I once dreamt someone told me that the dreams we forget are the ones that come true, so when we have a deja vu, it's our brain actually recalling that forgotten dream.

Right. But what about premonition dreams? When I was 20 and away at school, my mom called and told me that our beloved Siamese cat had disappeared and had not been seen for two weeks. A week or so after her call, I had a dream that our beloved Oscar, the cat, had come home. A few days after the dream, mom called to tell me the great news that Oscar had come home. Was my dream a premonition, or just my subconscious in a state of wishful thinking? I don't know.

One of the most painful "lucid" dreams I ever had was a few weeks after my fiancé passed away last year. We were together and I realized I was dreaming when I sensed myself starting to wake up. I looked at him and said "I don't want to go yet. I want to stay here with you a little longer..." Of course, I woke up and just had the saddest day ever. Dreams might be all in our heads, but the emotions they generate are very real!!! 🥺🥺🥺

My dad has been dead several years but he is in my dreams all the time. Funny thing is that I never dreamt about him when he was alive. Funny how dreams often compensate for some kind of loss.

Sounds like similar lucid dreams I've had of my former fiance, or my deceased parents. In the fiance dream, she's with me again, we're together, but she's never really with me, it's fake. In the mom and dad dreams, one or the other is there. And I'm like, 'Mom! Are you okay?', and she says, 'Yeah. I'm fine.' And, I'm thinking, 'but... you're fine? That's great, mom!' But then, even while still in the dream, my RATIONAL mind takes over and says, 'But mom, you're dead! You can't be here!' It's really painful, both dreams.

There is a moment there, how long, I have no idea, where, when one is between the dreaming and awake state, where your mind is not sure or not what you were dreaming is real or not. It's truly fascinating. One that happens to me is, that in the dream, I'm about to graduate from college, BUT, I've neglected this one class, all semester, that I have to pass in order to graduate. Then I wake up, consciously thinking, "Oh God! I'm going to fail to graduate!". Then, I guess, my MORE conscious/aware mind is reassured and I say to myself: Sam! It's done! You HAVE graduated! It's an incredible relief, I kid you not, because unless it's a lucid dream, one doesn't know that a dream is not reality.

To know if you're dreaming, try to find a clock that has hands or is on, but speaking from experience, I think that at least probably won't work if you take any brain-based prescriptions. And I hope you find which vitamin helps with remembering dreams from a reliable source, I forgot it.

It doesn't have to be scary. The best thing to do is research it as much as you can and listen to stories of other people who got rid of their fear. For example: I was nine when it fiest started happening to me. I told just about everyone about it and barely anyone believed me (people didn't know about it back then as much as they do now) and my cousin found an article about it whicu got me to research it more. I just remember one day at age thirteen waking up in the living room and walking back to my room to sleep but as I'm falling asleep I notice I can't move but this time I'm not scared

There have been studies on mapping where brain activity happens and their intensity when we visually see different images (and if i remember correctly videos) so they can use that to digitally create a reconstruction of our dreams based on our brain activity while dreaming. I've come to believe that dreams are really two things: 1. A means for the brain to process and compartmentalize everything it has learned or experienced during the day and 2. A way for the brain to practice various scenarios so as to be prepared just in case something happens. A part of the fight/flight response. I've never actually been attacked by a pack of wolves in real life but I have multiple times in my dreams. I suspect that whatever I may have done in those dreams would be recalled and brought into play if I was ever actually confronted with a similar danger.

It's plausible that our dreams mean much more than your points 1 and 2. For example, what about 'negative' dreams where you dream that you're somehow socially unnacceptable, or, rejected by women? Or generally sexually rejected? Is it 1 and 2 in your examples, or is it some kind of subconscious doubt in one's subconciouss mind about one's self-worth? All this is still poorly understood, even by the specialists who study it.

Sometimes I think I am having two dreams simultaneously: The two halves of my brain have different functions and there is only a narrow connection between them. So long as I am awake, I seldom notice the difference, but when I am asleep, random synapses go off on both sides, and my brain tries to patch them into some kind of a coherent picture, a dream, but sometimes it just fails, and the two halves each produce its own version of these imaginary inputs.

I lucid dream quite a lot, ive been practicing since childhood. I had a dream once that i was looking thru a cardboard box. @1Grumpymonk
@1Grumpymonk 6 месяцев назад
Yeah it can be. I learned to lucid dream as a kid because I was having nightmares actually. I'd dream I was being chased down a dark hallway that never ended, I never knew what was chasing me as I never looked back... I was tired of it one day and told myself the next time I had the nightmare, I was going to turn around and run at what was chasing me... In order to do that I had to first realize I was in a dream (or nightmare), and make the decision to turn around. Boom, could lucid dream ever since. My motivation to start lucid dreaming was to overcome my nightmares, even though I didn't know what lucid dreaming was at the time; So I rarely have them anymore. Be brave, it's well worth it! And be patient, it can take a lot of practice. Also, once you're in a lucid dream it isn't very hard to will yourself awake from it so don't worry.

