It was 50 years ago that Houston Intercontinental Airport welcomed the first official commercial flight to the new airport in Houston. The airport wasn't renamed George Bush Intercontinental Airport until 1997.

Why weren't all the photos in color? In 1969, all photos our family has were in color. If it were the 50s, not all.

Most photojournalist styles shots (including PR work) of the era were still shot on B&W film. As a matter of fact, most newspapers did not fully adopt color film until the mid-80s, when the cost of processing had dropped to a profitable level and printer technology was far more advanced. USA Today was the first newspaper to begin using color film on a regular basis.
