Soft Hackle fly patterns often get overlooked yet are very effective! This is one of my favorites created to represent an emerging caddis nymph. Give it a try!

Not only one of my favorite flies to tie, it’s generally highly productive on the water when trout aren’t taking anything else.

I have started to use more wet style nymphs and jigs. Like the Head work and soft look. 🙌👍🏻🙏

That’s awesome! They work great and are definitely underutilized. I find them pretty relaxing to fish you just cast and wait for the fish to do the work

Very nice - well done fly and presentation. I like the black background, less distracting, and more focused on the fly. The caddis color is deadly... had a 63 fish day in February with a fly just like this without softhackle.

Thanks Ken! Oh yeah I know the pattern you are talking about I fish that without the soft hackle too very deadly midge!

A variation on a green rock worm. It's not a bad thing. It's one of my go-to patterns.

Good point! Tie that hackle backwards and it would work great as one

just getting into fly fishing and trying to learn all the different patterns. Is this a dry or wet fly?
@MainelyFlies

This is a soft hackle much like a wet fly but a bit more modern

Good looking fly but of course old patterns still catch fish. "New" patterns aren't better, just new.
