Welcome back! Today's tour is the second episode of our Meet The Gardener/Farmer Series. I thought what better farm to visit then Swan Island Dahlias! Last year we toured their farm and it only made sense to come back again to this magical place. We are also talking to one of the team members who's family owns the farm. I know this is a year old but I just stumbled upon it and I just wanted to leave a comment and hope you see it. This was a fantastic video. Great questions, great answers, and the tour was awesome! I have never been able to make it to Swan island, but your video was almost as good as being there.

@@InTheGardenWithClaudia Not all of my dahlias have bloomed yet so each one that blooms for the first time is my favorites for the day! I do love the large white blooms of "Fleural" a lot however. I immediately placed an order from Swan Island after viewing the tour and got "Mikayla Miranda" plus quite a few more with the free shipping on $75 or more, 10% off and a free dahlia. What a deal! So excited for next year in my garden!!! Loved the tour. Thank you Claudia

Aww thanks Peggy!! I never intended to be gone for this long. We did take like a week off but then we had major issues with our computer. But I will never take this much time off again, next time if there is an issue with my computer I am just buying a new one LOL.

That is so true, I can’t even tell you how much we spent in film equipment, it’s crazy but in the end worth it. I just got this IMac so I was just frustrated the video card wasn’t working the way it’s supposed to be. Either way, I’m happy Apple helped, hopefully it doesn’t start acting up again. On a happier note, I’m jumping to your channel to catch up, how are things down there?

Im sure your grandma grew some beautiful ones herself. ❤️ A big reason my heart belongs to flowers also stems from my grandma. I feel lucky that I still get to share some of the beauty that we grow ourselves in our garden. She lives in Brazil, but I am still able to walk in the garden and show her everything.

Question about pinching. Does it no delay flowering? I mean in colder climates it might be a problem.

Not really, if so maybe by a couple of weeks. I think if you can get them in the ground earlier it shouldn’t make a difference. In the end, you end up with more blooms and a more robust plant so I think it’s worth it.

Oooh!! That sounds like so much fun! I would make sure to fertilize every 4 weeks or so, with something like Morbloom, and give them a lot of light. Cut blooms back to continue promoting more blooms. Make sure not to over water, dahlias don’t like wet feet, but they also don’t want to go dry.

Hi Annie I’ve never heard of that before. 🤔 I would definitely reach out to them ASAP. I usually have really good response rate when I email them. I don’t think I’ve seen that before so that’s odd. Let me know if there’s anything I can help with but like I said they’re pretty responsive to their emails.

Old post, but maybe it will help someone else in the future. Swan island charges 39.95 for shipping to Canada and there is a $50 phyto agricultural inspection fee required with international shipping. There are loads of canadian tuber sellers that you could order from that wouldn’t have the same ag inspection requirements. You may not get all the variety available at swan island, but you would save on the cost. Another thing you could do is put together a neighborhood dahlia buying group where you could order together and share in those shipping and inspection costs. 🌸
