What always gets to me is Tony bluntly saying "yes" to sacrificing his father's soul and memory for a million dollars. His eyes look like he went into a seriously dark place in that moment.
He didn’t sacrifice anything. He was playing the game, saying what he had to say in order to get people to trust him. Not undermining Trish’s loss of her brothers in the slightest but at the end of the day all he did was lie to her in order to save himself, she kind of overreacts in this speech.
I think the real question is would you lie on your father's grace to earn money for your own made family or will you stay loyal to your dad and not go big and bring back money for your family
Trish is the number 1 that I expected from the very beginning. I bet people were expecting Sue Hawk's speech to be number 1, but nobody has ever put such honest feelings into a final tribal council speech. I started crying.
@@charliez077 I can actually agree with you there. I think the difference for me is that Kathy was upset about how they treated her versus Trish being upset with Tony throwing around late family members.
Natalie's victory in Samoa has always struck me as one of the most interesting moments in all of Survivor. Many have argued that Russell was robbed, but as Erik says very eloquently, in Survivor "reality is reality"--whoever gets the most votes wins. It may not seem like part of the game, but if you act like a sociopath like Russell did, you may disqualify yourself and that's the way it goes.
In my opinion you should do whatever it takes to get to the end, however unethically it takes. Now for the vote, go ahead and choose the more ethical game, but to reward someone who coasted and was dragged to the end for not being a threat like Natalie simply out of spite has always rubbed me the wrong way.
@@aiyoungboy4484 Natalie said early in the season that her strategy was to buddy up with Russel so he would take all the heat from the people who were blindsided while she would be the social butterfly that she is so when the two of them are at the end they'll vote for her over him because they like her more. And look what happened. According to jurors post season apparently Mick was the favorite to win before final tribal but his performance was terrible so they chose between the person who played the better game but hated and the person who rode his coattails but was nice to them
@@aiyoungboy4484 I somewhat agree that sometimes you have to play that kinda game to get to the end.. but where Russell went wrong (imo) was that, after all the time spent with these people, he couldn't read the room. Especially in samoa.. it was obvious that the jury wasn't going to respond well to him arrogantly "owning it", even if most of what he was saying was true. Everyone has an ego. And he should have known, strategically, when to just humor people and tell them what they want to hear. Todd certainly pissed people off too, but he knew how to play the jury at ftc. Also he didn't hide important tools and burn people clothes, which helps lmao idk I just don't understand why Russell couldn't just master the art of bullshitting. He would have been unstoppable. He may have won 2 seasons in a row.
Other guy should have gotten the votes then. If someone is a goat and they win because they're unnoteworthy, it's bullshit. Erik is doing everything he can to sell her to the jury and give his reasoning for why he's voting for her beyond being bitter and the best he can say is "she's humble" which may as well mean "she wasn't relevant in the least and you could remove her from the game and nothing would change."
And why hasn't Trish returned? Easily one of the best modern Survivors to watch, and her speech just proved it. Kind of surprised Erik hasn't returned either.
Players who are too moralistic would be manipulated by others in Survivor ... they are kind of boring to watch because they're not there to play the game ...as entertaining as their bitter jury speeches are ..
Probably because a lot of people wouldn't watch if she did. She always took things too personal for no reason other then to be a bitch. As for Erik, as good as his jury speech was, it's pretty much the only good thing he's known for. The only other thing I remember about him is that Natalie got him blindsided with an idol in his pocket.
I will Always ALWAYS give major props to Erik for putting Russel in his place. You don't put people down, humiliate them, call them dumbasses, treat them like complete utter garbage, and then turn around and expect those same people you treated no better than trash to reward you a million dollars just because you played a good game of Survivor. Life does not work like that.
Hope that Russell sees this someday. And all those casual fans who are still saying in the forums, Facebook or other thing saying that Natalie didnt deserve to win, see this too. Is like someone bullied you for 39 days, he won't give you any vote no matter your game
Roger Towny Jr. Sad thing is fans used to not think like this, Russell not winning changed the perception that only the player who played the hardest deserved to win and anyone else was undeserving. All because of Samoa’s shit edit.