I recently had a lucid dream that I was a Roman soldier in a massive field and I was fighting in a war. I originally was only holding a sword and someone rushed me from my left and I thought “I need a sword in my other hand” and I blocked the attack with a sword in my left hand that I didn’t have before. Hands down the coolest dream I’ve ever had.

I had a dream someone broke into my house he was wearing a backpack then I woke up scared and checked the locks and it woke up my boyfriend I told him about the dream and what the intruder looked like , he said thats not going to happen go back to sleep, then the very next day a man wearing a backpack that looked like the man in my dream broke into my house while I was at work and my boyfriend was home alone. He was able to get him out of the house safely by saying "you must be looking for the house up the street thats for rent." My boyfriend walked around him out of the house then the intruder hesitated stayed in the home for a while before eventually exiting. The man didn't have a weapon that he saw, just a backpack on. As I was getting home the intruder had JUST left I actually passed him on my way home so I saw him, and then my boyfriend told me what just happened when I got home. Thats the only time I ever had a dream come true.

Very interesting! I've been recently having dreams that I realise that I'm dreaming, and then I can control the dream. I've also been having a dream within a dream. I had one last night. I was on some sort of holiday, then I woke up, and found myself back in the old house I was living in with my mum. I sat there with my mum standing in my bedroom, and I was telling her about my dream, before she went to tidy her bedroom. Then I eventually woke up, and realised I just had a dream within a dream. These types of dreams do mess me up. It just makes me wonder what is real.

I've been having episodes of sleep paralysis for as log as I can remember. My mother described how, as a baby I would wake in the night screaming in terror. As a very young child I had no idea what these episodes were. I have clear memories of flying around. Then I heard about alien abduction and I thought that was what it was. As an adult I finally found out what was really going on. It's a dream, but it feels completely real.

Famously, Paul McCartney dreamt the entire melody for "Yesterday"; when he woke up, he ran to the piano in the house and played it at once, to fix it in his waking memory... and thank goodness he did! I've had dreams of: conversing entirely in whistles and musical motifs (in which everyone understands what the others "say" via strings of notes); playing the piano and improvising new music with a prodigy's ease (and much, much better than I ever did as a student); flying (but having difficulty with either lateral or vertical movement control, so I'd rise too high, sink too low and crash into a tree or bush, or bump awkwardly into doorways); doing research in various libraries, in which I skim and take notes on a stack of books which, AFAIR, don't exist in real life and sometimes cover subjects (such as structural engineering) which I've never read about in books, or read about at all, beyond the rare magazine or website article. I also have had a cinematic, seemingly very long dream of an action-adventure/espionage story in which I was a James-Bond-like woman by turns fleeing and martial-arts-fighting a heavily armed gang of mysterious bad guys dressed mostly in dark Armani suits, and prevailing over them all, one after another. (The external walls and corners of miscellaneous buildings really helped me in getting the jump of them, as they pursued me at full speed blindly around corners.) Needless to say, that latter dream was a 100% unfounded fantasy, except perhaps for the general tendency for certain govt. or mafia goons to wear Armani. Unfortunately, those dreams are the exhilarating exception. Much more common is that I let my laundry pile up and then I dream that I stop putting it off and resignedly set about doing the laundry... without so much as The Pretenders' "Watching the Clothes" playing in the background to at least enliven the tedium.

If I go by the logic presented here, then I'm absolutely a dreaming weirdo. I dream intensely vivid dreams most of the time, if I fall into a deep sleep, and I remember them a long time after. I'm occasionally prone to becoming aware of myself during dreams, although it doesn't interfere with anything. I'm just aware of my body and know I'm asleep yet still dreaming. I can't call it sleep paralysis because I'm never frightened of it and I actually can move my limbs and stuff. I was one of those kids with a very active imagination and I wrote a lot, and the imagination part persists to this day, even though that fact I usually keep to myself, lest I be accused of living inside my head or something. I'm ambidextrous, always loved reading and listening to science and documentary stuff of many kinds, so I guess I am not surprised if my brain goes into vivid territory at night. There are many nights I don't sleep much, if at all, due to my work schedule, so when I do sleep from being tired, I go right into deep sleep, vivid-dream territory.

Lucid dreams are amazing. For a while it was really easy to induce them but got a little harder over time for me. I don’t have total control but I can fly, walk through walls and most importantly change the setting of the dreamscape incase im in a scary place. The reason I say it’s amazing besides having full memory of the experience is it leaving me in a good mood the entire day. The freedom and joy of the dream followed me around the day until I slept and dreamt again. False awakenings are the first defense your brain uses to keep you unconscious. At least for me my brain started pushing back making it harder to maintain lucidity.

