+mid lane banter Man, that shit tilts me so hard. Your support rocks up and starts shoving the wave and I'm just sitting there like.. '"Can you not see I'm freezing right now?"
I used to be good at ADC. It was my main role and I used to tick "Good" in every single one of these. But then my main, Miss Fortune got reworked into something I didn't like anymore. Caitlyn, a hard counter to my second main Twitch suddenly became FotM. And my third choice Kalista had all her items nerfed. My 4th choice? Lucian who's permanban so I don't get to play him at all. Now whenever I go to play ADC anymore I'm ticking mostly "Average" with a few "Good" but also a few "Bad". This video made me sad.
No matter what role you play one tip everyone can use: Show confidence in your abilities Even if you only have 100 health look at the fight and ask yourself. What can I do to continue contributing to the fight? If you're playing lee that might be sitting behind a while waiting to execute someone with your Q when they get low enough so your team can clean of a second kill more safely. It might be skirting the edge of a fight to bait the enemy into chasing you instead of your team. Always look for a way to help, because you might fail if you do, but you'll always fail if you don't.
I'm an adc main and I am looking to improve. I am a good adc in some parts, average in others, and bad in one. Thanks for helping me understand what I need to practice to get better.
Hey Phy, I have some trouble with itemization. For Vayne, I know there are a bunch of optimal builds, but i'm not sure what to go when. Usually, i'll go PD>IE>BT, and usually pick up a qss/GA depending on their team. Any suggestions on when to go maybe rush BOTRK? I understand that I'll want to switch up statkikk for my PD, if we need some wave clear, or BOTRK for BT if there are tanks, but when do you go RFC? Whats the benefit of RFC over PD? Also, is it worth picking up IE as a second item? Ive seen some people don't even bother for the IE as second item, and get it as a third item. I would really appreciate a reply, this would improve my gameplay drastically! Love the videos, keep up the good work, I learn a lot :)
Nice vid rly helped me alot with some things,as an adc main i ve found myslef both in good and bads thing and will work on fixing the bad ones in the future,ty!
My sweet summer child, you have not seen a bad adc. With the recent addition of flex Q I've had the displesure of running into an ashe who took the healer keystone and started with boots 0 pots, then rushed boots of swiftness. She last hit maybe around 20% of the minions and that's being generous. she died repeatedly and made me wonder if you have to be lvl 30 to que for flex Q. I am 100% sure she was not trolling and when I asked about her keystone she said it was to boost her summoner heal.
GOOD JOB! ok, so first of all, most "help you get better at league" videos are just not very informative. It leaves you wanting more or just trying to figure out what exactly the youtuber was trying to tell you. THIS VIDEO ACTUALLY HELPS ME GET BETTER AT LEAGUE. This is the EXACT type of video I want all the time. Even if it is a series of vids that is champion specific showing bad, average, and good adcs with the gameplay footage to break it down. VERY VERY good job and I appreciate your hard work.
+Phylol almost all assassins can shutdown adcs if they did decent in lane espically if ur support doesn't have protective or cc abilities the way i see it, but don't u think adcs need some decent defensive item like an armor version of maw that gives armor shield instead of magic shield when procd? i just dont see steraks gage that good even i find frozen mallet more convintent.
+alex alexsander problem is, that's would be built against the adc as well, an ad/armor item would simply be too overloaded. Imagine as adc, with this item, Xin will one shot your ass anyways but this time he won't die for it. I don't think it'd make the situation better, because everyone would build it then. also, you have Steraks Gage now.
Another problem with trying to make defensive options for ADCs is balancing. Any champion can build the items, so if you give too much stats with a fancy passive or active effect that results in good ADC damage building + protection, you'll have bruisers/tanks outscaling using those same items... it's kinda tough to find the fine line there for balance.
@phy I've got a question about itemisation. If you take Jhin for example i always go ie first then an attack speed item [rapid, shic or pd] then reaver, then defense items etc. This is pretty much my core, but lets say if you are behind and they have a fed rengar and lb, would you then buy sterak's even before you have finished your core (although you are probably fucked if this were the case)?
