50 Things WRONG With Pokemon Diamond Pearl and Platinum (Generation 4) 

*UPDATE: I retract my statement on Gen 4's soundtrack. Looking back at it now I guess it had been awhile since I played Gen 4 so I forgot how great the soundtrack was. The Lake music is my favorite. I even use it in my new outro!*

I disagree with #47. This gen had some of the best music in my opinion.

These games had a lot of technical problems since they were the first ever Pokemon games on the DS. Like slow battle pacing. This isn't meant to bash on the games, as you all know I love them. Just to take a look at some of the things I thought were the worst parts. Hopefully I didn't make any big mistakes this time! #lopunnyisgen4

Not many memorable music tracks? Haha that's a lie.

Battling is slow in games, and you will never notice until you use speed modes on emulation. And let me tell you, 99% of the time why I don't battle online is FC's.

The only complain I have is that the battle animations were too long. Other than that Gen 4 was just amazing! Platinum was my first Pokemon game and it will always be my favorite.

Most of the slow pacing was fixed in Platinum, it fact MOST problems were fixed in Platinum.

it's funny but 34 is wrong, they are not there to take over the world, they want to recreate the entire universe and ruled that so yeah, designs not too great but greatest evil boss ever

Um, I just wanna say that Rocket and Galactic's desires are different in fact. Rocket desires for control and power over Mewtwo and Galactic wanted to destroy the world and make a new world, free of war.

I can't believe you did not include the heavy HM dependency, which made you hold several HMs on you at all times, mostly useless ones like Cut, Rock Smash or Defog.

4th gen is my favorite region

I love Gen 4. The music, the Pokémon designs, the layout of the region, the gym battles. Diamond and Pearl did have some glaring technical problems, but platinum sorted most of them out and improved the game even more.

The lack of fire types was my absolute least favorite thing about Gen 4. If you didn't pick Chimchar as your starter, you had to use Ponyta as your Fire-type or not have a Fire-type at all. The only other new Gen 4 non-legendary Fire-type was Magmortar.

UHH NO. team galactic was the best villanous team to come out. they were far more intimidating (the leaders of course, no henchmen from ANY team were intimidating) and they had the deepest goals. team rocket was just out for money and pokemon, team magma/aqua had stupid goals. and team plasma wanted to "free" all pokemon by using their slaved pokemon against you.

Ugghh, I thought it was just me!! I Really hated D&P and don't really get everyone's desperation for a remake. The 8 HMs pissed me right off, even though most pokefans claim to hate HMs.. I mean, Defog... Really?! Game was too slow and pretty bland and I Hated the pokemon too.

sorry, did you say Duskballs were done "wrong"? nononono, Dusk balls were one of the best things to be introduced to the game alongside Quickballs.

IMO Barry was intimidating to be because of his ADHD and I always thought he would hit me in the face himself, All the legendary tracks were very memorable as well as Cynthia's & Cyrus's, all the legendaries made for a larger post game, Cyrus wanted to be god(that's pretty original to me) , Arceus is not god (You (the player) are) and if your Penis looks like that you need a doctor. Badly.

I love Pokemon platinum, it was one of the first Nintendo games I remember playing!

gen 4 was easily the best for me, but i do have to admit that the battle scenes are soooooo fucking slow, everytime i try to play it again it's so annoying to have to battle random trainers or wild pokémon. i also was never fond of wifi services because they never seemed to work properly.

I love Gen 4. Sinnoh is still my favorite region. Loved the underground too. I lost track of how much time I spent down there, digging for treasure and getting pumped with each evolutionary stone, fossil or rare item. The easy access to those stones really helped me out later since in HG and SS, I found it quite a pain to get them

Ah, yes, the FEAR strategy. That's still an amusing strategy even in Gen 6, especially considering how many Pokémon can actually abuse it. Also, if by "personality", you mean "being a massive annoyance who doesn't ever leave you alone" then yes, Barry's got a _ton_ of it. Gods, I hate Barry.

