Enjoyed this video because it is focused on women weight lifting for hunting with a bow. I think it speaks to the need for having two bows :) One for hunting weight and one for shooting a ton of arrows.....at least for me. I want to have a hundred plus arrow afternoon and not be tired at the end of it so I can do it again the next day because I just love to shoot. Archery aside we all should be lifting weights for longevity; it is what will keep us doing everything we love to the end of our lives.

I'm 16 now I bought my first bow with fairly new technology 3 years ago. Before that I was shooting a bow from the 70's or 80's, anyway I went from shooting 50 pounds to 60 pounds from May to August. Then after that year's archery season which ends in the end of September, I moved to 70 pounds. Now I'm shooting 78 pounds with ease and could go higher. But my older sister who is pretty strong can only shoot 40 pounds. Great video! I liked how you dived into what muscles where being used.

For a compound bow: I tried weights but pulling an actual bow got me further, faster - with a 45# recurve. I pull over and over until muscle failure - multiple times per day. Works for me.

decades ago , i began use dynamic tension exercise to build muscles , for helping you to ull a bow , a tool called the bow worker is a great way to start . also , getting you some different type of latex/rubber tension bands are a great tool also , with weight ,you go up and let down , if you did more resistance training like going slower when pulling on weight , holding several seconds like you do when drawing a bow back , then letting down super super slower . i have to admit , you will hurt for a couple or more days after this training , but its way more effective then doing today's hustle and bustle workouts people do today ! you can stay in shape just using your own body , arm against arm exercises but bow worker and especially resistance bands works best for bow pulling muscles !!! dynamic tension exercises started me out in my workout beginning !...i been shooting for decades ,started at 5 yrs old , so i started developing my bow muscles early in life . one of my special exercises , is holding full draw as long as i can sometimes and finally ,learning to slowly let bow down without shooting it !!! .... the resistance bands which are 4 to 6 inches wide work well also , this is what physical therapists use and give their patients ! ..... get you a wrist rocket sling shot also , they are other great tools to learn , hunt and exercise with !!!

Most people are not going to do any exercises to pull more poundage. I’ll give everybody some advice lower poundage will help make you more accurate.most people shoot way to much poundage which gives them target panic. Any body who wants to help cure target panic . Turn your bow down as low as you can and keep shooting it for a couple months and you will be amazed how good you activate your release, how good your form feels ,and how accurate you are . Doing this will build your muscles that you did not feel as when you shot to much poundage.and keep adding poundage a little bit at a time tell you find the poundage your comfortable with. And only shoot 1 arrow at the target,go pull arrow shoot it again and so on and so on you get the idea.

also i feel ,more reps ,less weight on dumbbell exercises may be better beneficial to some if you must and should train your biceps , now to get a lot stronger , and bigger biceps , less reps and way more heavier weights would be the way to go , but i feel , that this way doesnt properly activate all the other muscles needed for lasting , not so exhausting , longer lasting muscle out put and performance . !!! when i said slowly up ,slowly down , i meant ,counting 1 mississippi ,2 mississippi etc. to 10 going up and letting down . might have to start off counting to 3 or 5 mississippi at first and build up to it ! i also believe in core building and strengthening , its what keeps your top half of your body upright which is very important when especially doing long 3d shoots or just standing target shooting . i love crunches ,sit ups and planks mostly ,but now that im getting older , lazier , less sculpted lol , i use electricity to do my core exercises while i watch movies or surf on the web lol .!!! the right hertzs and frequencies and power really work out your muscles , its like doing 1000's of exercises in 30 to 60 minutes just chilling !!!! pulling a bow is not like doing a normal curl with weights , the accuracy comes from holding at full draw , concentrating on your target , holding your bow just right without torquing it , and executing the shoot without jumping the gun lol , carefully letting it go !!!!!! so yeah , i really feel and think , ligaments, tendons , not just muscle fibers are all important to train to work in unison with each other and together ! thats why the slowly hold and release and resistance training type exercises are the best way to become more proficient at target and hunting with a bow !!! AGAIN I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH , its what works for me , and i must admit , i am pretty good with the bow , if only i do say so myself LMAO !!!! i started commenting before watching this video all the way , i am glad to see you two knew all this stuff also !!!! you two were really great today !!!! i hope she realizes , she had the privilege of being on my favorite archery channel LOL , i really enjoyed the video !!!!