Hi Phylol - I wanted to ask a couple questions. I'm a Silver ADC main, with about 2k games TOTAL played (normal and ranked). This season I've been losing a lot of games from losing lane. Now, I'm not perfect, I'm not DoubleLift or Deft, but when I have someone who tries, I have beaten Gold and Plat ADC mains in lane. I've been getting people doing stuff like Orianna, Yasuo, Master Yi, Talon support. These people often don't try at all, or use me as bait to try to get fed instead of helping. I have only seen this a single time on the other team this season, but I don't have any way to deal with it, other than getting super frustrated, and I've had as many as 4 in a row, usually resulting in their bot lane getting fed from us, or just completely denying CS. Do you have any tips on what to do? I've tried playing champs like Caitlyn and just trying to hide and farm, but turret diving is so easy when you are missing a lot of CS and getting poked under turret that it doesn't help much. My second question stems from your video clips you use. In almost every one, the entire team is positioning to stay together, near you and bodyblock/peel for you. In Silver, it's bouncy castle central and there's no structure to the team fights. I'm forced to completely fend for myself, even in games where I get super fed, I routinely die completely behind my team to an assassin or tank from the other team. In a lot of cases, it's 2 abilities and I'm dead, often not even an Ult. Do you have any recommendations?
During the before teamfighting stage, being aware of important enemy cooldowns/abilities and how to play around these, who the priority targets are in order and whether or not your flash is up, are all crucial things to take in as well, instead of just trying to poke.
Phy it would be really nice to see you make a video on proper use of QSS, I think it's something alot of players have issues with and alot of my friends who aren't very good at ADC refuse to buy it for lack of being able to make use of it at all because either they forget to use it or don't know when to use it. Maybe a video on actives in general?
Thanks for the video! This'll help me out a lot whenever I play ADC, I was Diamond last season but ADC has always been my worst role, so thanks for helping me improve with this!
So, for being a good ADC, I have to be aggressive and AA the enemy under all costs whenever I'm not lasthitting? There are matchups where you simply cannot afford to do this.
The idea behind this is that you hit them, if you can, while you are farming. There are more things about laning, trading and making the best out of a situation than it got mentioned in this video. In a bad matchup your goal is to survive and go out of laning phase with the smallest deficit as possible.
iv have been playing league for a little while now and ive been trying to play adc lately. This video has definitely been an eye opener for me and i hope to put a lot of what you said in the video into practice soon. Thank you
I've just watched this video for the third time and only now have I realised that I have no idea about lane control at all. Your videos keep helping me improve - are you planning on making an in-depth video about lane control in the future? It'd be great!
PERSONAL REQUEST: Could you make a video based on how to learn about better positions. ? when and why or why not.. everyone know it's bad for an adc to be in the frontline, but how do you train you skills to better /faster find the best position.. for example, I had a game where our teamfight was about to start, I had a decent range( Jhin) so i was not concerned with not being able to hit anything. And the enemy had a good diver team, and our tank haven't been thinking about protecting me in any cases before. Therefore i placed myself behind my team, with a tower at my back. But as the teamfight begins to start my team move further down middle lane, even knowing that the enemy is a lot stronger in group fights. I'm left with a choice, follow my team of stay behind and try to defend alone vs 4+ ( i was fed, so it could maybe be done). I´m having a hard time choosing, knowing that my team suddenly are going to die, but can't reason with them, nor do i have the time. and when the fight starts, i stand way too far from the tower, still around " 1 lucian Q" behind my team. And the enemy Rengar(very fed). Is Sneaking around my team, short after he is jumping me, and hence i´m now history, leaving the rest of the team fight as foretold. Now after a few rethinks i think it would had been better for me to position closer/or directly in the middle of my team, so they hopefully would help me. But even that would not had been enough, Rengar would probably still nuke me faster than my team could react.. So what should i have done, where should i stand.. and most important, how do i improve my positions?? when /where /how/ and why? would be something i really like to get answer about.
BITCH, I CAN BE WHOEVER THE FUCK I WANT TO BE. You're not gay, but it isn't your decision to decide for others. I like to classify my sexuality as "worst adc ever." Learn what that word actually means before you go throw it around loosely and trigger more people.
please do one of these for supports too. there's not enough information out there on how to play support properly eg. vision control, lane pressure, roaming, playing around your champ's utility(engage vs peeling) etc.
