When you have a crack like that, drill a hole at each end of the crack, if not, when you over weld you can leave a stress raiser and it will crack again. Only needs to be a very small diameter 👍
Hi , great to see your videos, when you weld that thick carbon steel flange on , use only 309 Tig wire, not 304 or 316 wire , 309 Tig wire is designed to weld stainless steel to carbon steel , plus it's good for heat cycles and strong. And other tacking the flange on , maybe heat it up with gas first, other wise it will steal the heat out of your welding. And if I was you I would weld up that 12 valve head and recut and other oring grove, and weld up the complete water jacket and then drill a line of 8mm or 10mm, trying to make it a little stronger . You need water flow, but you can move the new holes away from the o,ring, and closer to outer face of the head. This could be fix and back up and running again with little work , I don't believe going to bigger head studs will stop this happening again , the problem is the core design of the head , when things get hot , things usually will want to move. A lot of OE head bolts step down in the shank of the bolt for a few reasons, 1 is so the bolt doesn't touch the inside of the bolt hole, less heat , it won't grow. Plus a few other reasons. Stop and think about what happened here ,before you spend any more money. One other thing, usually it's the hotter exhaust valve side that goes first , as the intake valve is cooled by the incoming air . Any way guys take care.
Hey Blair the water jacket idea and welding up is something we are Definately working on and will talk about in future videos. We will Definately disscuss once we have the engine back from FFE racing so everyone can have a visual
Those RTDs are fast reading and it doesn’t matter that they aren’t all the same distance from the exhaust valves. I work with industrial instruments and electronics for a living. As long as you make sure the tip of the RTD is in the airstream and not pushed up to the opposite wall.
team..I'm a little late again...Stav...I thought you were going to advertise these nice slippers for the sea ... at one point I thought they had LEDs and they were bright 😎😂😉...but ... joke aside ... otherwise I'm glad you're here again.. greetings from distant Croatia 😉😎😀👍👌
Be careful welding the flange on, use the correct filler rod for the dissimilar metals - stainless/ carbon steel. Also controlling heat input and warping will be critical, the flange is very likely to bend like a banana so hopefully it is thick enough to machine flat afterwards.
So, I've seen a ton of head lifting on/around cylinder 1. Hasn't someone built some sort of external system to hold that weak-side of the head down better?
Not that I’ve seen. Most people are hush / hush about their set ups. But we are showing you every step of the way this problem will get rectified. But not sure how realistic 50+ psi is on the street daily lol
I just spent the last few days binge watched Stav’s build and it has been absolutely amazing. It’s inspired me to start looking at B5s again (my favourite Audi platform) and at VR6 turbo setups. All your videos from this series have so much great information and tips and tricks. I do appreciate you guys showing everyone when something goes wrong and your solutions around problems. On a side note, how is iabed progress on the engine mounts. Is this something they will be producing in the future or are they still gathering information from your R&D. Also what’s the song in the outro, it’s a great beat? Keep up the good work boys ✌🏻
George...... Disregard my statement the other week on the RS3 manifold post, Im just now seeing this about staggering the EGT! Keep up the fun work and effort boys.
What do you consider high IAT's? Under normal driving barely touching boost I can see upward of 110-115°, during a quick pull I can hit 140, and I can't stress quick enough! I can't remember where I pull timing at but I think it's 130
Honestly when testing the car in winter time doing back to back pulls the numbers were closely approaching 130’s. So not awful for California winters of 70 degree days. But the goal is always to improve. So if we can fit a larger core on their will Definately help and make more power
@@MalakaMotorSports so mine isn't all that bad bad then. Obviously any time there is timing being pulled by the ECU it's bad but 130-140 IAT isn't terrible. Thanks!
@@MalakaMotorSports so me and some friends was arguing in a group as to how much power it made b4 the motor blow...did you think it reach anywhere near a 1000hp ?
People please, u know you’re gonna get what you clicked for so just get in the habit of hitting the like button when you start the video because if I don’t, I forget to do it afterwards
Yo Stavy Wonder, love the rides and the tech is heading towards next level. Bro, it's legal now, you don't have to wear sunglasses 😎 at night. 😉. Give us that credibility. That big helmet shit is Chris fix territory. I can't watch the dudes channel, it's too much.
