5 YEAR VOICE TRANSITION TIMELINE | The Evolution of My Voice

In this video, we will be going over the evolution of my voice over the course of 5 years. It has been a long and bumpy ride but I'm infinitely thankful to be where I am today. I hope by sharing this it can help those who are feeling stuck or lost in the process. Voice alteration is fundamentally non-linear. There will be moments where you have zero progress and moments where you go further than ever in no time. It's tricky to determine which side of that you're on at any given time. Focus your sights on the long game and constantly interrogate yourself about your own experience.
13:40 for the seamless back to back audio timeline.
warmly,
z

I had no clue that you can change your voice so much and reach into passable without surgery. This is a little inspiring as a GNC man. I may not be a trans woman but I have a lot of feminization in my appearance, talking, and behavior. My voice can make me a little uncomfortable from how deep it used to be. Currently I can have a semi-passable voice and I’m really trying to reach a tomboy-ish type of voice as I want to keep a fraction of my masculinity but still wanna have my femininity. Great video! Also I literally couldn’t stop saying out loud how pretty you are.

@@olive8604 gnc is the initials for gender non-conforming. It means people who appear, behave, speak, etc differently from what society thinks their gender should be. An example would be a man with long hair, wearing makeup, and wearing a dress whereas society usually imagines a man would wear a suit, have short hair, and have more of a masculine look. I’m gnc and don’t conform to what society thinks I should look and act when it comes to my gender. Your voice is wonderful and it is fun to see the transition. It gives hope, and a realistic timeline, to those that are trying to change their voice. Also, your masculine voice was not gross. Just different. Please don't shame yourself, you are, were, and always will be awesome. We also don't want those who still have a masculine voice or choose not to change it to feel that their voice is gross, or that you might feel that their voice is gross.

I don't normally tell other trans people that I couldn't tell because I know not everyone appreciates it, but you know that we can recognise each other in a way cis people can't and this time I genuinely thought you were a cis vocal coach because I've never heard such a flawless feminine voice in a trans woman before (I hope this isn't read as an attack on other girls' voice training trajectory) and it's clearly the result of a very long journey that you've put a lot of work into. I've seen a lot of people give up on their voices and I wish I could show them this video as proof that nothing is impossible.

So my friend is transitioning MTF and I want to be as helpful as possible. So I've been watching every vid and I'm even practicing these vocal techniques as well so I can work with her and just be there to help out. I've known them for years. I love them like family and at first I guess I was utterly confused as to what they meant by transitioning. I'd even say I was against it at first. But I love them so much. I want to be supportive. I feel like most people hate the sound of their own voice in general, but couple that with the dysphoria, that has to be really hard to deal with. Dear IcarusBSP, I am also very tall - 6’9’’, in my mid 40s and MtF transgender. I am out to my wife (who accepts that side of me) and a few other people (who largely try to avoid the trans topic). I had strong dysphoria in 2011-14, then I managed to shove this aside for a few years, but at the cost of anger issues and depression. Now dysphoria has been back for some time and I am contemplating transitioning in some way or form over the next years. I go back and forth in my mind what that should look like. Given my height, I feel like I cannot completely give up my male “safe space”, which allows me respite from being gawked at when out as a woman. It is just tiring and frustrating after a few hours and I just feel like going home. I feel like if I made my best effort over a couple of years with voice training, make up etc, I could actually be quite beautiful and feel good about myself. But I feel that my height would always prevent that I can live a normal life as a woman. Then I consider where to create sizable female spaces in my life without making my family’s life miserable (by them suffering all kinds of prejudices). It is very hard to find an acceptable way forward. I would love to talk with you about our experiences. Maybe we can provide each other some support and maybe even find ways how each of us can move forward. Best, Jessica

Claire, so much is about finding the right teacher. I worked with a speech therapist for 6 months. It was mainly about working on pitch. I never gained confidence, although I made some progress. I stalled some after that, got down on my dreams of ever being happy with my voice. I then found someone who has skills similar to Zhea. After just a few sessions, I am making strides both in understanding of what I'm doing and in actually doing the correct things. I now believe that the right guidance is key to not wasting a lot of time. Progress is quicker than I thought it could be. I don't mind the hard work when I can see the right things progressing.