Maybe it's nostalgia, but I loved this game! I actually never found any flaws to it, maybe because I was pretty young. I remember my Piplup that I stupidly named Waterton and my millions of Woopers and Bibarels. I actually liked Barry and I found him more as a friend and more like friendly competition. The Pokemon contests were actually really entertaining for a child like me at the time, and that's what Pokemon was made for. I wish I was younger and had that bliss of opening my sister's DSI and playing my Pokemon Platinum. I didn't care where I played it, hell I remember evolving Waterton on my kitchen carpet, I just loved the game. I especially miss the excitement I got when I saw a Gible for the first time or when I finally got a fossil. Heck, I named my rival after a guy I used to hate at the time. I even remember my sis using my Master Ball to catch a Ralts just to please me or when she thought she found a glitch Pokemon but it was actually a Nosepass! But now I'm older, I won't get that initial shock. But that's okay, because memories will only be memories and that's all that matters :D

Gen 4 hasn't aged well, replaying Pearl wasn't fun. Slow, very slow.

technically speaking team galactic had a different goal to the previous evil teams. cyrus didn't want to rule the world, he wanted to destroy the whole universe and recreate it to his own design of a perfect world where spirit doesn't exist. slightly different

Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, woah! Team Galactic was an awesome team, they weren't trying to take over the world, they were going to destroy it and make a new one. Cyrus saw how peoples emotions get the better of them and causes them to start conflict with other people, and causes them to procrastinate in their lives, which is very true. So he wanted to create a new world without emotions, even though yes emotions have their pros and cons in the success of human beings, who knows really if we'd be better off without them. He has a pretty viable reason to be a villain, and is my favorite of the series, in fact he's my favorite character of the series, and I really hope he returns, he even says he will at the end of the game. (Fingers crossed for gen 4 sequel rather than a remake, CAUSE I'M SO SICK OF THESE FREAKING REMAKES) Not only that, but one thing Cyrus has that no other villain has (unless you consider N and AZ villains) is a backstory. As a child his parents forced him to do nothing but focus on his education, to get away from the stress, in his free time he tinkered with machines, he never made friends in school and preceded to be with the machines (you can learn this by not being lazy and reading NPC dialogue). Obviously from this knowledge we can conclude that since he had little emotions and no attachments growing up, he found emotions useless considering he clearly did the best in school compared to the other students. So he basically became a machine. And because all he did was gain knowledge he learned of the Sinnoh myth and tried putting it to the test so he could make his "perfect" world. BAM AWESOME VILLAIN! Also, I found a lot of characters memorable and gen 4 has my favorite music. Also I didn't even notice the slower animation, honestly every pokemon game moves pretty slow. So people really need to shut up about that one. Anyway, you do have some good points in there, even though this is my favorite gen, an unbiased opinion maker knows everything you like has its faults. But I'm still a gen 4 fan because GEN 4 THE WIN! (puns...)

My first Pokémon game :')

Gen 4 was my fav, and i started from gen 1. Tell me how accomplished you guys felt crossing the route from stark mountain to snowpoint city ? Rough snowtorm, hail mocking non ice pokes in battle, some people finally got glaceon while there. Gen 4 is love, gen 4 is life!

Catching a munchalx was sooooo hard as you had to slather honey on trees and go back the next day and they’d only appear on certain trees and have a very low catch rate

I personally really like this generation. I agree with the issues but I think the reason I love it so much is because it was the first Pokémon game I ever played. Though I think all of the generations have their ups and downs.

I just bought the game and I love it. I have never had a 4th gen game so I decided to buy Platnium. My only problem is that the game is quite slow … I might just be awful at previous games or something, but it took me 6 hours to get to Gardenia's gym and she is the second gym leader

ALL of these are false complaints. The battles are not slow, your rival is YOUR FRIEND, Team Galactic is very cool, better than any other team, but I do agree on slow save and Surf, but still. Get evidence. More of it. I'm not convinced. At all.

This is gonna be an unpopular opinion, but i honestly loved the haunter trade with Mindy. I just saw it as a harmless prank by the developers and not at all a mean trick. Plus you could always trade someone else for the gengar so i never really got the hate. You still get a decent mon nonetheless, and medicham isn't even that rare

#34 Was technically recreating the whole universe and altering reality into the image of its leader who was gonna play God. He's even considered one of the better villains.

This was my favorite Gen cause it brought me back into playing it again after a few years. its just special to me in a way :)

To be honest, next to gen 3, gen 4 is one of my favorites. I like the new evolution's that they made, mostly Electivier, Gallade, and others, and the legendaries are what really got me going because I actually get to DO something before i say screw it and start my back breaking task of breeding. I mean, adding Arceus was one thing that pretty much ended their ideas of...*ahem*..."GOOD" Pokemon Not saying Gen 5 didn't have good Pokemon...Trubish and Vanilite -_-. Gen 4 didnt have the trumpets like we enjoyed in gen 3, but i can still remember good tracks from gen 4. Like legendaries battle theme, or various routes. I understand gen 4 did have problems but its not the worst.