@@a.jdeets5527 It's always relative to me. Most of the time, I am a huge defender that whoever played the best game should earn the title Sole Survivor. To this day have still not got over Aubey not winning Kao Rong, because of Jason, Scott, and Debbie all behaving like immature assholes. But in the case of Russell Hantz, it is a very drastic exception. If Aubrey was as deplorable a human being as Russell and treated people just as inhumane, than maybe I would understand Michelle winning over her. But she wasn't. The jury was just bitter that she won Tai over to her side and outplayed them.
Roger Towny Jr. Aubry didn’t have a good social game, she barely talked to Scot and Jason. Plus voting out Debbie was a bad move for her, it was great for Cydney though.
@@a.jdeets5527 Scott and Jason weren't exactly very welcoming themselves. Both of them behaved like immature jocks the whole season. Debbie is quite possibly the most unstable and irrational person to play the game since Philip Shepard. Aubrey didn't have the best social skills, but she was by no means a Russell-level deplorable person her bitter jury percieved her to be. She busted her ass the entire game, and made it to the end despite losing two that's right TWO of her best allies through medi-vacuation. Had Joe not gotten medi-vacked, Aubrey has the numbers to make sure Michelle gets voted off before the final 5, and she is in the final 3 with Tai and Joe. There is no stretch of the imagination you tell me she doesn't win that scenario.
Cam Quintin A bitter jury or a smart jury? I admit that Russell played the the best ‘strategic’ game on Samoa, but Natalie really did play Russell on a more subtle way. She made genuine connections on most of the merged tribe members with Russell being completely blind about it. With that blindness came the final fatal mistake Russell did, thinking Natalie was and I quote you “a coattail rider” aka. a GOAT; and taking her to the end. Natalie’s whole game was pretty much an unintentionally elaborate jury management, in which Russell didn’t have because he was busy ‘outplaying’ the outcasts. That was also his fatal flaw in HvV, thinking that bringing two previous winners will automatically make the jury vote for him to win.
Cam Quintin if Natalie hadn’t orchestrated Erik’s blindside, Foa Foa would’ve most definitely been jury members 1 2 3 and 4. You can say Natalie didn’t deserve it but she understood the game and Russell doesn’t care about the jury phase. That’s his biggest downfall as well as his arrogance and ignorant attitude.
1. LOVE the thumbnail. I started dying laughing, because it was too wonderful. 2. Trish’s speech... oh Lordy, always hurts my heart because she’s such a sweet and crazy lady with a big heart. She needs to come back at least one more time. Great lady. 3. Kass patting Trish on the back?!?! I am impressed! I know Kass didn’t like Trish much towards the end of the game, so kudos to Kass for being there for Trish.
Supposedly what didn’t make air was that Eliza savaged Amanda and Parvati as dumb bimbos that know nothing about anything that matters. I think she asked them each to name a US senator and neither could
Seeing this video list, I am led to question what defines 'memorable'. The reason I ask this is because there were a few speech's on the list that I've completely forgotten (Jerri's in 'The Australian Outback' stands out) and a few speeches that weren't on this list that I remember quite well.
I don't really remember anything other than her saying she wanted to kill herself when listening to Amanda lol. I thnk Natalie and Ozzy's speeches overshadowed hers because they were so cringe lol.
Tony. When I first showed up, you and I, first day, became the best of buddies and we were on the bottom of the alliance. Instant friends and you know what? We started to share intimate stories. Now you sit here now, and you would not be sitting there if I didn't have a big part, in it, because nobody here... ever... for one second trusted you. They trusted me, and I had to convince them all to trust me to trust you, and I spent the entire game putting out little flames for Tony, so you could sit there. And you came to me in your paranoia and you said (imitates Tony's voice and facial expressions when he's flustered): "ahh, ahh, I'm telling you man, I'm telling you, knew it, somethings going wrong here..." (stops imitating tony) I said, Tony, take a chill pill. Relax. I'm here for you. I'm never going to leave you and you said "I need to know that for a fact." I said, well don't be swearing on your mother and your kid, you've already done that for everybody else, find something different. You looked right at me and you said to me (voice trembles) "I will swear on my father's grave." I've lost two siblings, and those two losses (tearing up) have put two holes in my heart that could never, ever be repaired. I would never... EVER...EVER... would have gone back on the promise of my brothers. Not today, not tomorrow, not for a hundred million dollars. Not for anything. I have one million dollar question for you that I want you to answer to your mother, to your wife Marissa, to your daughter Anistasia. Was it worth it to you, for a million dollars, to sacrifice your own father to get you here. Was that worth it to you? I asked you a question. I don't want excuses. I'm saying to you haht to haht, friend to friend, human being to human being, answer the question. Is it worth it to you, to be here, to play a game for a million dollars, on your father's soul and memory. Yes or no. It's a million dollar question.
