Back to thumb draw, my favorite, started watching old videos of armins about thumb draw last night. Need more of this

I checked it out, as soon as i saw your Video. Place : Austria/20.5° Bow: Gozer Nomad L2 #42 28" Arrow: Gold Tip Traditional 500, Length 32", GPI 8.6 Drawlength (till ear) 31" ------------------- Smoother release and solid Bow-chatra. Significant tighter 3-shot-groups at 18 m (all around 8 cm Groups) Even for my anchor at 31 " the sliding thumbrelease works better then the L-release. Herzlichen Dank

Interesting technique, I'll try it for long range shooting like 50-70m because right now I struggle to stabilize my release at these distances

Absolutely incredible coincidence! I tried this about 5 days ago when I read some article focussing on the thumb/middlefinger lock (more or less ignoring the index finger support) and it felt like a revelation. The arrows come out noticeably "cleaner" and felt way more precise. I am definetly looking forward to more videos of this !

That is great Input. Not sure whether i am doing it right, but thumb is now much straighter and therewith less under tension. Produces less pain and tighter groups.

🤯 Great technique! I've been shooting with a shallow hook thumbring for a while. Always using the Kyudo style release of turning until 'it shoots'. But this 'sliding thumb' technique seems to result in even less string oscillation.

In the book of Arabic Archery, they say to move you your thumb first. Your thumb is what opens the release not the index finger, your thumb pushes the index finger just like what you are doing here. And on some of your shots after the sliding release your hand was still over your shoulder in a crescent moon shape especially on the 53 pound bow you were using. This means there was a clean follow through (according to Arabic archery military manual) After doing this for awhile now (and while doing this speed shooting) I think This maybe have been the way of doing it. It does all that is described in the old books. (Even with accuracy) It’s super accurate, efficient and you can do it fast, this definitely is the faster way of releasing, while still being accurate. I know this to be true 1,000 percent. The other way doesn’t really work while shooting super fast. When I’m shooting multiple arrows quickly this is the only way to shoot and be accurate and still be able to load fast. And now after watching this video and learning even more, I’m going to be using the added teachings u put in this video to become even more accurate. I thank you big time for this sir. You taught me a lot in this video. (Especially concerning the draw elbow and this video, showed me a lot concerning the release, I’m going to be stealing this teaching 😆 j.k) but in all honesty I need to do a video on this asap. I cannot thank you enough sir.

I have been doing something similar that I thought of as kind of a shallow hook in order to have a cleaner release. Not the same, I was not thinking about moving the thumb forward... I will have to pay attention more and try your technique to see what is what... Thanks again!

after couple rounds i think this does help with the release even with heavy bows. before this video, my method is i draw to my anchor, and when release i gentlely "open" my thumb, its mostly crisp but sometimes when i'm tired my thumb will be drag foreward. now with this sliding release, i still draw to my anchor first and then i do the slide, its less shock and cleaner but yes need some practice. holy, its so helpful, Armin thank you for this.

Great video, I really love when you make these. I have been struggling with a clear thumb release forever. Granted, I train alone (at least, since I have not been in Malta ;)), but I have been practicing for four or so years and still cannot get there. I recently moved on to Slavic, mostly because I like to keep trying out new things, but I found that release much easier (at least, after you figure out that the arrow is going way to the right from where it would go with thumb release). My Mediterranean draw is also still smoother than my thumb, though I have not really practiced that one in years. Somehow, thumb release has not clicked in my brain yet, though I love it as a technique. Will try out this new method, thank you Armin!

Thanks for the technique. Better accuracy and tighter groups with only a little practice. Works really well for me with lighter bow, feels a little insecure with 45lbs, I’ll have to practice it more

That's going to be difficult with war weight bows.

i solved the fishtail inducing string vibration by moving my pointer finger to the other side of the string. i believe that i learned that from you. thanks

I have short fingers, and this is the way I have always used this type of draw, I didn't realize I was doing something different thanks for showing this kind of a release, works great for me. at 20 yards I use 6 targets to keep from robin hooding my arrows, I shoot bamboo arrows.

Definitely gonna try this as soon as my thumb is less sore lol.

Thumb on middle finger didn't work for me, but I do agree with creeping back just past full draw.its night and day🎯🎯🎯❤🇺🇸

I know you’ve talked about the shooting glove you use but seeing it more in use, I’m very interested in purchasing one. Where can I find that “model”?

Now I understand why the string is hitting me again on my arm...

I'm sitting here fiddling with my fingers. This technique seems very natural with the second finger lock. But it seems a bit awkward with the first finger lock. If that is the case in practice, it would explain why this technique is not in wide use. It may be perfect for your release style but that is a minority style. Have to try it!

Armin, it looks when you use the ring it would be different from the glove--kind of a 2-stage release. As you straighten your thumb and slide it alongside the finger, the ring is still briefly hooked under the second finger (kind of like the way a Korean male ring is used). So the thumb would be out of the way first, then the ring releases an instant later. Am I seeing that right? What a fun technique to play with!

i am having so much trouble. i dont know if its the arrows, or my release, or the bow is too heavy. the arrows fly all crooked even at 2 3 feet distance, and i cant hit anything. 😭 not to mention the string slaps me and the fletchings scratch me from time to time. 😥

Hello Armin, each time I have tried to hold the arrow end, my arrow will keep moving over to the left side, so what I Happy doing now is putting the arrow between my fingers and pulling back on the string, is that still OK doing it that way?

Thanks Armin, what u teach there almost give me any enlightenmeng on how did Imam Abu Hasyim perform his technique because i see u hold a bot that string with index finger...that imam when he lock during pull the bow phase, his index finger crossing the string.

That's exactly how I release and yes I expired how painful it is when the string touches my finger. I try to tilt my hand and my thumb more than but I'm searching for a glove like this. Because it feels unnatural than. Where it is to buy?
