I'm 64 and raced big block mods, sprint cars, midgets, karts, LOVED LOUD when I was a kid and then young man. NOW I have to wear hearing aids all day until I go to sleep. Flunked my bi-yearly CDL physical (hearing). Please do yourself a major favor and wear hearing protection. Hearing loss can gives a greater risk of dementia later in life. Just a word for the wise. I should have listened when I had the chance. Love your channel - you remind me of a young me LOL, NON stop tinkering.

Best advice ever. I'm 36 and starting to feel the effects. I was into competition car audio, racing, riding motorcycles (stupidly without protective gear so no helmet or ear plugs), sport quads and dirt bikes. Please, please anyone reading, protect yourself. I started protecting my hearing about 4 years ago and I think it's helping tremendously but to think how much better it would've been had I not been so dumb when I was younger. Hearing is one thing you never get back and the workarounds aren't the same as having your natural hearing. Can't take it for granted.

My mom never lets me ride unless I wear a helmet or have hearing headphones when I'm in the garage working. Thanks for the great advice

@@dakshbrar565 Yes, good advice all around. Be aware though that sometimes a helmet isn't enough. For instance, I have a Kawasaki Vulcan with an aftermarket exhaust and when I wear a certain fullface helmet, it's actually louder than without a helmet. It resonates in there. I have to use ear plugs along with the helmet.

Having owned a racing shifter kart before, I would not recommend building one without front brakes. Adding them now is highly recommended.

yea i’m currently racing a shifter kart with a cr80 with rear brakes only it’s not bad because i have two brake pads on the brake disc but i’d rather 2 in the front and 1 in the rear

Love it! I used to make all kinds of noise like this in my parents quiet neighborhood when I was a kid too! Many visits from the police for noise from loud engine powered contraptions. Great to see today’s teens still hot rodding something! Keep up the great work 👍🏻

It got so bad for me and my little brother with our backyard built karts and the cops in our neighborhood that if we would start our lawnmower Suffolk police car 108 would soon roll by, but the kids up the street who were a little different than us seemed to have no trouble with their daddy bought karts too bad them as#holes didn’t know what a governor was and we would always spank on them 💀

Did a YZ back in the late 80’s as a teenager ……… we had to fab up shade tree build it with YZ and CB 360 parts using a stick welder. Had a hand lever as a shifter on the left hip with clutch. Used the CB shift linkage. Welded the kart sprocket to the MX sprocket and the rest was history. It was wicked fast and dangerous …… the greatest of times. The kart originally had an alcohol engine, three piece wheels and disk brakes. Spun it off the road and hit a tree - bending the axle. Launched through the air like a rocket. Fun while it lasted

A stock banshee only makes around 35 HP. 250 all the way.

Dillon Bennett a 250 aint gunna make the torque a big 2 cyl will. Gunna need alot more low end for a crosskart build. I was thinking something more like a rotax 500+cc engine off a ski-doo. Those things make around 100hp and the 800cc makes over 140-150hp

Know Bull5hit yep, snowmobile engine on a jackshaft is the big win. I race outlaw karts against a few guys that run them, very good motors, even on gas and not alcohol like what we run. A banshee however does not fall in the “more cylinders is better” category though. It is useless unless thousands are spent on porting/stroking/boring/alcohol conversion.

Dillon Bennett what size engines are those guys running? Im working on putting a “tiny” 377 off a safari on a kart frame, should have the power to weight of a 400hp Vette.

Dillon Bennett yeah I agree with you for the most part, however a banshee with a 4mil crank and an aggressive Trail or dune port would rock pretty well. However Sno mo is the way to go.

I built one of these shifter carts in my early 80s fabrication days! Was On Yamaha frame with An Suzuki 370 RM motor! Hand Clutch just a straight rod shifter banger didn’t take long to go throu gears. Mine sounded exactly like this an was wicked fast! I just left the stock gears in case an put biggest sprocket could put on back wheel. Lol when I brought out on street the Neighbors all came out to watch. Cool as fk!

The limiting factor often is the steering system. Steering at high speed is a whole different ballgame from slower speeds. The better engineered and tuned your steering system is, the faster you'll be able to go before you find yourself in an out of control spin (wondering what happened). At least they don't normally roll because they're so low, so that's always a good thing. But you will always be the outlaw go kart when you come onto the road (just so you know). It's just another one of those things that makes me smile, falling somewhere under 'too much fun'. Cheers!

Back in yearly 70’s in shop class we built a cart with a 650 motorcycle engine on it , and we had it so we could use the gears . We took it to our local drag strip and raced it against cars and won many of them . We got a great mark for shop . At the end of school year we sold it and money went to school for shop class equipment…. Oh yeah it would fly

Good job mate, its a lot of fun to build your own little monster. About the water cooling, keep in mind the water travels the opposite way you think. Water pump sucks water from the bottom of the radiator and pushes it up out of the head. The temperature of the water helps raising it up so I wouldn't be worried about water circulation. Have fun!!
