Hi Mikkel. Indeed 'ears opening'! Buying commercial glazes can safe a lot of the work and time. With regards the wiring, I wired for the need to trim foot, but I'm thinking if I can make a aluminum flat sheet that can glide cross the base without taking off clay. As for the mixing of clay, I suppose porcelain and stoneware clay fired at a high temperature? Really fascinated to see your moon shape vase as a successful example. If you have plan to throw red/black s/w clay with porcelain, would love to watch that! :-) Lastly, thank you for such interesting lesson.

Thanks a lot :-) Yes, the stoneware/porcelain mix was fired to high temp. Lately I have been doing some combination of white and colored porcelain - which also have some challenges, as the clay change a lot when coloring it. You can see some examples on my Instagram: instagram.com/mikkeldemib/

I read somewhere that you cannot glaze a pot in a pitfire. Its a myth. I just glazed the inside of a small, bisque fired, stoneware bottle with a transparent glaze that matures at 980-1,020ºC. Its now a waterproof, pitfired bottle that I can use to display a single rose. Awesome.

There are many myths in pottery 👍

I solved the chuck problem stopping carving foot rings. What a waste of time, and 'if' a customer ever complains; well I guess they'll find plenty of potters who do. :-) I trim pots on the batt and then let them dry enough to pop off on their own. Finish work is scrubby or sand paper.

Thats an option too :-)

I solved the problem of the footrings for tall vases with thin neck,by slipcasting the wase with the foot ring.The footring its made out of the mold,but there is a catch. If one half of the piece dryes faster then it will bend the pot. Especially with the high shrinking clay i use.

I like to avoid the foot ring also, easier to finish, easy to fire on a cookie, and in the dishwasher there is no water collecting on the foot!

Hi Mekkil, What type of Mink oil do you use. I am trying to buy some in New Zealand?

I used one I got from a local leather supply store. I am sure there are many others that will work the same

How do you spell the name of the potter Christian Boom? The person who makes the large pots you show in this video?

Have you ever made your own clay from the ground? And try and fire it? In different ways? I heard that because of the impurities in the earthen clay will make it melt in a kiln. So perhaps with sacrificing a little tray to ketch the glass from a test pice.

No, I never made my own clay and I don't expect to do so :-) Also, that clay would most often be an eathenware type of clay that require a different fire schedule than what I use
@LouiseShawJewelleryByronBay
Have you tried the glaze after yet ? :)

I did but I do not like those results. I have seen better results than what I did but still not really what I like the most