From a narrative, dramatic pov Sue's speech is truly iconic but with the context she's highly hypocrite. Sue was outplayed by Kelly and she was not having it. Gervase summed up pretty well in his reasons for voting for Kelly.
Wow, Trish’s speech is hands down the most heartfelt and damning confrontations I have seen on survivor. I felt it was executed with heart, integrity, and controlled fury. Her indictment of Tony even elicited a consoling hand of respect from Kass, which despite their enmity with each other, you could not help but be moved by her Jury speech!
I love Trish's statements. But truly, its weird how listening to that I felt sad for another reason - its really not Tony's fault that she didn't put herself first. She essentially won him the game socially (not to take away from what he did, but she was pivotal).
If "Most Memorable" is the criteria, Sue Hawk's speech is far and away the most. It probably is the most memorable moment in all of Survivor history and watched by over 51 million people.
My favorite part of Sue’s speech is when she gets off on a tangent about a challenge, like she’s just listing things about Kelly she didn’t like: “You sucked on that game. Anyway…”
at first i thought sue’s snakes and rats speech was iconic but after ive watched it a few times it still is iconic but very hypocritical of her. like gervase said in his confessional, sue had no problems doing all of that stuff when she was on top but only did once she lost. what kelly did to sue wasnt even that bad compared to what people do nowadays in survivor. if anyones a loser in life its sue for that speech alone.
+crapolaist It was great that Sugar jumped up topless, won the challenge, and then shot Sandra the double birdies. It's a great moment in Survivor history. I have it archived and watch it from time to time.
Honestly, I totally agree with Trish being #1. I would've said Sue originally, but having watched them back to back, I totally agree. Trish was full of raw emotion, Sue clearly just had none
Trish's speech in number 1 ultimately sealed Cagayan as one of the best seasons in Survivor history. The top tiers: Micronesia, Heroes vs Villains & Cagayan.
Nobody really did a good job of putting Dreamz in his place though. Somebody should've gone up there and told Dreamz to go back to using his real name after singlehandedly crushing the dreams of no less than four other people on that jury. The dude was so bad at the game he didn't even realize how bad he was.
Erick-love of my life this speech is Soo-a forever top ten speech, I just wish we had more viable options/speeches of this caliber, could spice these kind of lists up Trish-same as Soo's speech
Man Jeff is at every tribal council, how can he withstand these emotions live in front of him. I am already crying here even tho i watched this video a lot of times
Sue Hawk doesn't even give a crap about anyone at all except for herself. Also she actually said that doesn't even care if the other woman dies of thirst at all and she basically wants the other person to die for real and not have any remorse about it and laugh when someone dies because she doesn't care about anything or anyone
Rob Thompson But the thing was that Tony was going to win anyway, so Spencer had some effect, but not too significant. However with Erik’s case, it wasn’t too set in stone that Natalie was going to win, evident with the Survivor community’s reaction lmao xD
I’m gonna try and get this brief but I don’t need anything from you. Mick. Day 1, you had a leadership necklace around your neck, and I would go 39 days, struggling to find out why you deserve that title. And you did nothing. You did nothing with your team. You did nothing to encourage them. Nobody on that team had any guts. And your responsible for that. Russell. This hurts me. We had nothing in common. You played a non-ethical game, ADMITTEDLY played an non-ethical game. And the crazy thing about it is. Your sitting there, and I’m standing here. And did you get to the place your in by behaving the right way? I’ve never been in a situation in my life where that’s the case. But YOU sit there proud of it. Natalie. People will call you weak. People will say your undeserving. But you know what? Why are any of those characteristics any less “admirable” than lying, cheating, and stealing? Why does he get a free pass? But why does your “wrong way of playing” get demolished? And there’s one thing that I learned in this game, it’s that PERCEPTION IS NOT REALITY. REALITY IS REALITY, and your sitting there and that makes just as dangerous as any of those guys there. You would say that your the least deserving of the title of Sole Survivor. But maybe, just maybe, in an environment filled with ARROGANCE. DELUSIONAL ENTITLEMENT. Maybe the person who thinks that she’s least deserving, is probably the most. You’ve got my vote, I hope you get 4 more. Congratulations.
