Nikon's 500mm Telephoto f8 Reflex Mirror Lens is short and POWERFULL. At $200 on eBay,
in great condition, it's a wonderful telephoto lens for your camera bag.
It's a manual focus, F mount, all metal fixed aperture of f8 telephoto lens & made in Japan. It's packed with 6 elements in 6 groups along with 2 mirrors.
It weighs in at one- and three-quarter pounds (794 grams).
Use a high ISO in your digital camera, so you can use a shutter speed of 1/2000th of a second or higher.
The donut shaped bokeh is gorgeous.

Excellent presentation in language that anyone can understand. Looking forward to buying one of these lenses. I’m going to try to email you with a question about using the lens for sports photography. I’m not certain if I will get good results using on moving objects. Thank you for your video.

Just found a pristine Canon version of this and hope to shoot the total eclipse this year. What a golden age we are in when it comes to mirrorless with these vintage and very inexpensive lenses. ✌🏼

I inherited one from a friend with the leather case and it even came with all of the filters. And your totally right these things were not abused, the filters were never used lol. Excited to start using it!

I shoot mine handheld with a shutter speed around 1/3200 sec

I think it would be fun to have one of these. Of course I would mount it on my Olympus E-5 M43 body. Lol..effectively 1000mm focal length. Good advice for somebody who is interested…stick with Nikon!😊

Hi Carmine, a few month ago I purchased the Tamron Adapall SP Mk. II counterpart, also a very nice lens with pretty good image quality. It takes some practice, though. Recently I bought the Novoflex shoulder pod which makes the usage so much easier. Best wishes from nearby Stuttgart, Germany, Ralf

Your video. Was very helpful thank you. Some good tips. I saw these lenses online. I thought they were pretty cool.So I ordered one. I do a lot of hiking and they will fit better in my hiking bag. I will be getting it in a couple days. Right after I ordered It. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews, And I think the ones that are giving a bad review are just using it wrong.😮

It came in today.I love this lens. Some people said it was going to be hard to focus.On not having a problem with that. Some people said the depth of field was too shallow.I disagree i'm getting real artsy wildlife pics with mine. I haven't experienced any donuts yet but I am keeping my finger crossed.I like the way they look.

The low element count helps with that rich color. Why hasn’t nikon developed a 6 element Z S lens?

Hi Carmine - I'm subscribed ! I have the Nikkor 500 Reflex & use it on a D750. I'm pleased. But I do not have the filters. Some of those would be useless today - I think they relate to film days - orange etc. Do you think the UV filter is important or contributes to the performance? In any event I use mine without the UV filter as it didn't come to me with filters. Got a UV filter that fits? Dennis

I find the bokeh to be distracting and too busy in mirrored lenses most of the time. Some images are ok with it or it can be an interesting artistic choice. Very useful if you need the long focal length, though.

Yes, I agree that bokeh of this "donut" shape is not the same as a Nikon 135mm f2.8 (for example). But with the right subject and background, whether color or black and white, this mirror lens gives your photo something different, not your run of the mill blurry background..Peace from NYC

Tele Converter Compatibility is a serious and precision item. Only use the TC I mentioned. THE NIKON TC200...PS, the 500mm reflex actually doesn't need a Tele converter. It's incredibly powerful.
