strange women love to correct and instruct young mothers in matters relating to their children for whatever reason. It happened to me too.

It’s because you look very young. I have had the same type of interactions. All three of my daughters were doll babies when they were infants. The last two were identical twins. I have had people ask to see one while I was breastfeeding. I have been asked if my children were learning to read. Because they were black so there was no way I was educating them👀. Fun fact. My oldest is a surgeon now. People are ridiculous! I have always been firm and end every response with, “No thank you.” It’s comes with the territory of mothering while black.

Proud of you for standing up to her. Our African moms don’t know boundaries! As a younger woman of African descent I can totally relate. Her companion saying “don’t be angry” actually meant “sorry” without being passive aggressive. It’s just a different way of speaking. That’s how our parents said and still say sorry. I’m glad he said that to you. It’s just a different way of expressing it.

I understand the desire to 'help out' a new mother with advice you think they might not know (not that I'd ever do that ). But I'll never understand pushing for someone, especially a stranger, to obey you once they've already said 'no'.

In African Culture, some African Americans passed this value system down also. It's Respect for elders. On the continent, even if they ( the elder) is wrong you don't argue with them. Mostly just ignore them. Although you are the mother and you know your son, she had good intentions.

love your hair! im 11 months in to my microloc journey, i have about 187 locs and i just found a loctician and he does 4 pt rotation on me but before him i was doing it myself and using a 2 pt rotation...but i want to keep my locs looking full im scared they will end up being too tiny in the long run...how has your experience been?

I don’t think you should have to worry about that with 187! They will keep swelling up over time. Mine didn’t end up their true size until about 2 years in.

The size has been consistent for me with the 4 pt rotation. I know some people use 2 or 3 to keep the fluffiness, but I like the compact, rope look. If you want the fluffy, fuller look for each lock then I would continue with 2 or 3 pt rotation. I haven’t done a ton of research on 2 or 3 long term so just make sure you’re informed. ☺️

Best thing was to walk away as you never know she could’ve have some kind of mental health issues going on. Personally I wouldn’t put my sons hood up inside either, it’s not raining🤷🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

She was culturally & situationally out of place. This time ! In another situation if a child was in danger they would step in. She cared. Takes all types.