I have had PTSD since I was a kid.. Had really, really bad night terrors for years. I have learned how to control my dreams but it did take a long time before I could and its kind of strange. If I am not careful I can easily cause a dream to become worse.. For example, giving a person who is trying to harm me the ability to stretch out.. Able to reach me as I was trying to fly away from them. Its extremely rare for me to have bad dreams now as I am able to control them and turn said dreams into better ones. But sometimes its very difficult to prevent the dreams from becoming sour. Yes, this does mean I constantly have "lucid" dreams. Its something I learned once again.. Due to the constant night terrors. Its kind of difficult to describe but its like willing things to happen. ( Oh and, the "superpower" thing is very much something that I use a lot. Flying/hovering is common, breathing underwater, making things explode, creating weapons, making black holes.. I have also ended up destroying a planet.. I was extremely angry in that dream... A LOT of different things basically.. But I have also made things that ended up being determent for me in said dream.. lol )

I've had a few nightmares about spiders, once flying swarms of black widows were chasing me and I turned a corner only to find myself facing another swarm coming at me, but I used to suffer from arachnophobia, I just woke with my heart pounding from fear. However, I have been awakened by loud bangs or people yelling nearby that set my PTSD off, awakened feeling like I'm back in the robbery again. Thankfully, I've never experienced sleep paralysis, but I do suffer from severe chronic pain and when I first wake up I'm usually pain free for 20 minutes or so before the pain starts returning.

I have had some scary dreams. Normally being chased running with my son finding a place to hide, killing bad people. And I have the same dreams over and over again. I can write a book lol

This may have something to do with how my autistic brain works, but I have vivid dreams often, to the point that if I don't remember even a trace of an idea from a dream the night before, it's freaky to me. I have lucid dreamed once. There were other times where I was aware I was dreaming, but pretty much only partly acknowledged it and didn't care enough for the dream to become truly lucid like that once I referred to. Pretty much a "oh, I'm dreaming? Cool. Don't care." Let me just tell you The one time I lucid dreamed was a nightmare. My subconscious mind overused a character as symbolic of very specific, deeply-rooted fears at the time, so when I did have a moment to pause, I realized every single time I'd seen that character, it hadn't been real, so more likely than not, I was dreaming. It took a lot of focus to keep the dream lucid, so I only focused on one intent: to find the character and tell them to back off. A nightmare turning lucid is one of the most amazing things that can happen, let me tell you, even if you don't care to directly change the setting!

Years ago i witnessed a shooting where my friend was shot in the head and chest by his father in law and the guy turned the gun on me. I started having night terrors so bad i wasnt paralyzed while having them and one night i was facing my fiancee at the time and hit her in my sleep. That morning i went to a counselor to get some help. Worst feeling ever was hitting someone i loved in my sleep

I have sleep paralysis at least once or twice a month. Before I started wearing a cpap, I would wake up face down in my pillow. I would have to fight for control of my body to get my nose or mouth enough to breathe.

Here's a tip. The next time you get sleep paralysis, try to stay calm. Close your eyes and focus on something nice, like a beach or any place you're comfortable being in. I've heard this way you can transition from sleep paralysis into a lucid dream.

@@infinitedeath1384 yes I came to this same conclusion about ten years ago. Also stopped sleeping on back and stomach helped a lot. Now with the cpap mask helps me calm down quicker knowing that I am not able to be face down in my pillow. Also the cpap pressure is high enough so I don't have to worry about not getting enough air.

@@tomdillan Honestly, I sleep on my back all the time hoping it happens, because I want to lucid dreams. Other than a couple weird dreams, and only one that was eventful, my sleep has been mostly relaxing, yet boring. I want to spice things up with lucid dreaming.

I've tried the calm approach but it has never worked. I always get freaked out. The strange thing is, this has only been happening post lockdowns. Maybe I had some anxiety issues. I've been getting it three or four times a week. I hate it.

I have the flip side of sleep paralysis. Where sleep paralysis occurs upon waking (hypnopompic hallucination), I get hypnogogic hallucinations where it occurs in between being awake and falling asleep. It can be super peaceful and relaxing sometimes when it happens this way around.

Yeah im very aware of my dreams, I can control them and everything, I wake up a lot during the night and each time I go back to sleep the same dream continues like I paused a movie or something, it's really cool, but can be extremely scary sometimes.

I had a dream once with 7 false awakenings. The thing that broke the loop was my reflection in the mirror.

For me the craziest dream experiences were recent, this year. I've never had a dream that felt real but this year i had two. The first one my long distance ex i was with for 3 years, the first girl i ever loved was here with me. We were driving in my Escape around my town, shopping, running errands, and having a chat while driving around. I remember looking at her talking with the sun through the windows on her dark tan and the sunroof open. When i woke up i was in shock and it made me so depressed, a crazy experience I've never had. Then it happened again, i used to talk to a lot of foreign people so this dream was just that, in the dream i was laying in my bed, i woke up early and couldn't fall back asleep so i started texting a friend from a foreign country, and the entirety of this dream was me having a great conversation over text, but in this dream they sent me a picture of where they were standing, it was night out aimed down a street with some houses lined down the road and street lights with moumtains in the back and for some reason that picture haunted me and then i woke up and it was crazy
