I really like the simplicity of the process and the fact we can use the same key as the front door in a padlock for the garage door.
This Kwikset Smart Key re-key kit makes it so easy I believe anyone can do it no matter how handy you are around the house.
Just remember to insert keys all the way every time so the system can learn the keys properly.

That is so cool. Makes it so much easier to change out keys and have them all keyed alike as well as make contractor keys or concierge..lol Give some to the cleaning company too ...

Great demo Big Al! Very handy if your crazy ex girlfriend has a key to your place 😂

great kit for someone moving in to a new place. They can void the previous owners key, and get a contractor set, and holding on to that, they can also use it for pet sitters while on a holiday.

Ya I just thought it was really cool. And the front door and padlock on garage having same key would be handy.

I worked for the "hardware store" you got that from for over 30 yrs. Love working hardware, selling tools, nut & bolts, but most of all selling locks and rekeying them for cust. I sold a few of those kits over the years but if the cust. still had their reset pin I'd just give them some left over keys (from past rekeys) to use.

I can understand. I think I would like that job too. I have always been fascinated with machine shops also. But I would probably spend too much time making stuff for myself. 🤓

That system is really cool and i was fascinated by it quite a bit, when i heard about it. Not too easy to pick 👍 It seems to be not too reliable though from what i have heard !? Many failures over time from what it seems 🤔 also brute force seems to be an option unfortunately !?

From my understanding this is a perfect description.

Yes, spot on based on what I know this far. Very convenient but the pin design makes them weak. Very weak.

You are spot on far as I know. But I love the idea of it. If it was to be improved on they would have something really fantastic IMO. Like I mentioned, when I seen the kit, I simply had to grab it.

I didn't know they made a padlock version like that. I wonder, how much easier or difficult are those types of locks to pick compared to a standard Kwikset? Thanks for the video Al!

I have tried to pick the padlock several times with NOTHING. I cant get any pins to bind. Also tried using the Lishi with no luck.

I have a question if you loos your keys can you still use this or not
@AlbertLebel
@AlbertLebel Год назад
The correct key must first be inserted for this to work.

I can imagine if you own property that you rent out it would be handy especially if you have a large turnover of tenants,

The upside is that they are quite challenging to pick, requiring a thin shim to compress the sidebar on the current ones. The downside is that they are *really* easy to get into by force with a steel key blank and a pair of pliers.
@AlbertLebel
@AlbertLebel Год назад
Yes, I was aware of the brute force attack due to the pin design but I didn’t know about that shim trick. I can’t even pick one yet. The Lishi won’t work on its own either. Thank you. I will try that.
@SilktheAbsent1
@SilktheAbsent1 Год назад
@@AlbertLebel it's not a traditional shim, most of us use a broken 0.015" pick with a bend in it. Put it in at the left side and apply it has to slip between the plug housing and along the sidebar. I've only been able to get mine picked once, but there are videos on how to get it done with instructions on positioning.

I have an older Smartkey padlock. Any tricks like that for the older ones?

@@SilktheAbsent1 thank you 🙏. I had no clue. I will definitely play around with it. You rock 🤘😎🤘

@@DAdamTrammell How old? Gen 3, which has the squared off sidebar that needs the external shim and no tension tool until you are ready to turn the core at the end, has been around since 2017.
