What problems have you gotten with your MK7 so far? Turbo Inlet Pipe testing: mygolfmk7.com/turbo-inlet-pipe/

had an oil leak, luckily I wasn't tuned so my dealer took care of it on warranty. it was the valve cover gasket and rear main seal, would have been a pain if they denied it due to a tune

2016 mk7, Biggest problem was the thermostat sticking, cost a pretty penny to fix. Two months ago came back after a weekend trip to a big puddle of oil under the car, apparently it had a cracked oil pan and front timing cover leak (must’ve been South Carolina roads). I’ve gotten a lot of weird little electrical issues, the car likes to tell me to check engine oil level, and most recently the ecs dash light came on after oil pan fix putting the car into limp mode. Clearing codes fixed that. Just rolled 82k miles on the car (41k since I bought the car) and I plan to drive it till the wheels fall off. Going to start doing some light modding just to make the car more enjoyable to daily. I must say it’s an expensive car to repair when things go wrong, but driving it is just a pleasure, especially around the city.

2018 GTI with 47k. I had to have gas tank replaced under warranty at 15k miles. No other issues. I have the 6 year 72k mile factory warranty. So I'm still covered for a bit. I plan on keeping the car well past 100k.

The whole gas tank? What was the problem?
@Max_Thunder
@Max_Thunder 2 года назад
@@LucasHuang I had a code for a very small evap leak. They switched out the gas tank filler neck then evap canister. When that didnt fix it they did a smoke test and found the gas tank as the root problem. Im sure what part of the gas tank they saw smoke coming out of. However, since the gas tank swap, no issues at all.

I also had my gas tank replaced under warrnty, well... the whole fuel system on my 2017 Mk7 GTI. It had about 12k miles, I was driving and all of the sudden, I smell gasoline. When I checked, it was my car dumping all of the gasoline into the road by itself.

I felt it when you said about the window switch 😂 I literally reset the driver side before I drive off and it does not give me issues the rest of the day. Also my rear wiper blade is brand new and it makes an annoying sound when wiping left.
@LucasHuang
@LucasHuang 3 года назад
yesss to the rear wiper shit. i mean given i haven't changed mine at all but then again i barely use it. when i do it makes the chattering noise on the first wipe all the time

Thank you for your input on your MK7, it’s been helpful on things to look for. I have an MK7.5 (Rabbit Edition). I love the car, haven’t done any mods yet (kinda hesitant to do so) but there are some things I would like to do in the future

Hi Lucas. I have the same window switch issue. Yes it is very annoying and seeing as you replaced the switch and didn't solve it is disappointing. If you ever find a solution please post a new vid. Thanks!

Thanks for doing these mods and talking honestly about them. I'm in a 2020 Audi A3, the 2.0 quattro, so essentially the same engine. Only 10k miles so far, but so far so good. No mods yet as I am afraid of Audi repair prices if something breaks. Maybe a Unitronic engine and transmission tune in a year or so. Only thing I don't like is the dct/dsg; all my cars have been manual before this one and I end up fighting with it often. Probably trade it for a manual GTI or R some day soon.
@LucasHuang
@LucasHuang 3 года назад
Yes I do have a gripe with the DSG. I hate that it always tries to save gas and up shift, especially going up hills and you lose power going up. The tune made it somewhat better but still annoying. Most of the time I'm in manual mode anyways if it's not traffic
@morgandrives
@morgandrives 3 года назад
@@LucasHuang Same. Manual mode most of the time. I’ll probably trade into a real manual sooner than I should. But I love everything else about my A3.

Thanks for your video, I am really not impressed with VW my last car was a 2015 TDI which they replaced. That was a great engine, it was just killing everyone around with its fumes.

So I have the 2019 MK7.5 facelift GTI and had window switch and suspension noise issue which were both fixed under warranty It seems like they're universal issue with most VW Golf GTI, and like you I have Unitronic stage 2 and downpipe(Unitronic) and no other issues "knocks on wood"

For the mk7 with Unitronic they don’t have a feature to turn it on/off. For the mk7.5 apparently if you put it into eco mode then it’s off

For one thing I'm no lowered so I've been good so far even though i did crack my oil pan once. It is "big" enough to tetris all your costco trips and then also small enough to fit into the tightest street parking spots. Then if you get the chance to get out of the city you can open it up and have some fun in like the bear mountain curves or something

I'd start with the strut tower bearings. I've heard the ShopDap/DEUTSCHE AUTOPARTS guy say that if you're lowered, they last about 10,000 miles before they start making noise.
