It's so nice to see a Brazilian brand expand to the point that they can partner with a channel like BW. Is this what it feels like to have easy access to the products you guys recomend? hahah

It’s crazy like, I turned 29 (not even quite 30!) and EVERYTHING changed - my skin, hair, and I am pretty sure hormones too. And hormones might be the main cause for me but I must state how much I relate to you, Felicia, as I also am an oily one, going drier as time progresses (and especially in winter in NYC! Eek!)

In my experience, retinol helps to improve skin and dark spots over time. But, it won’t totally stop all new breakouts, especially hormonal acne. You may have to modify your routine based on your cycle (which you have made a great video on) 😊

Correcting Misinformation in This Video: α-Hydroxy acids do have an anti-aging effect. A FAV of 11%-15% results in higher collagen and thicker, less fragmented, elastin. Retinol doesn't cause photosensitivity or added irritation or cause more damage if used in the daytime simply by merit of it being applied topically. The reason why it used to be recommended to not use it in the day is that retinol is extremely unstable and breaks down very quickly when exposed to UV, being rendered inefficacious. Retinol has been clinically proven to work just fine without breaking down when exposed to UV under broad spectrum sunscreen. Adapalene produces absolutely no appreciable results in "a couple of days" - it certainly doesn't "obliterate breakouts" - and suggesting so may discourage people from continued usage that would otherwise have been able to receive benefits from it. Adapalene also has zero clinical data behind it supporting anti-aging claims in the OTC percentage of 0.1%, though 0.3% adapalene has shown to be as efficacious as 0.05% tretinoin in resolving actinic keratosis and solar lentigines and overall cutaneous photoaging. Adapalene 0.1% and 0.3% have both been found to be safe and effective in resolving hyperpigmentation for darker skin tones. α-Hydroxy acids have absolutely nothing in common with retinol. Medical publication Cosmetic Facial Surgery (Second Edition), 2018 recommends: "A topical polyhydroxy acid/lactobionic acid (PHA) or alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) 6-8% can be applied in the mornings to help minimize acne flares and to enhance the penetration of hydroquinone or tretinoin." It further continues to recommend avoiding using acids in the PM. Mandelic acid is not recommended because it breaks down quickly from light, which is not an issue with glycolic acid. There are also quite a few glycolic acid moisturizers. A famous one is the Kate Somerville. Ya'll need to hire your boy to fact check your content before you post it.

Wait sorry: using acids is not recommended in the evening? My whole life was a lie
@shj7346
@shj7346 2 года назад
@@marziapisoni7086 According to that medical publication, that's the case. They note using acids in the day increases penetration and efficacy of actives, specifically tested were retinol and tretinoin, in the PM.

Can I ask some advice cause you seem like you know more than me ?😅 I'm on duac (benzoyl peroxide) so I'm avoiding retinol, aha/bha and glycolic acid rn, I only use duac for 12 weeks at a time. When I finish is it safe to use retinol 1/2 times a week, aha/bha exfoliate once every 2 weeks or a month, and my glycolic product is a toner that says use daily but is that too much?
@shj7346
@shj7346 2 года назад
@@CaityRaindrop The biggest barrier is going to be irritation rather than the ingredients themselves. Benzoyl peroxide oxidizes vitamin C but tretinoin was found to be stable when applied topically alongside a topical benzoyl peroxide. Applying benzoyl peroxide in the day and retinol at night is fine barring irritation. You can safely use benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid at the same time (in the AM), again only barring your own skin's irritation. If you experience irritation, back off from the salicylic acid. Irritation might not seem like much beyond reddening, but I any inflammation is going to increase free radicals in the skin which damage all areas and functions of the skin, and also cause premature aging.

I can't stress enough, retinol 1% is really strong! My skin went through very rough days at the beginning. It was really dry, red and tight at first. My skin felt like leather and it was painful like a sun burn. Then the peeling happened and man, it was A LOT of peeling. And I was only using 1-2 pumps mixed with moisturizer. These days, it's a lot better but I still get some peeling patches here and there.

