by phonenumber instead of email and if anyone knows how that works I would love to learn about that too.

Thanks for the video! You’ve given me some tips/ideas to clean up my contact list, which is a real mess. As for tips, I find it really helpful to set up things like Contacts as an app in Chrome with the option to “Open in Window” set. That way, when it opens, it does not get lost in a sea of Chrome tabs. If using Windows, the Chrome app can then be saved as a desktop shortcut, and from there can be pinned to the taskbar and the like.

Great video, thanks. When I started using GMail I imported from my Outlook contacts and groups came with them. Now I have many more contacts than I want, and some odd no-longer-used groups/labels. I'd like any tips you might have for clearing out contacts with multiple labels. Or is there a way to ARCHIVE contacts?

I found your how to find the contacts the most useful. I am really annoyed that Google/Gmail took out the direct link from my mail page. I spent this morning adding pictures to most all of my contacts. I may have to help my husband with his contacts this afternoon...he was just complaining (after getting into a group text conversation with 18 people) that the majority of them are not in his contacts and he has no idea who they are.

With that voice, you should be a DJ! :) Great tips, the one I didn't know was the GC shortcut. Cool! I had bookmarked it in the bookmark bar but this is handy. One thing I wish is that Gmail Contacts would have customization of the fields for the contact = and that I could customize a template! I wonder if G Suite has that...

find the photo image and save that image to "photos" (edit if needed) & then "upload" the desired image photo. I then deleted the photo from my photos & it still remained in contacts.

Use another browser. I believe there is Chrome for Mac or may be FireFox.

You could use labels within Contacts to create separation amongst your contacts. But true folders may be more helpful like you suggest.

helpful video. I have a lot of duplicated contacts, some of which have different spellings of the name (Joe vs. Joe Jr for example) How do you select all of the contacts you want to merge?

In the Contacts list, find the contacts you want to merge. There are two ways to select contacts: Checkboxes: A checkbox will appear next to each contact's name. Click the boxes for the contacts you want to merge. Once you've selected the contacts, look for the "Merge" icon in the top right(looks like an up arrow with 2 ends). Click "Merge" to combine the selected contacts.

Thanks for you introduction to GC. I learned about shortcuts in this video. Is it possible to choose which columns you want to see/appear in GC? I also miss to be in a label and add contacts there.

I liked this video and group emailing was most helpful but I had hoped it would deal with emailing one email address to reach x number of people so that anyone with the group email could do it.

Scott, I enjoy watching your video's and have learned a lot. My topic is concerning Google Contacts. I have a few contacts that have multiple email address, work, other, personal etc. However, I don't remember which one is for which, that's why I have added labels next to them. So when I open their contact information, next to their email it is written work or other. My question is that when I'm composing an email, I input their contact, but the labels do not appear, I can't seem to tell which email is for which. I'm having to go in to my Google Contacts and send an email from there, which I don't want. Please could you give some advice. Thanks for creating these video's with your help I have learned a lot.

G c is go-to contacts similar to g i for go to inbox and g t for go to sent, etc. Press the ? Key to see the shortcut keys help.

Thanks for the video. It would be good to have a more advanced level version of the video like filtering on Google contacts with/without a profile picture and Google contacts which have certain labels and do not have certain labels. I don't think these things can be done in Google contacts so perhaps some third party app can do it.

Hi Scott, I wanted to ask a question. When you add more than one google account to android, all the contacts sync together. I don't want that, I want them to stay separate like they would on a pc/mac in different profiles. Is there a workaround? Plus if I turn off sync for contacts then, when I compose an email, will I be able to see the name like I would on a mac?

Hmmm, I'm not aware of how to separate them on your Android contacts. But I believe you may not have to have sync turned on for Gmail to automatically present contact suggestions within the Gmail app.

Got a question. I'm to send an email to a person at a specific email address, whom that position was occupied by someone else. When I type in the persons name, it brings up his name, but then converts it to the other persons name. I've deleted all my contact info so that I have only two names left in my contact list. But it is still putting the other persons name. What am I missing here? Thanks.

Yes, when sending an email you can add multiple groups in the To line.

Thanks, Scott, for another good video. I appreciate the short-cut to the contact list. The feature I like is labels. I have one group of 40+ individuals to whom I need to send an email. It is so nice to select all for my send. Periodically, I need to edit my contacts as new ones come and old ones go.

No, you will still have the choice when selecting that person's name within Gmail.

I have an issue where a contact is not in contacts or other contacts with "I'll add contacts myself" ticked, and continues to pop up in a list of autofill contacts. I've deleted all conversations but whenever I type s and a, the contact I don't want is loaded first at the top. Little help. I've tried mostly everything but this persistent phantom contact doesn't seem to vanish. And I need it gone.

Yes: I liked the instruction for adding a photo. Related question: isn't there a simple way to add "all" contact info from someone's signature to my contact list. Adding a name and email address is easy, but I want to capture all their contact info w/o having to do it manually. It's one of my bigger time wasters!! I'd rather it be "simple"....

My question: After you label the contacts ABC like you said, and do a new email TO: ABC....I see all of them showing up, what if you want that list but don't want anyone to see who your sending it too? Do you leave the first name your sending too and then drag the rest to Carbon Copy? Thanks! Anyone can answer cause I need the answer quickly. Thanks!

On my duplicates title, it indicates that I have 11 duplicates, but when I click on "duplicates' it says there are no duplicates. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

How about the ability to select a company name and pick the individual from that company without selecting all of them? I have one company entry for my bank with five different individuals I need to communicate with, but when I search for a name in contacts, I get the one company entry, and it replaces my selected person with whoever happens to be listed first, which is rarely the person I want to communicate with. I'm retired. I can't afford a business account, but it appears Google took this functionality out of their legacy contacts manager and put it into a business product that has to be purchased separately from Google Docs.

Just select the 3 dots near the top of the screen (more actions) and select Delete. I hope that helps!

I wish there was a way to toggle off those bubbles. I find them distracting! I studied graphic design and we were taught to establish a hierarchy within a layout. My eyes are drawn immediately to these colourful circles instead of the contact names themselves. Which is not correct hierarchy. I also think that pictures are not necessary either. It would be great if there was an option to have no picture or bubble. Huawei have this option on their phones which I think is terrific. Less is more! Apple are of course the best at this but it doesn't mean Google can't tighten up their design ethos.

Yes. If you use the BCC field, they will only see their email.

Click the checkbox on one of the contacts in your list. Then at the top, you will see another checkbox which will allow you to select all.

You can export the contacts list from the other 2 accounts and then import them into the primary account. You then could run the duplicate check afterward to clean up your list.

This video did not answer my question of how do I create a Group (label). The instructions were also too fast. I think the tips were probably good for someone who is already familiar with the topic (but then, why would that person be looking for this video?).

A similar question: Groups seem to be for sending messages to many people. I never do that. However, I often need to send one message to one person whose email is stored under a company name, and Google no longer lets me select the correct person. I pick a person and Google sees the company entry and replaces the recipient with whoever was randomly listed first. (Often because I allowed Google into nagging me into merging multiple contacts into one company contact entry.)

Hi, thanks for the video. There are too much-duplicated words and phrases, I need to skip very often. You don't need to spend 3 minutes to describe something that can be said in 30 seconds. You don't need to say the same idea 3 times with different words. This is annoying. Good channel. good luck!