Like everyone has a starter.... During my recent play through I counted about 4 Piplups and 3 from the Chimchar line... Also some from the Turtwig line. NPCs, including the elite 4, had a starter! Your starter is supposed to be a rare Pokemon given to you by the professor (in the games in general) but it's like everyone went to Professor Rowan to get a starter. And most of them had moves before they should have them. Other than that, many NPCs, like you mentioned in Everything Wrong with Gen 2, had Pokemon at levels before they could be obtained. (Ex. Some of the Galactic grunts had the Stunky line evolved before they should be.)

One thing that I never understood... The 5 stat trainers. Cheryl, the health main, Mira, the Special Attack Main, Riley, the Attack Main, Marley, the Speed Main, and Bucky, the Special Defense Main. I literally saw no need for these Characters to be here.

It introduced Pokemon Personalities which came with even more unwanted Pokemon traits. Also, until Platinum it was actually confusing to know how to advance. Past that you pretty much covered everything in the 4th gen that makes me like it the least.

Some things I just don't get about this video. How is a couple of parents complaining about lopunny a thing that's wrong with the games? Seems more like a thing wrong with the parents. Another one is how gen 4 only introduced 107 new pokemon, while gen 2 introduced only 100. Some gens just don't add as many new pokemon as others. That being said, there are also a lot of things I agree with, even though gen 4 is my favourite gen. All in all it just feels like you had some good and legit complaints and made up some extra ones in there just to get the total up to 50.

Correction, Team Galactic wanted to demolish the whole universe and create a new one without any emotion. A lot worse than taking over the world. Strangely enough, Underground is my one of my favorite parts of the DPPT games. I didn't give a damn about the spheres but I loved finding the treasures like the Plates, fossils, stones, heart scales, I'm not sure why. I liked mining. XD Anyway, Generation 4 is my favorite one. It introduced me to Pokemon and brings back a lot of good memories.

Brandon, I love your videos, but you got me fucked up about #47. I'm sorry but you do got me like that. In my opinion, Gen 4's music surpasses Gen 5's and Gen 3's. With Jubilife City, Sunyshore City, the Lake theme, Routte 225, Route 216, Route 228, Canalave City, and even the hometown, Twinleaf Town. But I respect your opinion, but it just breaks my heart that you think that the soundtrack is terrible.

I liked the number of legendaries and new Sinnoh evolutions, but everything else was on point and kind of funny. 😂

Not all the villains want to take over the world, Team Aqua wants to expand the sea, Team Magma wants to expand the land, and Team Flare wants to kill everything.

Yes the battle felt kinda slow in Gen 4 but its still awesome. Great music, good designs (Just look at Darkrai. Dayum he looks good), decent story and the elite 4 are a challenge.

I'm sorry but most of this was just nitpicking rather than actual problems.

