Gabe these are such great ideas. I downloaded this immediately to watch later! I live off-grid in the North Idaho mountains. It is way cold here right now (-30 about 4 weeks ago but warmer now). During your video you got me thinking a bit. You said "schedule self-care time!" I have an autoimmune issue that puts me in bed for several days at a time sometimes. Yes sucks! But love your idea! Why not schedule a bit of a hobby for those in-bed times? Hadn't thought of that before. I always default to watching something online. But why? I could be learning something cool like drawing or painting, or another "hobby!" Yea! Thanks! Have to think a bit about what cool thing I would like to learn and do. I might set up a little rolling cart by my bed with this new "hobby" idea! --So I can make lemonade out of those lemons!

Here's a habit that will have a big impact. Be early. Always. Routinely. That way, you're never rushing, which will give you peace of mind, and if there are unexpected delays, you'll still be on time. Bring a book. You'll never miss a flight or be late to a meeting, and you'll get a reputation for being reliable.

We are now empty nester. As I look back and ahead, I see that my husband has lived a life filled with fulfilling routines that got us here. This was long before social media and smart phones. He just lived the way his parents did. God first, then family. Care about your neighbors, but don't care about impressing anyone. I really had no idea how far his simple and steady approach would take us. So many of the blessings we have are the result of this quiet, unselfish, kind man who prioritized in the right way. Almost all the things you mentioned he started doing at age 20 -- including remain debt free no matter what. We're looking at 60's, and I am so grateful for his steadfast ways. ❤

I believe there are some neuroses running in both sides of my genetics and, without getting into those specifics, in the last few years I've begun attempting to identify when a hyperfocus/ocd tendency hits, how productive/satisfying the task will be - how to be ocd about being ocd, if you will. I can spend hours organizing and aligning things (as an artist I can view this as practicing my still life composition skills), but some piles of clutter sit bc i haven't found a home for the items and other tasks take precedent... until one day I've decided I'm tired of letting it stress out that corner of my living space, and poof! It's gone.

Cleaning routine tip! Especially if you have ADHD like myself! Pair your cleaning activities with your activities of daily living... the things in your life that you do every day no matter what. Some examples: when I brush my teeth in the morning, I use my other hand to straighten my counter up and give it a quick wipe. When I get dressed, I also "dress" my bed. It feels SO good getting into a made bed at night! While I heat my breakfast, I unload my dishwasher. While I heat lunch I reload it. I don't buy ad-free versions of some of my streaming platforms...during ads I switch or fold laundry or tidy up my living room. When I brew my coffee, I water my indoor plants. When I let my dogs outside, I water my garden. Pairing is just so natural, often I think in a way now of searching for ways to cheat more into the smallest time block and its like a fun challenge.

I'll comment on your wake up 5 min early comment. At one point I started waking up 1hr earlier and it made a huge psychological difference. Before I woke up and everything was in preparation for me to go work for someone else. When I woke up earlier I was able to do "me" things which turned waking up into getting up to enjoy my life and no waking up to go do things for someone else.

