598 - Going through a 20-YEAR-OLD Pokemon Notebook from 2002!!! 

Just a quick little nostalgia trip I filmed when I went home this past weekend! Sorry for the super quiet audio - I was recording this long after everyone else in the house went to bed haha

A few weeks ago I was looking through my best friends diary with her from when she was 8. It has some pretty good gems in it. My favorite being a biblical rant about how much she hated her mum and her life because she wouldn't let her eat any Mike and Ikes, it was a 2 page rant in all caps and the very next page was a drawing of Shadow the Hedgehog. The mind of a child is truly something special

This channel never fails to remind me how important Pokemon is to me. It also makes me wish I saved all of my "incredible" pokemon drawings from my childhood!

As someone who was born in 1995 and was roughly the same age as you during the Pokémon craze, this video was so nostalgic! I had my own art books with crazy drawings as well and this brings me back so much. Thank you Matt for always helping bring back so many amazing memories and reminding me just how special Pokémon is to me and how it’s been with me as such an important fixture throughout a majority of my life!

I’m honestly amazed that like, even tho you still had the “small child with limited motor skills” line control, nearly all the Pokémon 100% read as what they’re intended to! You clearly had (and have) a great ability to translate your mental image directly onto the page :3

The drawing with you on the Gameboy with Shuckle and Ho-Oh is by far my favorite, what a nice little drawing. Perhaps one of the more talented folks in the community can do their own rendition one day

I love having little nostalgia trips for Pokémon, like it's literally been apart of my life not just my childhood. It's the games I return to when things are rough and I need a break from everything. This was quite the enjoyable ride along.

Love the Golden Sun references in there! When I tell people Golden Sun is in my top 5 games all time, people seem to have either never played it, or have super fond memories of playing it. Such a great series!

It's honestly so cool seeing this as it's *so relatable and nostalgic*. Even I had sketchbooks growing up that ended up entirely full of Pokemon stuff. This really makes me want to go through them again since it's been like 15 or so years

Man, I LOVE going back and looking through old Pokemon art! I'm sure it's served as a large foundation for how tons of us design creatures and characters, me definitely included. Half of my weird freaky bozos started out as Fakemon!

This reminds me of when I was around 11 years old, I wanted to draw every single pokemon. At the time there were only 493 pokemon and I think I got all the way to gen 4 as I remember trying to draw an infernape from the infernape lv X card I had. I ended up giving up as it made for this huge stack of paper that I did not know what to do with. I might have to try to do it again but this time digitally so I don’t have to worry about all the paper I’ll be using 😅

This comment probably isn't as lighthearted as the video intends, but I can honestly tell you that watching this simple video did wonders for helping me reconcile some of my childhood. I loved doing stuff like this as a kid, but due to a number of factors, including childhood bullying, I grew up hating who I was and particularly how I acted as a kid. Even though what I was doing was completely natural and every kid did it, even to this day at 27 years old, I still have a hard time accepting my likes/hobbies and otherwise as a kid and early teen. Something as simple, wholesome and nostalgic going through an old Pokemon notebook is helping me bring back the good parts of my childhood in a way that I didn't expect. So really, thank you for the video, I didn't expect it to hit me this way, but I'm glad it did.

I knew a lot of the Gen 2 Pokémon by their Japanese names thanks to Beckett Pokémon Collector as well! I can’t remember exactly which issue it was but there weren’t too many before the games released

Hi absol, I just now realized how truly amazing professional shiny hunters are, as I just continued a hunt from about a year ago on a new save in let’s go pikachu on nidoran male, and had one run away after 350 caught this save, and many more seen but not encountered, I now have so much more appreciation for shiny hunting, as before, it did seem kind of trivial, as most of my hunts have only take 3 hours max.

This was such a neat video! I wish I'd have kept all my old drawings and things from the old days. Lots of notebooks just like these, entire boxes full of index cards made into fake Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards, the whole works lol. The only old artsy stuff I still have are notebooks full of Pokemon drawings from ~2011, when I was 14 and Black and White were right around the corner. Less hilarious than the stuff from when I was even younger, but it's neat to flip through them and see how far my art has come. Also, Good lord I was not ready to get punched in the face with nostalgia by that Rugrats Go Wild scratch n' sniff.

Reminds me of my own childhood Pokémon drawings. :) I wish more of that had been able to be salvaged though, had a horrible home situation and everything ended up being all moldy. In any case, the nostalgia is real!

This rushes me back to memories of drawing pokemon with friends in elementary. Best memory was probably when they called my dad into the school because I drew a Charizard on my test and didn't do the work in 1st or 2nd grade.

I can relate to this video so much, when I was in 1st grade I got to choose one free book from the book fair and I chose a johto handbook and thought the year until I was in 7th grade, i kept drawing all of the pokemon in it and i could see my progress of drawing getting better over the years. Unfortunately i think i threw away the journals but those were nice memories.

God this sort of thing takes me back to when I would draw out Pokemon battles how they were in the games and just scribble maniacally over the page to emulate the attacks. Also reminds me of when my friend and I would draw fakemon back in the day, we even used a whiteboard in his room to plan out the regional dex as we were planning to actually make a Pokemon game (this was before either of us knew about Romhacking), still got the drawings somewhere. Can't remember most of them but I remember being really proud of the grass starters based on Wood Sprites. Bracken > Greevil > Arborfiend, Grass/Dark, would totally redesign them nowadays and give them a more tiki mask/Leshen theme. We also had an Electric/Steel wind turbine Pokemon called "Rotom" as it was "Motor" backwards... Then Gen 4 came out. Also Golden Sun

I used to draw primeape alot. Nothing will ever compare to pokemania back then. I mowed lawns for weeks so I could go see the 2nd movie in the cinemas. Sweet drawings matt. I have nothing pokemon related from back then. Gave all of my thousands of cards away when I hit 13 because it wasn't cool to like pokemon anymore.

I remember being obsessed with eevee when I was younger, and I remember not having an eevee figure and drawing my own on a scrap piece of paper, it’s long gone now but other than that I never really drew Pokémon, although all my old notebooks are filled with warrior cats ocs and weird drawings, me and my sibling always have a good laugh looking at them

i still have my OG copy of pokemon soul silver. i have since lost the poke walker but have the game, the box, even the inserts are all still intact that was a solid game.

Ha! I have a notebook similar to this. I was in 1st grade around the time of mid gen 3. Ex unseen forces was the current set of cards and my notebook featured many Johto Pokémon as a result.