i hate to kind of disagree , the biceps should be involved unless you are drawing your bow back with your thumb pointing up , to me ,its not the proper way to draw a powerful compound bow , sorry , its just my opinion ! when drawing compounds ,my thumb is pointing down the back of my hand is touching my cheek ,to me i barely feel my triceps and deltoids , a little shoulder and most in my back , traps etc. !!! shooting a powerful compound with palm facing your cheek and thumb up is what can cause some pain in most people , it is ok for shooting traditional lower poundage bows but not higher poundage compound bows i feel , remember , this is my take and opinion , i suggest practice and learn whats best for you . i also practice drawing and shooting with no hold sometimes , shooting lying down ,sitting , etc. but to me , my favorite is seeing how long i can hold at full draw , i think , it activates the lesser used stabilizer muscles ! get you a TENS unit for when your muscles hurt and a muscle stimulator " EMS" and exercise electrical units ! these are great tools for building and keeping muscles from going into muscle atrophy !!! hope this helps you are someone else , remember a mind is a terrible thing to waste lol !!! i enjoyed the video gals ,good talk and info !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

I got the information from a research study on muscles involved during the draw cycle of a bow. Peak activation was highest on the biceps on the draw arm. I think you are completely correct in saying biceps are not everything. The better technique you have with the pull, the more you can recruit the lats and other muscles, and less bicep you have to use, and the more weight you can pull. However, with my technique as it is, I feel the bicep unable to overcome the hump on a poundage I can’t pull, whereas my lats are fully engaged. But that’s me…in the event I’m wrong…I train everything and I would love for there to be more research…. :) let’s just say there is no argument that a stronger human pulls a stronger bow :)

@@tracywittmeier Tracy you are such a Dear for replying back ! . i guess , an educated guess , in all reality we could be in agreement ! . everyone has developed muscles differently i totally agree with you . it's like i always tell people and make them understand , men and women from 100's and 1000's years ago were probably a hell of a lot stronger than the majority we have today , especially today LOL . think about kids staying in the house playing video games , watching tv etc. . the only exercise most kids get is a hour of physical education they are practically forced to participate in at school LOL !!! their muscles wont develop to full potential without the running ,exploring ,many hours of bike riding , the list goes on and on , that we before the age of in house only activities have come to develop . take me for example , @ 5 yrs old , i started shooting a bow and done it many hours just about everyday . i also throughout the yrs because i am a rightie , would shoot and practice lefthand , so what helped me , i started developing specific muscles that people with no archery experience have , or lets say more developed anyways lol . look at someone who uses their arms to pull the bow horizontally with holding arm straight out and only using their pulling arm to draw back , wow right ? . the risk to injury is inevitable right ? .. now take the archer that points his bow upwards , the 2 hands , one on bow , one on string are very close , as they go from up to across , you push bow forward and draw with other hand in perfect rhythm together coming at hold fully drawn and ready to shoot , this is where you feel tendons, ligaments etc. and slow and fast twitching muscles work together . i was very attentive to listening to you explain the scientific study and understand how this could affect someone not properly trained in archery . i have a tip for You , when you do dumbbell curls , start off regular way palms up , as you come up , start turning dumbbell so your palm is facing down when you come to full extension , when you let it down , slowly twist the opposite way letting down dumbell and palm is facing up when in down position ! i love this way of doing curls , it will build muscles in a different way also . i use to use resistance training with weight years back , together , i must say , that is an totally new experience lol ! i really enjoyed your guest appearance on the video , take care !

Tracy, you have a great draw, but to pull more weight easily and more efficiently, start by leaning forward slightly at the beginning of your draw, then leaning back into your anchor, you could be drawing more weight easily. I’d argue this adjustment would be more beneficial to your draw than any exercise. Using your body weight is key, it’s not just about muscle. Try to do this with minimal movement, although that sounds contradictory. Not to sound like a know it all but I can pull 90lbs easily, and am not a strong guy. Extend the elbow a bit more, lean forward, then sit back into anchor. That’s how Cameron Hanes and those dudes pulling 95# all draw bows.

@@BowDisciples no prob! Think of it like a cheat row with a cable machine. In the gym we use strict form to develop muscle, but how much more weight can we pull when we cheat a little and throw our weight into that rep? History has many stories of people pulling 150 # bows. This was all technique, and a huge part of that technique is weight transfer from front to back foot. This is essential in keeping healthy shoulders long term.
