Yea and that works just fine but the kettle is not that big so you have to keep refilling it over and over to get a decent amount of water so it takes more time than using a trangia storm kitchen set up for example but yes one can melt snow in the X kettle.
Hi just checking, how the kettle holding up till now? Do you think we can replace the plastic handle with the aluminium wires, possibly put silicone straws outside the wires for heat insulation :))
The kettle developed a pinhole leak eventually. I got another identical kettle and have since then used the plate that comes with the firebox that keeps most of the flames from the sides and this has prevented any further melting. So if you are careful can use the kettle on an open flame just fine as long as the flames do not touch the sides or handles directly. Have not had a need to replace the handles but they melt much easier than the silicone sides for sure spa wire would be an option I bet.
Last trip I noticed a small hole in the wall, no catastrophic failure but still a hole. So it held up to open flame for about 1.5 years. Have a new firebox that has a ring to protect the pot better so less flame around the edges so will see if this increase the longevity.