You can use any ingredients together with the only barrier being the reactivity of your own skin except for: Benzoyl peroxide and vitamin C Copper peptides and vitamin C That's about it. Tretinoin was found to be stable in the presence of topical benzoyl peroxide in a clinical study, so retinol is likely also fine. My comment on their video about layering actives corrects a lot of the misinformation in it.

AHA is good at least once a week (specifically in toner form) to swipe off the flakiness of skin due to retinol. Then just continue using retinol 3-4x a night. Spare one day/night for a very basic skincare regime. Like hydrating face wash and heavy/milky moisturizer after. It's all about being strategic.

One thing that I notice dermatologist don't talk about is how to rotate retinol and chemical exfoliants in your skincare routine. Try BHA it goes into the pore and cleans them out to get rid of breakouts start out only a couple days a week and then move up to what you feel comfortable with Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid is the best thing I found for breakouts and uneven texture and make sure you always use sunscreen when u use exfoilants but you really should always, also after you wash your face and pat dry then put it on with a cotton pad alittlegoes along way then wait a few mins and proceed with your other skincare or you can even try a BHA wash like cereave a few times a week. Don't follow the directions and use up to 2 times a day that is way to much for really anyone idk why it's on the directions.

I so agree!! BHA is great for "de-gunking" pores. Once or twice a week though I like CosRx AHA liquid or WishTrend Mandelic Acid prep water to make sure my BHA(I use Cosrx 😉) penetrates most effectively. Be careful with acids though because too much will make your skin purge { digging up more deep impurities meaning more pimples at once} . Vitamin C is also exfoliating and is great for post breakout leftover marks. Good luck in your skin journey 🤗!!

HELP: I’ve heard that using bha I’m consistently can make your skin breakout or not work as well after time, or whatever. Basically just that you have to use it every other day or everyday for results. But I have felt that i don’t always need it and overusing it can make my skin worse. But if it’s okay to use a spot treatment as needed, it should be fine for the liquid exfoliant, right? I appreciate that someone is being honest about how they use them.

I have to mention yet again here… I’m 58 & have been using the chemical exfoliants this winter & was still looking dull. I brought out my Philosophy Microdelivery exfoliating wash & my skin looks glowing and feels better. Sometimes you need a facial scrub to wash with first so all your other products will work much better. The scrub I use can be used every morning as it’s very gentle & also has vitamin C in it. Been using that brand for 20 years.❤️

I have a question 🙋🏻‍♂️ Can I start using retinol with the Ordinary 0.2% retinol in squalene ? or there’s better alternative?

I stopped using Adapalene Gel because it was drying me out too much and my skin barrier was messed up... Its okay now and I have been thinking about going back. My question is, can I still use it even if I want to keep using my AHA's/BHA's? I understood you shouldn't on the same day. But it's okay to use acids on the nights you're not using retinols? Thank you!

OMG! Yes! Paula's Choice I was testing that and wondering should I get a full bottle or not! Do you also suggest needle rolling? Is that really good and won't damage more skin since I have so much skin damage from using pimple tools back in the day?

I also have this problem of having filled pores under the skin. I came to the conclusion that it's because of salicylic acid and dryness... Anyone ever had this problem and a solution for it?

Thank you so much for your honesty and showing that real skin problems do exist!! I'm 56, but when I see the acne you're dealing with now, I see myself! Stress was a big cause for me, hormones...it's difficult. I know you'll come through it well, and we're right there with you!

Start with once a week first, for about 3 weeks, to built up skin tolerance, then increase to twice a week/ once every 5 days, then 3 times a week. Purging is also common for AHAs & BHAs so you can expect that for about 3 weeks.

This is so cool, you use and praise a Brazilian product. Creamy is really good. I watch your videos recommending these assets since always and being able to watch and recommend products that we managed to buy for a fair price here in Brazil, is very satisfying!
