Excellent choice , good power in a realistic handgun package. I’m totally allergic to the giant frame revolvers. Had a BFR in 475 and JRH both great. Jack Huntingtons Bisley grip is the best designed grip I’ve ever had.
You will appreciate that grip frame, the Ruger Bisley grip eats my knuckle up even in 44 Special when loaded with the Keith load. I have yet to abuse mine with the BFR version even with full tilt 500L. I would however recommend either a good pair of deerskin gloves and size down from what you normally wear or perhaps another set of grip panels as those can get a bit slick in the Alabama heat. The only knock I give them, and it is small , is that I like the wide Ruger SBH hammer. I will admit not enough to go to the trouble of swapping it out though and I also just wear my gloves until I finally break down and get new grip panels. Congratulations on a mighty fine revolver.
When you said you were getting ready to cut down some brass, I was sure you were getting a 475 Linebaugh. Guessed wrong! Looking forward to your adventures with the JRH!
I heard that some package and mail has been farmed out to other delivery companies that isn’t the post office so if that is true I don’t know why they just don’t hire more people
Very nice I have a revolver on layaway I’m very excited about It’s a 50th anniversary Ruger BlackHawk in .44 magnum (1956-2006) comes with the original box, paperwork everything Small side note (when this gun came out I was 6)
Hope you enjoy your new iron! But, in the back of my mind I'm expecting them to come up with 1 caliber revolver any day now. LOL Because we do seem to have a creeping bore enlargement issue in the shooting community. Not complaining mind you, if someone enjoys it, let them have one. I just find the ever increasing bore funny for some reason. Or Taurus to come out with a 3" magnum 12 gauge revolver. "The new Taurus Judge Dredd!!!" LOL
Great...one more thing to think about. Those stocks might be kinda slick for that amount of horsepower, but that's a purely personal preference for sure. It looks good!
Congratulations Plowboy! Very nice looking big bore revolver...I like the style of yours much better than those big old stretched out models you mentioned. Looking forward to seeing the "first dance" video...Take care and stay safe my friend!
Always though the X-frame long cartridges S&W made were only bragging rights, to reclaim a movie line "most powerful handgun in the world." They are impractical, heavy, limited capacity. The .500 JRH shortens that back to a practical length. Personally I think the .454 Casull is peak practical, but it's often punishing in recoil due to pressure. The .480 Ruger and .500 JRH are also practical, but in a bigger bore sense.
Awesome revolver, I got one in 357mag with the long barrel. Its a tack driver and so over built I doubt it will ever wear out even eating nothing but full house loads lol.
That came around quick.. it will be a least 4 months for me if I purchase as I intend too. Already filled you in on that before. Big question for me I'm looking to be answered is will it fit in my ruger holster? I showed off my chest rig earlier. Currently I have one for 7.5" barrel and 10" holster that houses my Walker. Mountain man
This 5.5" doesn't fit in my Triple K leather thumb break holster for my 5.5" Blackhawk ( it's close though ..barrel length seems a tad longer on the BFR) , but I would wager that it would fit in the same holster for a 6.5" Blackhawk. I will order one one day and see
Well, the algorithm led me to this video and I got to say you know your stuff! Not sure about that grip however, but I assume you know what you like best
@tannstang Thanks for the reply. I assume bisley grip. I remember Ross Seyfrieds articles on those years ago. How's the recoil compared to the .454? I have a .454, a .475 bfr, a .460 bfr and an x frame .500. I see Gary Reeder makes a .500 magnum on his own frame that is like a beefed up Ruger. That one makes me jealous. Sad that Mr. Linebaugh passed away. No chance you're from Missouri? I practically dream about running so.eone near me that's into this stuff. Lots of gun people around me but mostly ARs and standard carry stuff. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Oh yeah, I've heard Linebaughs build quality is impeccable. That true?
You're not going to like those grips. I always ditch mine for a set of Chigs custom wood. You'll have to send him the gripframe, but he turns around fast and does excellent work. Also consider the MP 500-640 mold. It's got interchangeable pins for solid, lg hp, sm hp, and penta hp. Great from deer to cape Buffalo
@@plowboysghost yeah, Diffently not carrying that lol, but they do shorten them down if you don’t want the longer but I hear you, only way I’d consider a bushwhacker is if I already had a bfr in 500 magnum then what the hell id do it
Here in Houston mail check theft is big problem. Happens predominately in mail stations staffed by blacks. They white wash check and print new payee and amount. Client of mine got taken for over $200,000 before discovered theft