I really appreciated all these time and 'peace of mind' saving ideas! Some tricks I have learned are: 1. I buy all my socks in the same style and color, same with winter gloves, I bought several one year and just keep using them. When I lose a right glove, I get another, same with losing a left glove. 2. I also started graying at around 19, so I decided to 'go gray gracefully'. My poor aunt once asked when I was going to start dyeing my hair because it made HER look old, and I told her never. I am now 65 and only use wash-out dye in a pink or purple when I need a little pick me up. I only wash my hair 2x week as it gets too dry, and this has also saved me a lot of time. 3. As far as clothing goes, I have been trying to change over to a more minimalist style and try to keep any new clothing I buy in shades of blue or gray. I also wear my slacks for 2-3 days if they don't get dirty. I change my tops daily as I do have a problem with hand tremors, and I change everything else on a daily basis. In the summer I wear sandals, so no socks at all. 4. I rarely get on facebook because I will be on all day if I do. I tell everyone that if they need me to know something, either call me or text me the info. 5. I ride my exercycle every day. If I am not feeling well, I may only do 10-15 minutes. Otherwise, I try for as close to 1 hour as I can. I am disabled, so I can not always make it for the full hour, so my goal is actually 30 minutes daily minimum...I do go to a pool at least 1x weekly when possible and walk around the pool for 30-60 minutes. The pool is at a community/senior center, so I socialize while I am there having lunch before I get into the pool! Afterward is when I do my grocery shopping (I am starting to order most items online to do a curb pickup, the anything I want to pick out myself, I get by running into store for a short time, then going out to car to finish my grocery pickup. Yes, I pay 2x, but I save so much time.) and then run any other errands that I need to, so that I only have to leave home 1x week when possible. 6. When cleaning bathrooms, I spray everything down and leave the spray to work its magic for about 5-10 minutes, then return to clean and rarely have ever had to scrub because I gave the spray time to work. While I wait that 5-10 minutes, I go run hot water in my kitchen sink and put dishes in to soak while I go back to clean the bathroom...unfortunately, due to a disability, I rarely feel well enough to do everything on a daily basis.😢 I do what I can when I can, so I try to do as much as I can in as little time as possible. I have my exercycle next to my washer and dryer and on the day(s) I am able to do Iaundry, I do it while riding my exercycle. I also watch most of the RU-vid videos I watch at this time as well, though I may change this to listening to music instead, or maybe a mix of the two, not sure yet... Anyway, thanks for a few extra ideas!

your comment sparked me to create a habit of cleaning breakfast dishes while my husband is in the shower, because it takes so long for hot water to get to the side of the house with the master bathroom and the kitchen! I'm not sure what your disability is, but there are exercise systems that help with our functional disabilities that we can do in more like 15 to 20 minutes that give us more strength and aerobic capacity without pushing up our cortisol which usually happens after 20 minutes or so. Personally, I love rebounding on a safe rebounder because it offers so many more health benefits than cycling exercise! I use the Cellerciser, Other safe ones include the lymphasizer, and a few others. You want a therapeutic versus damaging bounce. Really helps with blood sugar, blood pressure, balance, detoxification, building muscle throughout the body, as well as being aerobic.
@tbacon2784
@tbacon2784 Месяц назад
@bitrudder3792 I would love a rebounder, may get one someday, if my doctor decides it is safe.. I mostly use an excercycle, no weight on damaged ankles, knees, and my replaced hip. Does wonders for blood flow... I do easy short walks to the street and back and do gentle stretches... I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which is a connective tissue problem. Joints refuse to stay in place...cannot do anything in regards to weights or lots of jumping up and down with sudden stops, of course...I was walking in a pool, but they shut it down for repairs and have no idea when it will reopen. Thank goodness outdoor pools will open in about a month, so I can get back to doing that as well.

@bitrudder3792 I'll bet your husband appreciates his getting hot water quicker that way too... Glad I was able to inspire you!

@@tbacon2784 EDS might be an issue with glyphosate poisoning...it substitutes for the amino acid Glycine, causing incorrect protein formations. Since glycine is most prevalently used in connective tissues and joints...you can see why I think this is the logical cause. No doctor can prove it, they dont actually understand human biology anyhow they just are trained in drugs and mechanical interventions. I would look to Dr. stephanie Seneff of MIT for tips on how to detox it...which will take about 7 years if you are assiduous as that is how long it takes us to rebuild every cell in the body. I believe it can be done. Even horses are having this problem with dysfunctional connective tissue...their feeds are loaded with glyphosate.

