365 days I crewed on sailboats from San Diego, USA all the way down to Panama, stopping in Mexico and Costa Rica. After Panama crossing the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand stopping at islands like the Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia, Tonga and Fiji
45 days I traveled through New Zealand from the Northernmost point to the Southernmost point, then
100 days I traveled by motorbike through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, then
365 days I traveled in my self-built campervan from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, then
365 days I traveled with this van through Iran and Pakistan, then
180 days I built an off-grid log cabin in the woods in Spain, then
180 days I restored an old sailboat in Guatemala, then
180 days I traveled with this sailboat from Guatemala to Honduras, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and the Dominican Republic

I really enjoyed watching you do this project from the very beginning. What an ambitious and smart young man you are. I am 73, my husband passed away 11 months ago. He and I built a 3000 square foot log cabin together with some of our children from 8 to 17. Six of them worked with us. It was an amazing experience. I am amazed at you abilities. It was a heartbreaking news for him. I don't know the following events. I just know he had to stop building it and went back to Albania for a while.

You can use untreated would as long as it's not touching the ground. Who knows, he may treat it later. As for the helper, they clearly do not count because they are a woman. As for the title? It's more like build my structure in a slightly tree's area that is slightly secluded with running water and electricity

If you ever decide to do this again, put your roof on before your walls. Then your building materials & your tools do not need to be covered since you have shelter over head. Foundation, Wall supports & roofing supports, then your roof. Hours of bottle watching! Could have shortened that part. Your build is inspirational! The foundation, watching you dig, dig, did I say dig that was some hard labor!

It sure is pretty. I’ll give it that. A RU-vid expert will try to sound smart by making mean comments, this isn’t that. As a old carpenter it makes me extremely nervous to see there is no sheer strength to the lower structure. It’s a good tradition to include triangles in the framing. It is ancient engineering/physics that is still used in every single modern structure today. If any readers are planning to follow the dream of making your own home, please learn the elements of structural engineering. Learning from the ancients is not failing to be independent. If you build a good design when you are young, it will still be there to enjoy it when you are older. More free advice: put some kind of barrier between concrete and wood. Simply putting tar on the wood that touches the stone and concrete would have added 30 years to the life of the walls and windows. Concrete is porous, it is almost the same as putting wood in the dirt, it will rot completely in 10-15 years. Rot resistant species or poison treated lumber is a little bit of an exception, but they also have a limited life-span. But hey, free advice is worth every penny. Do what ever you want.

smart man, great comment! Whats the point of building a home structure if its not going to last a lifetime? I thought the same thing as I watched this. Hes a good worker, but missed a few key elements into making sure his home is built to last. Then again, who knows maybe its all for a youtube vid. I'm serious, ppl do all kinds stuff for a vid.

Very industrious build. He did apply boiled linseed oil to all the wood, if he put enough on and let it soak in properly before doing the mortar work it will help preserve the wood a while longer, 10 to 15 years maybe. Buy yeah seeing some plastic between the wood and mortar would have been great. The house is a work of art though, no denying that!!

Also when it rains and the wood gets wet or shrinks later because of the heat and sun, there will be cracks between every piece of wood and the mortar. So he does not have to open the windows when wanting fresh air inside his home, it will ventilate automatically. But at least he does something instead of watching netflix or YT like I do at the moment.

the foundation is actually very weak, it looks like a fence, not like foundation and in this form it won't be a stable, solid and reliable foundation. It is shocking to see people could think this is good for a house foundation. Let's hope the house won't see much challenge from nature :)

Just to add off from my last point. Daughter and husband live out in the woods, in the middle of no where . They harvested their own wood and cut it, made their own mortar. Used allot of pallets on the inside.Hooked up their own water system and sewage. Needless to say I'm very proud of them. They have turned it into a viable farm.

@@ShawnJonesHellion his proof is his experience with a bad back i suppose. And as someone with a bad back too, i can second his claim. I have no problems with my stamina or strength to lift something, but because of my back problem just the foundation alone would get me bedridden for weeks. Maybe the guy in the video has other problems, but his back is definitely not one of them, or maybe it is just the start considering he did so much heavy work alone. Lol

Парень в конце кустов насажал - сомневаюсь, что приживутся. Корневая система уж слишком усечённая. Ещё и почва каменистая... Почти три часа смотрели, а конечного результата так и не дождались))

I think that is why it is taking so long... after he cut all the logs he thinks he is making Art and not a house... It is a special technique to build this way... but he lost his way at some point... he should be laying 1 row on every wall each day to let the mortar cure... he is laying 1 row on a small section every day... what does he do with the rest of his day? Maybe he has a job.

My daughter and husband built a core wood home all by hand. It's off grid and ran 95% of the time off solar. When they go threw a cloudy week sometimes they have to use a generator!