I fall in the bad/average category when it comes to items :/ i play mostly draven atm and i saw your draven commentary (really enjoyed it). But i still got some questions about itemization. Ive started allways going the ghostblade route with bt after--> last whisper. After that im usually confused if it gets that far and ill buy the cannon--> PD. Pd as semi defencive hah. Do you have some tips on what i can do to mix it up in some games? I mean qss instead of bt agains malza or something i can understand but anything else? What do you reccomend for the last two items?^^
+Isgris LoLGaming If you're confident in your draven skills the best build path is Youmuu into Qss and Scimitar right after with situational after those 2 ; Dominik/Mortal reminder if they have a lot of armor or tanks, Infinity for raw dmg, Blood thirster for more survivability and dmg, PD for splitpushing and/or dueling, Statikk for wave clear ( not really adviced, only if your team doesn't have any waveclear ), Maw against heavy magic dmg and burst or Sterak if you have a really hard time surviving the fights. It all depends on what you need. The youmuu scimitar combo is for outplay potencial and it packs a heavy punch ensuring you can't be locked down during your AS steroid from youmuu.
I only have problem with positionning actually. Sometimes with the pushing and Lanning phase depending on the match-up. This was really helpful. Thank you and great video.
I am bad in a lot of aspects since im switching roles from jungle to a lane but this video shows me what i have to work on and how to get better. Thank you
I main twitch so I get runans horicane first right. The I almost finish my attack speed boots but before I get a F.B sword then I finish my boots and then ifinity edge. That is what I build standar the I change my items every game is this good or average?
You addressed laning, but one huge thing you missed is "map awareness" past the laning phase... a bad adc will be off farming waves without being aware of what's going on and will get himself killed because of an over-extension or because he's off by himself or he'll try to engage an enemy team in a flank and they'll spot him out and wreck him... an average adc won't over-extend, but also doesn't apply enough lane pressure at opportune times... a good adc will almost never get caught in an over-extension or baited by enemy assassins into the minion wave, and he'll be able to predict a team fight will happen and will be there when it does (essentially, he'll rarely die needlessly). Another thing you missed is objective control... a bad adc will cling to an objective regardless of the circumstances around him (and won't apply his much needed damage to team fights).. an average adc will only attack an objective when it is safe and will travel with safe companions, one with CC... a good adc has good prioritization and will know when to push and when to back off.
Great video! Quick question though. When you try to aa trade...shouldn't you pay attention to the support. Even if the ad cannot trade back the support may as well do right?
Well I can relate, I manage to improve my play, and went from S5 to S1 in with only 4 matches lost. This is a good tip if you manage to follow all his indications. Thanks for this
about the builds which I'm really bad at should I buy magic Resist item whenever I'm facing a mage? or just AD and AS (note: I'm actually good at building but bad at making decisions)
Hey, Phy. What's your opinion on Graves as an ADC? I've mained him since season 3. He was always rough to use since his range, but since his rework, it has been even harder since I can't trade as efficiently in lane due to his new auto attack system. He was decent when he was meta, but now he just gets bullied. Any thoughts ?
These were SOOO on point ty man I actually learned a few things that i thought was wrong so ima avergae-good because when I'm tired or bored I end up loosing focus for example: not really paying attention in teamfight as much as i should or not paying attention to enemy builds so I'm trying my best now to see If I can make a difference thx dude ^^you and your bro always help haha
The last part for me was important I thought that last whisper doesn't do much and wouldn't buy it against an infinity edge. Thank you, your videos are really good and give people a chance to be better at league
Hello again Phylol, my main was top, but recently i started practicing all roles. So I noticed that when it commes to ADC, in some of these things i'm good, in some average, and bad in the other. Mostly I play Cait, and she is quite fun to practice with. My question is which ADC champion do you suggest I should play in order to learn the role?
+Phylol taking on your last point, itemisation, if you have an item halfway through, do you always finish it or maybe priorize something like a qss or something that you need more, even when it can cost you more time to get it?
if you need a qss super badly then get it. for example when I play draven I don't finish yoummu first then get qss. I get qss during my yoummu build so like after buying dirk I get qss if I really really need it
Hello Phylol, im a main Adc (plat 1), from what you explained i'm good everywhere except for team fight and itemisation. But i never know what to do in teamfight, i try to catch the potential target by staying out of range of the frontline and usually m'y team tell me 'vayne frontline op'... so i mean.. what do you think, should i stay behind and only hit frontline and hope m'y frontline dont die before ? and for the items i will think of it more now thanks you :) good video
@phy what do you think of doublelift's builds today in the clg vs tsm finals? I personally thought he lacked defensive items and went for way more offensive cocky options and that ended up backfiring
Hey Phy! Loved the vid, one thing to ask though, could you do a similar video to this but for players, Like Good/Average/Bad Player overall? Thanks if you do!
