There is a huge lack of Titus 2 women...older, more experienced women teaching the younger women. I believe that's a big part of the problem. Thank you Titus 2 women for this!
.. And I wonder why that is... I have thoughts on it, but I don't have the words right now to express them. Maybe the older women of these days feel like they didn't get it right with their own and so don't have that confidence.. Maybe the younger women take offense... Maybe the older women don't know how to approach.. When my children were very small, I suggested that it would be nice if all of us women, young and old, (at our very small church) could have an evening once a month to meet together where we share our troubles, challenges etc. and let the older women give their thoughts advice etc. or even just prayers. But it never happened. Everyone is busy and we all lived a good distance away from each other.
Well, I just read a response farther down that said something like, .. mind your own children, don't listen to some RU-vid channel telling you how to raise your kids .... So yeah...
Yes! I feel like I’m adrift in the wilderness sometimes! What a gift mothers of past generations had before mothers were “liberated” to leave the home. Now we girls grew up effectively without mothers, and our grandmothers, even if they were taught the skills of motherhood, grew up in an era where motherhood was maligned. So we are figuring it out all on our own.
@crazychicken4063 I've been told that unasked for advice is unasked for advice. My experience with younger moms is that if they want your advice they ask for it. The thing is, sometimes they know what to ask because they think what they are experiencing is normal and that there is no other option.
I appreciate this wisdom for many reasons, one being that I need reminders and reinforcement for myself. It has also encouraged me to evaluate, repent, and keep going. Hope is not lost, and I trust that the Lord can not only discipline me, but also lead me in disciplining my son.

Praise Yah for the time and effort you ladies took to come together to share this message with other parents. I’m a young mom with young children and this has been very humbling and encouraging for me. Looking forward to discipling my children in the way they should go as detailed in the scriptures and being more aware going forward of the worldly tendencies of parenting I have already slipped into even as a believer.
As a Muslim mother, this resonates with me so much. I love the emphasis on teaching children that obedience to parents is important because it pleases God. I will definitely try and incorporate these lessons as a parent as I found your advice was so similar to my religion as well which in essence is living to please Allah.
@amaanat. Their are many similarities within Islam and Christianity in regards to parenting. Many Muslims just like many parents of other faiths fall guilty to their culture and customs rather than their religious beliefs.
I LOVE that you guys pointed out that not having a clear show of authority and consistent boundaries isn’t fair to your children. I totally agree that we let them loose when they are young and then come down with rules and strict boundaries when they are old enough to be gaining freedoms and preparing to be adults.
I listened to this while making breakfast this morning, and it moved my heart to a desire for discipline for MYSELF! wow, what a blessing. I have a tiny baby who isnt ready for discipline (yet 😂), but I want my heart to be ready when that time comes. It is never too late to change our habits even as adults! This applies to our parenting as well, we may be in the habit of responding a certain way to our children, however it is never too late to change that if we feel the inspiration and desire to do so. I have 3 children 6,3,and almost 1. We are I. The thick of it and definitely fall into correcting behavior instead of getting to the heart because there are so many needs having to be met it’s overwhelming to stop and have those heart to hearts. I always wonder how the father can play a part in this training. I know mothers are home more but how do we include the father in the training? They might undo all the work we are doing with the children by not being on the same page. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

Are Mrs. Hubbard’s material appropriate for teens? Also, what would a parent do for older teens if they had been making many of these parenting mistakes already for years? What can a parent do to try and change and correct their own mistakes in parenting them up to that point? Is it even possible for a parent of older teens to still be able to instill good habits and good discipline into them after years of bad habits and poor discipline, and if so, do you have suggestions on where to start or how to go about making those positive changes? Thank you- I did need to hear this today, and it really made me take a good, hard look at how I’ve been parenting for all these years!

While this could be an option, it does not need to be a "threat." It can absolutely be utilized as a consequence however it can still be a result due to a child's decision. If cutting back on the toys is something that your family feels may be beneficial, you can discuss the importance of taking care of what we have...of being good stewards of our blessings. Discuss the idea that if things aren't taken care of, they will need to be gotten rid of due to being broken, etc. Discuss the possibility of having too many items for the particular child to take care of and the need to donate some if the child is not able to take care of his belongings. Then, if the child intentionally does not take care of his belongings, work with him to cut back on the amount of toys. So often it is easy to approach the child in a state of exasperation for them doing something again and again. By discussing the need to be good stewards and calmly discussing what the needs will be should he not be a good steward, you are providing him with the opportunity to make the decision to be that good steward or not. He is then accepting the responsibility/consequence of donating/discarding a few belongings to help him have fewer resources to be responsible for.

Agreed! The “experts” advice against spanking, but I think too often people use the word discipline when what they really mean is spanking. I suspect that that may be what happened in this particular case, but I’m glad that didn’t seem to be the case for the entire video. I appreciated that they did acknowledge the umbrella that encompasses true discipline.
What about autistic kids? I really wish you would address this or some Christian mother somewhere would. I feel alone on an island and my child is in secular therapy that strongly condemns spanking or physical discipline. I just don’t know what to do anymore

This was a great podcast, but I would like to respectfully disagree with number 6 “Don’t reason with small children”. What you’re describing isn’t actually reasoning, it’s bribery and manipulation when the first strategy to “render” obedience didn’t work (which you correctly point out as a poor strategy early in the podcast). True reasoning is concerned with helping a child [person] logically step through choices and consequences in order to understand what the best choice/outcome is and WHY. And this doesn’t have an age limit; even my 3 three year old is capable of [age-appropriate] reasoning, and walking her through the reasoning behind something and connecting that to the consequences of various choices is building strong reasoning and decision making into her that will help her later (as we’ve seen with our older child who at 6 can make very logical choices and explain to me why something is/isn’t a good idea). Being willing to reason with a child is actually respecting their personhood (as Charlotte Mason advocates). This does Not preclude obedience-in our house we have a mantra “obey first, then ask questions”-because obedience IS super important for all the reasons mentioned. AND kids really do need to understand the step-by-step logic behind what we’re asking them to do (there are often reasons that we don’t articulate because they seem so obvious to us), so that someday They will be able to make those choices-and I think the earlier we start that kind of thinking and processing, the better! Bonus: when they really understand why they need to do something, they’re totally bought in and more likely to replicate that behavior in the future, because it’s not arbitrary for them-it’s a heuristic they can understand and apply to other situations! (At any age!)
Be encouraged! It is never too late to change your habits even as an adult, pick one thing at a time, start small and give yourself and your family lots of grace! Charlotte Mason did not believe that we needed to be an expert in any area in order to help our children and to teach our children. We need to be willing and identify those resources that will help equip us to teach our children! Change is hard but developing good habits in your children and in yourself are so worth it! If you are seeking guidance in your personal walk with the Lord, get in touch with your local pastor who can help you with resources in your area and with your specific situation and diving deeper into that relationship with God.
