Good work Harry and for a good cause. 15 years ago I had an Africa twin, I rode from Austria to Syria, then I had a Vstrom and rode Greece, Albania.... then my life changed, got sick for 10 years amost died, thought of suicide many.... now Iam better and this year I bought a new 1000 Vstrom, I hope to attack the Alps, just glad I can again live and enjoy ridding.

There was a Puch 49cc 2 speed Moped on display at the Cologne motorcycle show in the early 60's that had been ridden atw. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Ducati scrambler, although my '97 monster 750 still puts a huge grin on my 72 yo face. Congratulations Harry, you are an inspiration to all who love motorcycles.

I'm not familiar with the Scrambler but I owned a '91 851 Superbike and the Desmo valve train required inspection and adjustment for clearances way too frequently. It wasn't cheap nor was it easy to do. The question I have is how many times did he have to inspect and set the valve lash and did he do that himself? Love Ducatis but I'd never own another one because of the Desmo valve train.

@alwynmcmath

@blazeoconnor9899
@blazeoconnor9899 5 лет назад
One of the reasons many people complain about ducati motorcycles is because of their electronics, not to mention the waiting period for getting the replacement part. If they malfunction it usually makes the motorcycle unable to move. Their bigger displacement engines overheat a lot and could damage other components on the motorcycle. The scrambler is a more basic motorcycle, less to go wrong with it and easy to maintain. It may not be as exciting to look or to ride as a monster, v4, multistrata, or diavel but the scrambler would be my choice to do that tough journey. Anyway that is my point of view. I love seeing motorcycles that have been tested to the max on every possible way. I'm glad the ducati scrambler made it. Can't wait to go and test ride one myself.

@@blazeoconnor9899 Legio XXI Rapax Clutch plates on my scambler had to be replaced after 400mi- work didn't get done until 1,400mi because the dealer kept dismissing it to me as "break in period", sure, they just didn't want to risk some kind of lemon law situation with a bike coming back so fast. Up to 4,200mi on it now and no problems since, hope it continues like this. Off topic but besides the bike overall being enjoyable the suspension are a MAJOR downfall, so bad the bike will not always behave how you are telling it to. w/o adjustable front forks you'll be looking at the full Ohlins upgrade- up to you if you think its worth it..

1990 I don’t know your bike but buell parts are very hard to find world wide and if you cannot fix the bike it’s practically no good. Ducati parts available everywhere nowadays. @user-sw2lv3zp6o 5 лет назад
@@YA-ee9zf: I very much doubt you can get Ducati parts everywhere, although I know you would have to wrench your own bike if it were a Buell, but you could set it up first: new wheel bearing, headrace bearing, swingarm bearing. Plus you would need to head off the well known Ulysses problems with a few modifications (all done on mine bar one, the oil pump drive gear update). There is no way a Desert Sled accelerates anywhere near as fast as a Ulysses up to 185 kph, but more importantly, the Buell has far more low-down torque, and it's hardly any heavier. I can't see myself going anywhere further than the length of Europe, mind.

@GarryMcGovern
@GarryMcGovern 5 лет назад
I think you're missing the point. He's saying you DON'T need to do it on a GS, you can do it on anything. Not everyone has £14-£15k+ to blow on a GS, whereas a Desert Sled is about 5 grand less. And considering his age as well - he's probably saving a grand or two in insurance also. With it being far easier on fuel and tyres too, the savings he's made on a Desert Sled over a GS has probably massively paid towards the entire trip! Too many people will make excuses NOT to do it - citing the need for something like a GS to do it on: he's taken that excuse away. And considering also that probably 90% of GS's will never see mud in their entire lifetime - he's also making a very valid point in regards to constantly seeing them being used as commuter bikes (a massively inappropriate commuter bike also, if you ask me!). Yes, a GS is a fantastic bike - I did a 7 day tour of the Sahara on one about 5/6 years ago: but the fact he was able to do it all (and more!) on just a Ducati Scrambler definitely gives food for thought on what is really necessary to complete a trip of a lifetime. Incidentally, on my Sahara trip I chose the 1200, but having ridden the 800 since, as well as both size Triumph Tigers, I found the 800 is far, FAR better suited for the job (especially the Tiger 800 - fantastic bike!), but like so many 1200/1250GS owners - my ego wouldn't let me book the 800 at the time..... I've learned my lesson since! ;)

Not anti-GS at all just not for me - trying to show there are other capable options. Like I said in the video as long as you're riding a bike that you love, who cares! And if thats a GS then its doing its job! :)

I edited my previous comment as I missed an important word out. That was the word "boring!" I didn't miss his point, I think you have missed the tone of what he was saying. He opened the GS conversation with the word "peeved". In my world this is polite for "pissed off". So he is annoyed or frustrated by the whole GS thing apparently. Why would he be peeved or even care? I don't know anyone who thinks the GS is the best and only bike for a RTW adventure. Does it matter if someone commutes on a GS? The biking community is small as it is. Why alienate segments of it? Just because someone rides a 1200 GS rather than another bike doesn't mean they have an ego. Maybe it means they like that bike! Bikes are cool. Whether you're 5 or 55, ride a big or small bike, for a commute or RTW trip, your a biker in my book.

C Morgs not pissed off by GS as a bike or GS riders I’m constantly annoyed by people telling me I should have done it on a GS. Actually It’s mainly people that don’t own a GS that tell me that.

Really cool but I'm also sensing some Ducati sponsorship shilling e.g. talking about how all parts are from Ducati catalog, stressing that even though custom seat cover, the foam is still from the "ducati catalog super comfort option". And it's Ducati ducati ducati oh btw suicide awareness in last 5 seconds of video. And the criticisms of the BMW GS made up a big part of the video than the suicide awareness. How convenient, Ducaties biggest threat and competitor in the market, with a superior product in every possible way which this kid SHOULD have chosen.

I wouldn't have liked to do it on my GS, and that was a lighter 1100. They are too heavy.

Seriously mate, if you come to Australia and ride a GS, you will see lots of boring highway and dirt roads, and miss all the good bits that are harder to get to. It is probably the same in most countries of the world outside Europe.

@@MotoGuzziMoto But I am down here mate :-) And I've ridden all type of horses on most continents. Basically there are only 2 bikes, light and heavy! And this Ducati is heavy, full stop. So why not make the trip regal and allow yourself a treat?? :-)
