I really enjoyed this video. A few years back I was discussing Snuffy with a friend and I mentioned that he was Big Bird’s imaginary friend. She told me that he wasn’t imaginary and was regularly surrounded by the other characters. It turned out that our age difference (of only a few years) meant that we had watched Sesame Street at different points on Snuffy’s timeline.

Snuffy's original design definitely made him seem more like an imaginary being, and was...different to say the least...long story short, I no longer feel justified of being scared of the "new" Snuffy as a kid.

As a huge Muppet, Henson, and Sesame geek, I enjoyed this video and can’t wait for the other parts. It’s been confirmed that several of these retired characters, including Roosevelt Franklin, Biff and Sully, Betty Lou, Forgetful Jones, Hoots the Owl, and even Lefty the Salesman will appear to some capacity in the 50th Anniversary Special, so I can’t wait for that. Curiously, Matt Vogel also listed Biff and Forgetful under his list of characters on his website, so I wonder if that means they will have their first speaking roles in decades in the special. EDIT: I learned from the second part that Forgetful DID have a speaking role earlier this year from Matt Vogel, and afterwards found out that Lefty along with Don Music came back at this year's Comic Con both performed by Ryan Dillon.

I grew up with the original Sesame Street from its start and into the 1970's, at whatever point I started to outgrow Sesame Street. When the Muppet Show came along, I was around preteen to teen. -- Back in the day, I was a big fan of ol' Grover and Snuffleupagus, as well as Kermit. -- You may not know it, but Mr. Rogers made a guest appearance on Sesame Street at least once, to talk about "pretending," and had his own adventure with Big Bird and (maybe) Snuffleupagus. -- Isn't it funny how eventually, we grow up enough to realize we were silly to have "outgrown" all those things we loved when we were kids, or even teens? Sesame Street and the Muppets were and are seriously cool, and Mr. Rogers was extraordinary in a way I'm not sure will ever happen again. For the little kid I was, I am very glad there was a Mr. Rogers on TV to tell me I was OK just the way I was, not just to hear it from my family or a few friends.

On Chicago: "-he appeared most frequently in the early to mid 90s." In other words, just before Between the Lions. Which was created by mostly (if not entirely) former alumni of Sesame Street, in the same style of Sesame Street, for the purpose of following Sesame Street, to target students of an age beyond the target audience of Sesame Street. Coincidentally, some of the footage you found of Chicago the Lion has him in a library. . . So I would wager there is your answer for why Chicago stopped appearing: He was redundant.

On the top of my list is Forgetful Jones. Being forgetful is funny, but isn’t a very endearing quality. So I get why they had to retire that muppet.

Thanks for posting these videos "Colin LooksBack"!! I've watched ALL THREE OF THEM and I was surprised on how many muppets I remembered. There were some I was a little surprised about like the DIFFERENT monsters with "Cookie Monster" during the first season. I remembered them just a little bit in a book I read about as a kid, but I didn't really pay any attention of what they REALLY looked like which of course is normal for children. Of course I DO REMEMBER "Alice!!" She DEFINITELY was a little sweetheart and SOOOO VERY CUTE!! Plus I LOVED "Captain Vegetable"...since I LOVE vegetables. That was a GREAT way to teach kids how to eat healthy!! This is a GREAT way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Sesame Street" so THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!! I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS A LOT!!

I first started watching sesame Street in 1977. I still remember as a kid watching hairy monster with a bag of apples giving to kids apples and all three eating the apples the Muppet creators were geniuses to make it look like Harry really was biting the Appleit's one of the earliest I can remember watching sesame Street is a kid I'm surprised I still can remember that.

Alice was on a recent episode I just watched with my daughter! At least, I think I was watching the new episodes. Maybe I had it set to an earlier season. Now it’s going to bother me, I have to investigate, because I remember literally just watching her. It’s amazing you went through all these muppets, there are SO many! At first I was like how can there be THIS many retired muppets? 😂

2 skits of a character doesn't really make him or her a supporting/recurring character. Also the last time The Oinker Sisters appeared was in Season 39, which was a decade ago.

Don Music was banned from rerunning because parents send CTW complaints about their kids hitting their heads at home. Harvey Kneeslapper was banned for 2 reasons, 1 was his loud laughter hurted Frank Oz's vocal cord, The other reason was, He was only good for that one joke.
@BuddyBoy600alt
@BuddyBoy600alt 4 года назад
@@stevefan69 Don Music was a Sesame Street Muppet character. frustrated composer who can't think of a rhyme in a song, then throws a tantrum and ends up hitting his head on the piano keys. He used to be on Sesame Street news where Kermit the Frog would report Don Music on a new song. And make suggestion. For example "Mary Had A Little Lamb" was changed to "Mary Had A Bicycle".

I definitely remember Betty Lou by looking at Sesame Street merchandise books my family has from the 1970s. In some of the '70s books Betty Lou's a bit more of a tomboy to contrast the prim-and-proper Prairie Dawn. I didn't actually know Prairie Dawn was revived in the 90s as a doll-lover, thank you for enlightening me on that! :D
