Part One of this week's vintage home decor shopping! In this video I'll take you thrifting with me to Value Village where we'll hunt for vintage - I got a great haul, including some brass and copper items and unique art pieces. At the end we'll go over what has sold recently on the Etsy shop. Hope you enjoy this thrifting video and thrifted finds!

I like that this store puts their plates in racks instead of stackng the plates. More places should do this.

Nice shopping trip! I've used the vintage slack hangers to hold and hang vintage paintings on paper. Would be cute to hold children's paintings as well.

Ps. My suggestion was for solid brass. If it's plated the rust may have corroded the brass plate away all together and in that case it probably would leave a difference metal color in that spot even if you get the rust off.

That is so interesting because a couple of other people said the same thing! I'm definitely going to keep my eye out for similar things. My thoughts on it may have been that there is not a great appeal for southwestern art in Canada - but of course there is a lot in the States. Next time I find some I'll give it a shot!

The copper watering can can also be used as a planter for plants that can survive in water.

I sell small pottery vases/ planters still.very fast. I stick with white or real artisan . Natural looking pottery and shapes that mimics those selling at high end stores.

Great idea and I feel like that's maybe where I've gone wrong with the studio pottery I've picked up, it's maybe too 80's and people want the stuff that looks like Studio McGee now

For brass to clean it use a very fine steel wool. Make sure the package says for brass etc... Bar keepers friend with the steel wool works best.

Bar Keepers Friend works great on brass, and many other metals. Keep those bookends they are stunning!

I worked as a housekeeper for a very long time in a private residence filled with many silver and brass items, which I had to polish every week. The lady of the house insisted that I use Brasso for silver and brass. I found it to take care of the tarnish and most rust spots on items. Be aware though, you must use gloves and be in a well ventilated area when using those cleansers as the fumes are very strong. The only thing that I disliked aside from how they smelled or did a number on your hands, was that items tended to tarnish very quickly again. There also was another cleanser that I used called Twinkle for brass and silver, but I find those hard to come by. Those were more of a cream and had a less harsher smell, as well as items were slower to tarnish with those but as I said, I cant seem to find them in stores as much.

If you're buying to sell...that Jill Walker print of the boats in Bridgetown is likely worth good money. The other print was probably of interest as well. Signed prints, especially numbered ones...not a bad idea to search a bit and make sure you're not leaving something special behind.

It's funny because when I saw it I knew it looked like good quality, just couldn't see past the matting unfortunately. Maybe I'll take a quick trip down to the store later to see if it's still there. My favorite art was the pair of small ones. The tall coffee/tea pot probably had another handle for holding while pouring.that bail handle alone is kind of unstable. Anyway you're doing great.only a few I like to watch in a Goodwill haul and you're much better at it than most .thank you ❤

Carved boxes sell and also laquer boxes. Especially Russian or Asian motif. Also trinket cloisinet pieces sell

Those wood pant hangers can be used as decor. I've seen them with pretty vintage transfers and used to hang a print. I believe it was Mary Yoder, on her site. Those crochet afghans are worth the price because I crochet and yarn for those Chevron blankets is very expensive. Don't pass them up.

Yes it's so hard to pass up the crocheted blankets - I really should pick a couple up and see if they would sell on Etsy. I have a blue and white one in my house that I love (thrifted!) Always admire those who can crochet!!

Do you have a booth somewhere or just sell online? Also, I’ve heard other RU-vid thrifters say they talk through the video in order to not get dinged by Administrators for music violations where you have to pay because the songs were playing in the background and you were not talking over them. Just a suggestion to check out.

I looked into it at one of the antique malls in Calgary (where I live) and they said the waiting list is too long and I'll likely never get a space. Maybe another antique mall one day. Oh heavens, do you know how much stuff from thrift stores end up in dumpsters because they don’t sell?? Tons and tons and there’s still plenty left to go around. We are overrun with “stuff” in this country so don’t fret. If something gets thrown away there will be 10 more pieces to replace it in short order.