@bitrudder3792
@bitrudder3792 Месяц назад
When people are dying their normal colored hair, especially when it hasn't even gone gray yet, I just feel like there's a self-rejection problem in society. 😢 I think people feel out of step with what's popular and what's in style without considering what looks good on them. Coloring hair in order for it to match a standard set by someone else. after decades of information available on selecting colors that look good on us, I was hoping that this understanding would be a little more widespread. Everyone is on a continuum of cool to warm coloring, muted to clear coloring, high to low contrast, and everywhere in between. Just find where you fit on that and start holding things up to yourself and see what works. In this world of cell phones, it's not hard to get into some good light, and start taking pictures of our hair, eyes, eyebrows, lips, the inside of our lips, skin at different parts of our body, our skin when flushed (pinch your thumb and take a picture of how pink it gets), don't forget your nails without polish on them. Then start blowing up and taking screenshots of these pictures until you have what looks like color chips. Lots and lots of color chips reflecting all the colors that you see. Keep doing screenshots until you have a nice representation of the colors of YOU. This is your neutral palette, and it may have your most beautiful colors that are not neutral, depending on the color of your eyes. take a screenshot of all of those colors and voilà take it shopping with you. Don't settle for things that aren't harmonious with it. Then hold things up to yourself and pay attention to what you see. Pay attention to what you want. Do you want the first thing that people say to be YOU or the clothing? When you look at yourself, do you see the clothing first or do you see YOU first. Look at the scale of the print if it's not a solid. Look at the texture whether it's rough or fine or somewhere in between and ask yourself what you like and what you don't like on YOU. Do the same for stripes, plaids, sequins, beads, leather, and all levels of outfits so far as formality is concerned. Do you look better in formal or less formal clothing? There's no need for us to be helpless and let the market decide what we were. We can learn to be selective, we can learn how to eliminate 99% of the things in the store at a glance once we know what we like and what achieves The effect that we want to display.

you are fortunate that you were able to get rid of one of your cars, but having only one car has really screwed over a family member when her husband's business required him to start using the car… It messed up her ability to work at home because sometimes she needs to run out and get a specific color product for a client at the last minute. And now I’m dying it again. It was good to hear a guy saying this. One of the reasons I keep going back is the way people treat me when I have grey hair. A hairdresser said, “well my older ladies like you…” or a waitress who said when my family and I went to a restaurant “should we get a booth for your mother?” But you’re giving me courage to just let that be their problem rather than making it mine. I think a lot of the problem is about the fact that we think looking old or even being old is bad (but, as someone said, getting old is better than the alternative, which is dying young). And, in the case of women, in a lot of societies, it is seen as "letting yourself go" if you don't dye your hair to hide that it's gray or white. I'm a graying woman myself and I like it. I think it looks nice on me and I don't mind that it "shows my age". It's my age and I've acquired it legitimately 😁. I understand you may feel uncomfortable and I'm sorry. But maybe you can just go out and rock that gray hair. 🤗🤗🤗

About the go to meals, we do this thing on weekends where we meal prep while we're already making lunch and dinner. Making more of it doesn't take up that much more time, and we strive to make it simple. Like things you can just mix up and cook in the oven, and while you get lots of food and it's in the oven you have time to do other stuff, like spending quality time or catching up with some cleaning or laundry or whatever you need or want to do. And at the end of that weekend we have the food for all week ready to bring to work, to heat up during the week so we don't need to spend lots of time with cooking, doing dishes, cleaning up etc during the weekdays, when there is very limited amounts of time and we actually want to be able to get some quality time to hangout together. Just making a larger batch of a couple meals that you make on the weekend will get you a couple of different ones to choose from so you don't end up with one single meal that you get tired of after 2 days.

I sweeped and mopped the floors in our entire home while listening to this video in my headphones. Sometimes multitasking is a really good thing and sometimes it´s the opposite. It´s so important for lowering stress and both the quality and the quantity of what one are doing to know when it´s good or bad. One habit that I think is very important is to regulary schedule time for one self. I am at 52yo still struggeling with this one. I say that want time for recreation, time for workout/walking/yoga/things going on inside my head and time for going to exibitions, lectures aso but I tend to always put those important things last. In another video you talk about working/being occupied all the time and not prioritize friends and friendship, I have the same problem. I am also self-employed tho without the passive income element, Iam a picker and antiques dealer with my own web shop. Many of my old friends are "in a different time of life" (kids, jobwise aso) and I haven´t really figured out how to make new ones. I have a few tho we don´t hang out or even speak to eachother nearly as much as I would like. I really need to get better on that, because it´s mostly my fault. ps. Black clothes are relly a good choice, I have been doing that since pre-teen, comfy and black, I don´t care what others think about it.