I'm a diamond 5 main adc and i found this guide really helpful! I found a couple of mistakes that i do in some games and it's really helping me out! Before start a game in soloq i'll always watch this video! Really great job👍🏻
Phy, how do you deal with a team that feeds? From the video I see that I'm a good/average ADC and I tend to get fed and do actions to help myself and the team. Despite all this my teammates begin to feed and I eventually lose many games in a row. Any tips? I main Vayne & Ezreal.
What is the main difference, you think, between Death's Dance and Bloodthirster? I see Death's Dance as a clearly better item, but when I'm behind, I feel like I should buy BT. Is this a correct assumption? What about starting first item, does that need to change every game or 10/15 minutes? Do Zeal items count? I find that Hurricane is better on Ashe, Twitch, and Varus, so do I need to mix it up if something changes? Thanks for this video, I'll definitely try to use some of these techniques in my future games! By the way, would you happen to know where one might find tips on freezing? I seem to not be able to hold a freeze for long (whether that be me missing CS or my support trying to push or something), so how can I learn how to maintain a freeze?
Most AD have a 2 item core. Infinity edge and a zeal item or Youmus and black cleaver. Those 2 items almost never change except if you get Essence reaver instead of IE. Items after that are what should change IF needed. If they have a ton of armor your next item should be lw. Or if it's a full Ap team get a qss or maw if it's Ap assassins. Changing items always depends on the enemy
question - So let's say I'm playing vayne and core items I'd say for me would be phantom dancer and ie. ( more damage then bork start IMO) sooo let's say there's a 5/0 ahri be4 10 minutes should I change my second item to maw instead of ie just cuz she's fed?
Hey Phy can you please make a video on how to deal with bad supports? There is NOTHING i hate more than sitting in lane with a leona who uses a spell once every 4 minutes or just runs if you are being engaged on or goes in to pop a spell and then turns back and runs as soon as you engage.
What about making a video about these "off meta" adc like: Vayne/caitlyn/varus/mf/tris/jinx/draven. By off meta i mean adc that wasn't seen in your "best adc in patch xxx" video, or is not really seeing much play. I would really like to hear your word on what their problems are, and what keeps them from a top spot.
doesn't it depend on the suport too? i had some examples where freezing was ridiculously obvious, but my suport morgana just spammed her w on the creepwave, even though i pinged her down and explained her: don't touch the minions, i want the wave to push us. She didn't listen, she did whatever she wanted, sometimes she ramboed the enemy and died, i was too far away to retaliate, etc. It's about what i do, or about that know exactly what should be done, but i can't because of these?
What about Tristana? If the enemy ad carry is low enough to where i know i can kill them and get my reset to jump out (while my team is there) Is it still a bad idea to jump past the tanks to the enemy ad carry? I do stay aware of where i would be positioned if i did.
Really good video, especially the parts of teamfighting and itemisation, which are the ones I need to improve. Gotta check the one about jungle by Foxdrop, so that I can finally get into jungling for good!
When you say the item prediction, do you mean AFTER your core items? (let's say you're behind so you don't exactly have your core. Do you still buy core then itemise or do you itemise then core?)
If your going to be worthless just building core items, then it is worth it to build something else. For example if you are behind and your team is teamfighting early, but you are getting blown up by the leblanc then it may be worth it to not finish ie and go for a hexdrinker instead.
Hi phylol, i always had a big question while playing in the game as an adc, i know you have mentioned it in this video, but still it is not enough for me, so i jus wanted to say, could you make a video about adc items, what to buy and when to buy them, it would be very helpfull, ty so much phy for your amazing vids, you made much better adc.
I liked the video. I really liked the breakdown, but maybe show clips/examples of a good adc vs average vs bad for each category. make it apparent, a bad ADC does this, here is an example *clip starts* (even if a custom game.) maybe you did show the differences and I couldn't tell.
So..seems like im a good adc but average at itemization..should i buy other thing first on vayne but botrk in most matchups? After botrk i build depending on enemy team.
Usually if the enemy team doesnt have much damage , or a bit of damage and i can sustain it i go for Botrk > Boots > RFC > IE > Ar. Pen. Item > Item depending on the late game. Also i will try the build you said too :3.
Can you explain please that thing about trading. As a adc that trying to get better you should always try to get advantage even when you playing for ex. kog and still waiting for guinsoo, even against something agressive like graves/bard lane? I can imagine outrading graves if don't get stunned, but it's kinda hard.
