We've discussed two types of 555 timer modes: Astable and Monostable. In this episode we'll see the 555 timer in another form called Bistable Mode.

141 likes .. ridiculous - this is far far better explained than many vids that get 1000's likes . The world needs to know about Skinny !!!!!

Easiest mode to understand! Thanks!

I agree! This should be the first lesson on how the 555 timer works. The astable mode is more exciting, but it’s REALLY hard to follow the internal 555 workings.

If you have time, I have a quick question for you. What is the difference between ground and negative power in a DC circuit? I know that ground is 0V, but when you plugged one of the wires into ground, it looked like you plugged it into a empty socket. Is that true, or am I mistaken?

Nice video.. I have some questions, if you have the time to help me. I have gotten myself confused. And need help seeing my way out again!! Ha-ha... I am tinkering with the idea of building a spotwelder. I need to be able to push a button. Turn on a mosfet for an adjustable amount of time, from about 1/10 second, to about half second. Also maybe have a pwm signal that is turned on for that time. A low frequency DC pulse. About 5 Hz. To 30-40Hz. So when triggered for a short time I get something like 2,3 maybe 4 quick pulses. I'd like to be able to adjust the pulses. Like in pairs of pulses. And adjust duty cycle from 5% to 30-40% can you help me with this. I have lost all my scribbled out schematics. I'm thinking a pair of 555's could do it. I want to use a few high current N channel FETs, capable of pulsing 1000 amps est... Total,, Or a steady 50 amps each. I'm pulsing about 20 volts DC. Or between 6 & 20 v I will either use a dc to dc buck boost, to stabilize the power for the drive circuits. Or power from a alternative source. To keep them working normal. So are you up to helping a self taught tinkerer??? I know a arduino could take care of it all. But I'm not self taught that much!! Just a quick pow, pow or maybe a pow,pow, pow, is all I need triggering the FETs... If you could help it would be awesome... Thanks

That sounds like some pretty high powered stuff and I would not want to tell you wrong. The functionality you describe though reminds me of using the 555 timer in monostable made. In monostable mode you can trigger the timer and it will output a pulses for a specific amount of time. This time is controlled by the timing resistor and capacitor. You could put either the resistor or the capacitor on a switch to select the timing you want. Check out this video to see how the 555 timer operates in monostable mode. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-057q6v7uwwU.html

dear friend, if the 555 supplied 9v Vcc then at pin number 3 what would be the voltage? 5volts or 9volts?
@Skinnyrd
@Skinnyrd 5 лет назад
The voltage level is never 9V at the output if 9V is used at Vcc. There is always a voltage drop and that drop is dependent upon how much current is supplied from pin 3. Under certain conditions that drop could be anywhere from 1.7V to 2.5V. With a supplied voltage of 9V, the output would probably be about 8.3V when the output is sourcing.

@@Skinnyrd i was thinking to use it as a 5v voltage regulator.

Interesting. Might not make a good regulator but would suffice as an on and off switch.