Can I just say Sue was super bitter and did the same thing as Kelly yet blamed her for being a liar or whatever? Also calling Rich ‘a loser in life’. She is pathetic and a bully. Kelly won 4 individual immunities so calling her physical game weak is idiotic (although apparently she cheated). Sue was part of the ‘unethical’ alliance, and they were the ones who tried to backstab Kelly before they reached the final four. If it wasn’t for her immunity run she would’ve been gone over Sue. She expected Kelly to be willing to draw rocks just to save her? Hell no. Kelly made the right move, but I guess this was season 1 so I can forgive it a little in terms of not trying to make to many waves as opposed to trying to make big moves. Sue should not have blamed her considering she tried to get her first. She is extremely vindictive and unlikeable although I’m really glad Richard won. She simply couldn’t hack the fact that people beat her, physically and strategically, ala Kelly and Richard, and decided she’d just call them names. Gervase actually mentions when voting for Kelly to win that Sue did the exact same thing to everyone else and was a huge hypocrite. Then the quit in All Stars ugh get off my screen. Trish’s one hurts to watch. I feel for her so much. Tony really should’ve spilt the money with her considering how much damage control she did. Even Kass consoled her, the same woman who gave Trish the middle finger as she walked out. Wow.
alec zavala In a podcast with Jenna Lewis, apparently Kelly... let’s just say ‘bribed’ some production and got food (I think protein bars) which would’ve helped her out in some of those challenges.
I know this is a small detail of your comment, but I don't like how you minimize Richard's sexual assault on Sue. I can only imagine how traumatizing it would be to have someone rub their genitalia on my body for a cheap laugh.
Erik's speech is legit emotional and I love it. Sue Hawk should be lower I think. She was just a bitter hypocite overexaggerating, like cmon she would give Kelley water in the desert, her and Kelley were pretty great friends throughout borneo.
Kody Webb being the first season has a lot to do with her speech standing the test of time. It took 14 years for someone (queen Trish) to raise the bar.
Kody Webb She thought of Kelly as a sister out there and compared her to a close friend she lost years ago. Kelly screwed her over in the end and it hurt her bad. Remember this season was in 2000, where backstabbing people hurt more than it ever did.
This comment is so stupid. Do you not have any appreciation for a storyline of that caliber? Sue's speech is one of the most memorable moments to happen in reality TV history, and it happened all the way back in 2000 where a moment like that when reality TV was growing was HUGE.
You’d think Sue's plea would be the one to win it for Rich, but if you watched the finale, you’d know it had no effect on the vote. Sean and Rudy (and maybe even Greg) were dead set on Rich, Jenna and Gervase were set on Kelly (Gervase even called Sue a sore loser), and Colleen actually switched her vote from Rich to Kelly.
What's even funnier about Sue's Snakes and Rats speech is that it actually made Kelly closer to winning. Richard actually came into the final tribal with a 6-1 lead, but he lost Colleen and Gervase's votes because of the Snakes and Rats speech making them feel bad for Kelly. Gervase even says in his voting confessional that that's the reason, and that Sue was being a sore loser.
I LOVED Cagayan... and when I heard all the speeches... I knew trish’s speech was going down in history But still should’ve made sue number 1... her speech changed the game forever
If I were on survivor, I'm aiming to win but if I'm not in the final 2/3, I want to be in the jury and really tear into someone lmao. I'd love to be in compilation lol
I would probably still put Sue on number 1, but Trish's was an all-time great too.¨ tho I would personally put Kathy's (All-Stars) maybe even above it.
Is Erik the first person to campaign for a winner with their speech? Also his seemed so sincere. David and Spencer’s would make me vote for someone else out of spite lol
Erik was the merge boot yet he all of sudden knew everything about the game. It’s almost like he told everything from the people that Russell voted out
Shii Ann should be on the list. "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" "All is fair in love and war and the game of survivor" She just called out on all the tribal jury for being a hypocrite. They all lied and backstabbed each other. Enough with the sobbing stories of getting screwed. Lol.
