51 year OLD MAN begins third year of medical school! 

I’m 50, this is my first year of medical school!!

I’m 38 and going back to take my science classes needed to enter medical school. I put my life on hold for 20 years for my son, my parents and care for myself. I do not regret it because the experiences will definitely play a huge part in me becoming a great physician. I know it takes hard work but I will not look back and say I wish anymore.❤️🥰 Thank you for these videos.

I graduated from medical school at 50. I am an IMG. Took time off to work. Started residency at 53 and now completing my Obstetrics fellowship. I did everything late and I exercise and feel like I am 20, no grey hair, brain is sharp. I have 5 children and sacrificed a lot and missed out. My wife and kids did not live with me throughout my medical journey and I was lonely, I owe several ks in loans but no regrets. Soon I will be an Attending. I want to be an inspiration and for me age is just a number.

I just completed my Masters Degree last year at the age of 56. All my family has passed on but I know they were looking down on me from Heaven as I walked across that stage❤️ It’s encouraging to read so many comments of others taking huge steps later in life in their careers.

I just turned 35 years old (a black female) I’m a child of neglect and abuse and I’m entering my second year and seeing a man of color making videos like this got me tearing up because my first bully was my father. I don’t see many black men in my state or around me wanting to work in medicine or go to medical school. “Shit not even in my co-hort” I love that RU-vid has opened up another world for people like me because I never knew any of these career fields were an option. I was only told we can be CNA’s , MA’s home health aids etc. so, I wanna thank you for your content and I love how you talk about your kids! I love seeing non traditional students post videos. I will be 42 in a couple months and I’m a 3rd year medical student. It’s not easy being away from family but at the end of the day, it will all be worth it.

I started medical school at the age of 44 this year. I am about to finish my first semester, and my final test scores are higher than most of the traditional students. I might face economic challenges in the coming one or two semesters, which may force me to quit, but it has been a great experience so far.

Best wishes for your rotations. I was 38 when I started med school(KCU ‘94). Get those presentations down, practice as much as possible (like practicing a sermon). Present patients to your dog, cat, goldfish, whatever. Record yourself presenting then critique yourself. Good presentations on rotations and later during residency will get you further than you know. Good job on working on maintaining your health. Med student or not we are aging and it takes more effort than for your younger classmates. I’m looking forward to following your progress.

Great thing about working in medicine is you don't have to retire at 60. I know so many doctors that continue working well into their 70's. Its such a great career.

Awesome!!! I'm a non-trad as well but in pharmacy school. I am also much, much older than my peers. So, that first year, I was drowning in information - more than the majority of my cohorts, imo. Fortunately, I already have a background in nursing which helped tremendously with many medications. I'm here by the grace of God and will finish with His help. I pray for all my fellow non-trads as they embark/complete their journey...may God be with us all!

I am 34 years old. I have been a touring and studio musician/producer/mixer since I was 16 years old. Toured all over and worked with a ton of cool artists and musicians and played some legendary shows and made some music along the way. I also have a bachelors in business and got a degree in music as well. I run two small businesses at the moment. I always felt like something was missing, I wanted to help people and use my brain and technical skills in any way that I could. Always loved the idea of medicine/surgery and after recently losing my dad, decided to change careers and pursue becoming a physician. Your story and journey is inspiring and uplifting to hear. There are many great medical RU-vidrs, but they are all very young and already very established in their careers, so it is nice to hear from someone with a different path! Your wisdom and knowledge definitely shine through in your story. I can tell you will make a fantastic physician soon! I am enrolled in a biomedical post bacc program finishing up my science prerequisites, plan on applying to med school in 2026. I’m 34 but I worked in a university hospital for about 5 years. And at the time I was like 26-30 years old and some of the residents were about my age. And I realized that if I had started at 18-20 I could have been in medical school too! I realized how fast time goes! And looking at things from my 18/20 year old self, 30 felt so far away but it goes by so quickly! Now, I don’t want to go to medical school 😂😂 but I just came to that realization that if we just complain about and think “oh that’s so far away” then we’ll never accomplish anything lol. I’m actually going back to school for nursing and something I heard another nurse say was “in 4 years you could be 38 and not a nurse or in 4 years you could be 38 and a nurse”. And I think that line can apply to anything. Best of luck on your journeys to becoming MDs 👍👍

This video is actually just what I needed today, and RU-vid sent me this out of nowhere after having a bad discussion with some residents online, im currently in my first year of fellowship of my specialty, and I want to switch specialties, starting from all co workers and even my program director I only received discouraging advices and they told me to give up etc, im 28 and I really wanna make this happen and match into another residency program of a completely different specialty, I was gonna give up but after seeing this video popping up on my feed here on YT I’m not gonna give up. And I also say that to everyone who wants to do something people think it’s too late now.
