I have the truck... not the 70k truck. But the truck that is old enough to drink Beer or White Claw... I haul a brake and 32 foot ladders etc... I do more repairs than anything.. Keep up the Good Work.

Hey Dimitri, I love your stuff. I just started my roofing business three months ago and it’s been good so far currently doing a $25,000 job where my profit margin is at 50% so things are going good may take a lot of your advice is from roofing insights. But I got to see Matt for the truck I’m very eager to get a big diesel truck I currently have a 2012 Ford transit that I will be keeping but I do want to get a diesel truck so I can buy a dumpster because I spend a lot of money renting out dumpsters on each job and they overcharge on the tonnage last house I did 26 squares I paid $850 And if I had my own dumpster I would’ve paid right around $275 at the dump yard so by doing for five houses a month and not renting out dumpsters I basically pay for a truck in spades but my Ford transit will still be my service car in my estimating vehicle As a matter fact I’m gonna wrap this van as soon as I get funds to do so but most importantly I’m trying to get on Google so I can get Google reviews I’ve only been doing yelp but then again here in Washington state it’s a very good platform hopefully I get to see you when you come out here on the 26th of this month I’ll try to make it I’d love to meet you and I’ll ask some questions and pick your brain a little Lol

I have a couple friends from high schools who started a contracting business a few years ago. They went out and bought a nice, new, really big and expensive truck right away. Within a year, they declared bankruptcy.

Not in business without subs??? Odd statement. You know why roofing companies use subs. To not pay wcb and to be on someone else's workmanship warranty. They don't wear a rope they get fined. They fuxk up the job they fix it. If I hire storm group to do my roof and some other guys business comes and does it I'm gonna be pissed.

I think most any big compnay you hire to a do a roof is gonna get a you a sub contractor doing the work. It's johnny meth head and his 3 buddies that actually show up to do the roof they sold you. What you're paying for with storm group is they are licensed bonded and insured. Anything happens on that roof and storm group is covered for that therefore you are as well. Also you see his vehicles advertise Owens corning products. They are most likely a preferred installer for them. Which would make getting a positive outcome on a warranty claim much more likely.

I got rid of my big truck because I believe in just about everything Dmitry says. I now drive a Dodge grand Caravan and guess what!… I save about $700 a month. And actually it’s easier to work out of my minivan than my truck ever was.

I mean no need to have an exaggerated truck like that. But a truck is actually needed to haul dump trailers, it depends how you run your business.
@sackclothandashes1342

The big truck issue, I agree with to an extent. Lifted trucks are stupid amd makes you look like you charge astronomically to be able to afford it. But you are not towing a dump trailer with a Jetta. Lifted trucks are not work trucks either. If you have to get on a ladder to get your tools out you are more concerned with looking cool then you are about being efficient. However, driving a truck is necessary the more hands-on you are, just do so practically. Also where you live. People in San Francisco might respect the guy driving a smart car as to where the common perception of a contractor is that they drive a pickup truck. So some might be suspect of you roll up in your Corolla.

Dmitry i have a question for you i have a customer who gives me the final payment for his roof and he hands me a check and says i held 500$ beacause the dumpster damaged my driveway... #1 he signed a contract that says we are not liable #2 his driveway is 40 years old and was falling apart #3 the dumpster did not do anything to his driveway my dumpster company even wrote him a letter saying so. How would you handle this?
@austinjohnathan4073
@austinjohnathan4073 4 года назад
Unless have you evidence that says otherwise. Keep him happy and eat the $500.00
@RoofingInsights3.0
@RoofingInsights3.0 4 года назад
It’s as easy as the proof of it. Does he has pictures showing damage that looks like it could be from dumpster? If yes, maybe he is right. If no: be firm and make sure to send him invoice for $500. If he doesn’t pay take him to small claims. Cost you under $100 and add it to the bill. Judges love reasonable people and always go against unreasonable. What will he bring to court? Pictures of damaged driveway? If it’s not damaged, it’s not damaged, so looks like you have documentation and evidence to bring to court to defend yourself. 1. Your contract 2. Dumpster company statement. I think you have it covered. Send him nice email stating those two and ask for pictures of damage in writing. Also state intention to file in small claim. What he reply that’s what he probably will bring to court so be prepared. How did the job go overall? How big of the project was it?

@@RoofingInsights3.0 thank you for the reply i have pictures of driveway before dumpster was dropped too it was only a 12yd!! overall job went great 22 sq 2 layer tear off & replace which we had done the same day normally eating 500 would of course suck but this job i did for a family price beacause it was my grandmothers neighbor and he needed it done BAD which is another reason i was caught of guard by him doing that. He was also supposed to call me to look at the "said damage" friday or sunday and i havent herd from him since so small claims seems to be the only way