Ok. I wanted to get a better understanding of the 4th Gen, since I couldn't understand why so many people like it so much. I played Diamond, and it LOVE IT SO MUCH.. I consider it to be my 2nd fav region. Everything about it is so cool, and I get it why the titles are a bit dark and to be taken seriously. The region itself is mysterious, and has a lot of LORE within the legendaries. I like most of the past evolutions getting an upgrade: Electrivire is my favorite, I also adore Weavile, Gallade, Magnezone, Porygon Z, Togekiss. I LOVE Dialga for many good reasons: it's typing. Along with Heatran FOR LEGENDARIES, it has the most resistances out of all the legendaries. In a battle against Palkia and Giratina, Dialga is most likely to win. It's blue, which is my favorite color, and the concept of being the master of time really gets to me. I like Giratina too. I admit Spacial Rend has a better animation and more useable than Roar of time (I thought its animation was a more crazed version of hyper beam, shown by the one it used in the movies), but I still love Dialga nevertheless. I love their themes, as it's much fitting for the gods of time and space. The distortion world is the #1 place I would visit anytime. It's very cool, with the aspect of riding up a waterfall. Team Galactic imo now, is the most feared teams to face, and Cyrus is NOT A JOKE. I now like how he wanted to create a new universe without spirit or emotion, even betrayed his WHOLE team just for him to be the God there. But if he making a universe full of matter, there HAS to be antimatter too. He can't possibly create anther Giratina for his use.... would he? And the champion we all know and love.. Cynthia.. tied or even above Steven. She is the hardest champion of all the games.. even though I haven't faced her myself yet, I can tell she's very hard to beat, and a bit cute myself, lol. IMO, I think the creation trio should be the strongest legendary pokemon out there. They literally applied the most important aspects of the pokemon universe ever: Time, space, and antimatter, possibly better than sea, land, and sky. It disturbs me a bit why Dialga and Palkia don't have unique abilities of their own other than the generic "Pressure", considering they're "Deities". I'm 50/50 when it comes to them getting new forms. I feel like they should be stronger than Primal Groudon and Kyogre, but yet, they're gods and they both would be stronger than Giratina.. unless they're stats swap like Giratina does. We never visited Dialga's temporal dimension nor Palkia's spacial dimension before. Like the distortion world, they changed forms there? Also, with Arceus, it still should be stronger than Mega evolution and Primal Reversion, but yet still feel the same. It's the true God, so I can't see that losing any power. But maybe if you put ALL the plates on Arceus, it'll have a form where it had the "Thousand arms" . And I love the starters there more then the rest, (even though I love Sceptile) I like the concept for them, and even though I like Infernape better, it is the REAL fire/fighting type in my eyes. Empoleon has an interesting typing, and Torterra is like a sidekick to Groudon.Ah, and the soundtrack is outstanding too! I never had a main issue with the slow gameplay , and 4th Gen was the saviour to the main pokemon franchise and split the physical/special aspects of moves, no wonder why it sold a lot more than the other games. Without that, competitive battling would be confusing.. Oh well, Sinnoh itself is an amazing region and has many mysterious I'd like to know, so I'm very interested to see Diamond and Pearl remakes coming very soon in the future to further explain all the mysteries, and make MANY people who have been playing it since their childhood happy, and making newcomers (like me) to see what the vast region is all about (Hope to god to get a MEGA INFERNAPE, MEGA LUXRAY to become Electric/Dark, and A MEGA ELECTEIVIRE being ELECTRIC/DARK)

I really think you should've excluded every problem that wasn't gen 4 exclusive, like the wifi, unfair gts trades, TM's disappearing, the weak endeavor trick, unoriginal enemies, people blocking your way, the rod explanations, pokemon on lower levels than they evolve at, wild pokemon learning moves they shouldn't know yet, . That and the music being bad is just opinion, especially when most people believe this game has the best soundtrack. Also the protagonists in this game are presumably 12, not 10

I honestly say gen 4 was the worst gen, they were not terrible mind you, but just kinda disappointing.

1 problem: You could sell things you needed to get legendary pokemons. I accidentally sold that thing (i dont remember the name) you needed to get palkia or dialga (or the penishead XD) So i had to start ALL over again to catch 'em all. Rest in pepperoni level 147 Torterra :-(

Dusk balls were actually one of the better features along with quick balls expecially trying after those roaming legendaries wasting 40+ ultra or great balls to catch one

I loved the video, but I think that Gen 4 has many memorable music tracks and I'm pretty sure that Team Galactic actually wanted to make their own world instead of taking over the preexisting one. I mean, that's why Cyrus went to the Distortion World in Pokemon Platinum.

Out of all the Team Galactic grunts, there's one I remember. The guy you chase in Pastoria City. I laughed extensively harder than I should've when I found him all the way in Mt. Coronet.

The Quick Ball had a x6 or x8 modifier if used at the beginning of battle, so the Dusk Ball was not really OP. There was also the Timer Ball that could have easily gotten past that x4 modifier, and had a cap at x6 or x8. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Pokémon exclusive roster. I understand that some were suppose to be harder than others,and it is to encourage trading with friends, (lolwut) but in my version of Pearl, I got tired of actually seeing Gible, since they were so abundant. I got Platinum about a year ago, and I had to trade in with my brother who had Diamond, which was still unreasonably difficult to get. Pretty interesting to see what you didn't like, though. I agree with the slow text speed, however. That's why I changed my playstyle to SET, and text speed on the fastest.

to capture a pokemon who flees i invented a technique when i was a kid in pkmn rubi first fly to two regions appart from the location of the fleeing pokemon then you gotta go on foot to the actual location he will not flee then if he is lvl 50 for exemple put a pokemon who attacks first and has a hm to prevent flee use repel on the grass and you will automaticly find him then catch the mofo

What are you talking about? These games had the best pokemon music, my favorite is Route 209.

Most of my issue with Gen 4 are due to a lot of shortcomings in Diamond and Pearl (little variety in Pokemon, lacks imagination, and sudden jumps in levels). HeartGold, SoulSilver, and Platinum were really good (HG and SS are near perfection to me and will be the standard I hold for future installments in terms of gameplay).
