Amazing breakdown and insights, mate! I like your point about headphones, because it is so true. I have quite cheap speakers in my completely untreated room, which I only use for referencing or to listen to music. Mixing and mastering is done with headphones only :)

$50k seems like a lot. I have a similar home studio (but a dedicated sound engineered room) and I may have spent close to $50k over the last 20+ years, but I sold a lot of gear in the last 2 years and recovered a lot of cash. I’m going all ‘in-the-box’ with my MacBook 16” M1 Max, UAD Apollo and plugins, sold my outboard gear and console, using all virtual instruments, sold most of my synths, etc. I’d say my current investment hovers around the $20k mark.

If I include filming + content set up, my cameras + lenses alone are like 20k . I have a shit ton of synths now + quality recording gear as well- that shit adds up quick! You’d be surprised how quickly things like stands and cables add up too. I’m actually going to be clearing some stuff out pretty soon as well. I’ll surely have a video about it lol.

@@LiamKillen Very True. I’m looking at upgrading to the UA Apollo x4 from my Apollo Twin X and it’s $2899 in Canada for the Heritage Edition. In 2021 I sold any non-4K video and camera gear. Sold a GoPro, a Sony a6100 and many accessories, then bought the Sony Zv-E10. Your investment in synths sounds substantial, but fortunately, synth hardware tends to retain it’s value. One trend that I predict will end is the high cost of vintage guitars, amps and keyboards, which is fuelled by wealthy baby-boomers, who are now 60 - 80 years old. They artificially drove up prices with “I always wanted this, when I was a kid” attitudes. As they die, millennials will inherit the gear and they generally don’t share the same nostalgic connection. Instead, they’ll want cash and an$30k Gibson will be back down to $3k. Vendors know this is coming.

I get it! my gear is now also split into separate stations.. I dont use a DAW, everything is played live, I have more gear than I should have, my partner can't keep up with what i've got... I can't keep up with what I've got! I like your tape/sample recording station, it's cool, cheers.

Nice setup. Let me ask you a question. Audio connection and flow seems to be a bit unclear to me. Apogee captures audio from the daw computer and it goes to zoom h5 via audio out? And zoom h5 is connected to the streaming computer via USB?

hmm i'm not sure about the wood TBH- but Output posts the blue print to the desk that this is modelled after. I think it's just called "the output desk"-- maybe there's some more info there. Cheers,
